The 2009-10 Academic Year marks the 9th year of aca-demic excellence for Chiles Elementary. Have you heard of CAMP Chiles? It is the school motto - children are my priority.
You can see the “camp” influence in signs welcoming the students for the 2009-10 academic year all around the school. Since 2002, the first year Chiles could be rated, Chiles has beeni rated as an “A” school by the Fla Dept of Education. Chi les a l so rece ived an “AYP” (adequate yearly pro-gress) rating in the no schools left behind program.
Chiles has been recognized by the Hillsborough County School Board for having 96% attendance for 8 years. Check out the informative Chiles’ classroom web sites at http://chiles.mysdhc.org/Classroom%20Websites
Chiles PTA Charting a Course for Success The Chile PTA has also received an award for having 100% membership for 7 years. Suzie Morse is once again Chiles PTA president and the Chiles family is always looking for parents and commu-nity members to get involved in our school.
Meet The Teacher Was A Success New students and return-ing students and their par-ents had an opportunity to meet their 2009-10 teach-ers and check out the classroom on August 24th. This was great fun and a good way to start the year!
A few Important Notes
Chiles grade level curriculum nights are the following:
In the unlikely event of an evacuation, the Chiles reuni-fication site is Liberty Middle School which is located at 17400 Commerce Park Blvd. Most likely parents would receive a call from the School District’s Parent-link sys-tem explaining the emergency and where the children could be picked up.

The 2009-2010 school year is off to a great start! Ms Kimberly Keenan, TPE principal, sent each family a back to school mes-sage for the entire Tampa Palms family, along with some important tips for the coming year. Here are some excerpts.
Dear Families, Happy New School Year! We are ex-cited to celebrate Tampa Palms 20th Birthday! 20 years of “taking flight and soaring to new heights”. The teach-ers and staff are looking forward to partnering with you so that we can create the very best instructional environ-ment for your child. Safety-Our Number 1 Priority Your child’s safety is of the up most importance to our staff. Please assist us in keeping your child safe by fol-lowing the school’s safety procedures. Parents should only pick up their children in the car rider line. Please don’t park in the staff lot and walk over to get your child. The more children we have walking in the parking lot, the greater our chances of having a serious accident. Thank you for your understanding. Remember our chil-dren’s safety is worth following the procedures. Mark your Calendars Open House will be held on Thursday, September 17th from 5:00-6:00pm and 6:00-7:00pm. The book fair will be open the evening of Open House for pur-chases. Please note this infor-mative evening is designed for parents to get an overview of the curriculum, assess-ments, and classroom procedures.
Honoring Grandparents The administrative staff and teachers are thrilled to an-nounce that we will be hosting our annual ever Grandparents’ Breakfast. On Monday, September 14th children in grades Kindergarten through second grade and on Tuesday, September 15th children in third through fifth grade may enjoy a special Tampa Palms morning with their grandparent. Grandparents and their grandchildren may arrive at school on their designated day from 7:30-7:45 and go directly to the child’s classroom. Grandparents will meet the teacher and their grand-child’s classmates and watch our morning show. At 8:15, all grandparents and grandchildren will journey to the cafeteria to enjoy a delicious breakfast prepared by the cafeteria staff. Our special morning will conclude at 8:45am. Grand-parents will pay $2.50 the morning of the breakfast and the children will eat for free. We hope that your family will be able to participate in this very special day!
Important Anti—Bullying Information Hillsborough County Public Schools has adopted an anti-bullying and harassment policy to insure that all of its students and school employees have an educational set-ting that is safe, secure, and free from harassment and bullying of any kind. Our Tampa Palms is program is entitled- Be a Buddy, Not a Bully! 1. We will not bully others. 2. Bullying is cruel-not cool. 3. We will try to help students who are
bullied. 4. Say it is wrong and NEVER join in with the bully. 5. We will try to include children who are left out. 6. It’s better to be a buddy, then a bully. 7. If we know that someone is being bullied we will
tell an adult. We are requesting that all families help to support our Be a Buddy, Not a Bully! program by discussing these guidelines for behavior with their children on a regular basis.
