  • Moynalty Steam Threshing Festival

On Sunday 10th August 2014, Music Matters travelled for our first ever performance outside Dublin at the Moynalty Steam Threshing Festival in Moynalty, Co. Meath. Around 30,000 people attended this event, which had food stalls, arts and crafts stalls, a dog show, animals, steam engines, a children's fun fair, and 7 hours of live entertainment - ending with the Irish country singer, Nathan Carter. We would like to thank Margaret Farrelly, our "Secret Millionaire", who has remained such a wonderful friend to all of us at Music Matters, for inviting us to this festival. Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation also go out to Peter Gaynor and the Moynalty Threshing Committee, who organised a free bus (from the Flexibus company in Navan, Co. Meath) to transport many of our members to and from Moynalty. We would be delighted to perform at the festival next year and we hope that our performance will become an annual event! The raindrops never dampened our spirits, as we stormed the stage!

As the afternoon wore on, the rain turned so heavy, that we started a sing-song in the white marquee - where festival goers enjoyed their tea and lunch. Willie also played a few tunes, such as Frank Sinatra's "I did it my way" on accordion and Dave sang traditional Irish folk songs. Our friends Margaret and her husband Leo dropped in! We had a special gift for them! Margaret is Managing Director of Clonarn Clover, which is Ireland's largest independent supplier of free range eggs. Another product which is manufactured at the factory in Mullagh, Co. Cavan is O'Egg- a liquid whole egg and separated egg white products which are available in many supermarkets throughout Ireland. Bearing this in mind our members spent 3 hours making a chicken-themed mural to be displayed on the factory wall!
