Governing Council
The Governing Council have voted that there will be no
increase to school fees in 2018 and have kept the Materials
and Service charges at $350. This will be the second year
that we have polled the community as this allows us to
legally recover the full $350 standard sum. The School
community were invited to attend the Governing Council
meeting on Tuesday night, 31st October, to discuss the 2018
Materials & Services fees. The Governing Council
unanimously endorsed the M&S fees at $350 per student
for the 2018 school year. An explanation letter and a voting
slip will be posted home to all families on Friday 10th
November. Each family is entitled to one vote per student
attending Salisbury Heights in 2018. The voting slip must
be returned to Sue McKee, the returning officer, or to the
Front Office by Friday 24th
November.
Two members of the Governing Council will be counting
votes on Monday 27th
November and parents will be
notified of the outcome as soon as practical through the
newsletter, SMS and email.
Please note all families leaving Salisbury Heights at the
end of this year are not required to complete the voting slip
and will not receive a polling letter.
Thank you for your support.
Charities Day
We are hoping by the time you receive the newsletter we
will have had another successful Charities Day. This is one
of the favourite days on the calendar for many of our staff
and students. All the children and staff are quite excited and
have been working on their stalls. The students develop
many great skills while getting set up for Charities Day as
well as nurturing a sense of social responsibility to look
after others less fortunate than themselves. Children have
been busy advertising the stalls they are running on
Charities Day.
Students will be able to select from a variety of food, games
and stalls to purchase things. Hopefully the weather will
also be kind to us. Thanks to all the community for your
support with donations and money to buy from the stalls.
We will be presenting cheques to this year’s charities at
assembly over the next couple of weeks. This year the
students have chosen to support Women’s and Children’s
Hospital Foundation and the Animal Welfare League.
Remembrance Day Assembly
On Wednesday 15th
November we will
be holding our Remembrance Day
assembly. It is always a very moving
assembly and very important in educating our students to
understand the significance of those who gave their lives so
ours could be better. We always have good parent
attendance at this assembly. This year we will hold our
acknowledgement on the first Wednesday after the actual
day, 15th
November.
Parent Helper Morning Tea –
Thursday 16th
November
Invitations have gone out to parents and
volunteers who have given their time to
support the school in many different
ways. If you have volunteered in some way and have not
received your invitation please pop into the office and
collect one. It is always a very pleasant time and a very
important chance for us to say thank you to our wonderful
volunteers and acknowledge the amazing contribution they

November.
We are expecting the first transition visit to be extremely
busy.
Miss Tania, Mrs Routleff and Mrs Spartley will be taking
the transition groups in rooms 1,2 & 4 and will be assisted
by Sue Moss, Sharon Knowles and Katrina Hogarth.
The current reception students will be involved with a
special program with Ms Nguyen and Ms Coard both of

Amber Arruzzolo – Student Wellbeing Leader
Confidence is our program achieve focus key for term 4.
Confidence is about:
- Academic Confidence
- Accepting myself
- Taking risks
- Being independent
- Believing ‘I can do it!’
At Salisbury Heights, children will have many
opportunities in this very busy term to further develop their
confidence when performing at our school assemblies,
Christmas concert and in all of their learning to finish off
the year. Along with our Confidence Key students are
continuing to develop their ‘Growth Mindsets’ – using all
of the keys together to be persistent and not give up, further
develop self-esteem and improve learning outcomes and
work habits – using the term ‘Not Yet…’.

"Excellence and Care"
Room 7 has been
busy this year
and would like to
share some of our
favourite
moments from
2017
OUR CARE
BEARS
Care Bears are Teddies which
we made with shredded paper,
a sock, 4 rubber bands, 2 pom
poms, 2 eyes, 2 pop sticks and
a piece of paper. We did it in
Week 3 Term 1. We had snow
in our class with the shredded
paper while stuffing our
teddies with it. We had lots of
fun making them and wrote a
story about it. – Anabelle,
Jema, Keli
SWIMMING DIARIES
Room 7 had a lovely week
of swimming lessons at the
Aquadome. In the hot
weather the water was very
refreshing and lovely.
Everyone enjoyed the lovely
instructors. We had a great
time learning new things and
techniques. We also got to
try boards, balls, life jackets
and noodles. - Paige
Swimming was the best.
My favourite bit of
swimming was the
awesome big slide. When I
got there I was really
nervous because I couldn’t
swim, but I learnt. This
year’s swimming is the best
I’ve ever had. I wanted to
do more swimming but
there is always next year. -
Sierra
Swimming week was fun
mainly because it took away
most of the morning
lessons. My favourite part
was getting in the water and
wearing flippers because it
enabled us to go faster. I
was nervous when they
tested to see which group
we would be in. Overall it
was a great week. - Isobel

Our Zoo Visit
Book Week Parade
In Term 2 we went to the
Adelaide Zoo. We saw lots
animals like monkeys,
meerkats, panda, seal and
lots more. We went for the
whole day travelling in a
bus. At the Education
Centre people from Flinders
University did a play for us.
- Aimee
On the 26th
of June
Rm 7 and Rm 11
went to the Adelaide
Zoo. We went into
10 groups; every
group had lots of fun
together. - Olivia
In Term 2 Room 7
and 11 went to the
Zoo. We had so much
fun and all of us had
maps. We went to see
the lion, it roared at
us. It was cool and
fun. - Tia
In Book Week we went to the
Parade and I thought the
funniest pair of costumes was
my friend Keli and me. I was
a Pokémon and he was a
Pokémon trainer. It was
funny because I was
following him everywhere as
he was my master. Other
costumes were Harry Potter,
AFL Players, unicorns and
many more. - Ryan
This year Book Week
was fun and I loved it.
I was a unicorn and it
was cool. My class
loved it too, we had
fun dressing up. -
Jessica
For Book Week there
were awesome costumes.
Some people dressed up as
Minecraft characters,
animals and some as
princesses. - Abby Assembly – Term 4
On 25th
October we were
performing the Fight
Song. It was cool because
everyone was doing all the
moves at the right time.
And it was nice and loud.
- Logan
Our term 4 assembly was lots of fun.
We found the Chicken Dance amazing
fun. We also liked the Fight Song but
not as much as the Chicken Dance. We
let the whole school join in the Chicken
Dance. Overall it was a big success. -
Kiara
On Wednesday 25th
October Room 7 and
Room 11 did the Fight
Song and we performed in
front of the whole school.
It was really scary the
dance moves were fast
and slow. - Cleopatra
