Message from The President

Dear SWC Members, After the Getting to Know Us event in January, I saw first-hand that the Southbridge Women’s Club has something for everyone. It was fun to see so many women at the event that were laughing and telling stories of their past and present. We have such a wonderful group of Southbridge ladies who want to get out, stay busy and give back to our community.

Because of all the interest in the interest groups, pun intended, I have decided to make sure that this newsletter introduces our interest group leaders and their groups of busy ladies. As a result, you will see that we have something for everyone. The Southbridge Women’s Club is starting its 8th year. Kathie Viall, a long term, energetic resident of Southbridge, is the founder of the club. Unfortunately for us, she and husband Bob moved to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina last year. I chatted with Kathie on the phone recently and I am happy to report that they are doing well in their new community. Kathie’s main focus is being grandmother to Livia and Kia and spending as much time with them as possible. Her most important ongoing search has been looking for a new hairstylist. I totally understand her anxiety in that area. Bob is searching for a new golf course, thankfully he’s narrowed it down to 2 clubs so the search may be over. Most of their time since moving has been spent locating and hiring a contractor to renovate their kitchen and master bath. Not an easy process since there is an abundance of potential clients for each contractor. Kathie recently joined a gym which she reported is a necessity since dining out in Charleston has been their favorite pastime. Glad you are doing well Kathie. We miss you and thank you for making our club possible.

That’s it for now. My parting advice is to stay involved, read the newsletter and keep having fun with your SWC neighbors.

The Getting to Know Us event on January 25th was successful and fondly remembered. Seventy-five enthusiastic ladies attended the event at Vickery’s. They enjoyed spending time and catching up with their friends and neighbors while learning about SWC. All had the chance to renew their membership in SWC or join for the first time. Everyone also had the opportunity to participate in the 50/50 raffle. Board members Theresa Pugh and Susan Terry made sure everyone had the chance to buy a ticket. Note the picture with Malinda Smith buying a ticket from the duo. Unfortunately that was not the winning ticket. The winning ticket was purchased by Jackie Occiano, congrats Jackie!

Prior to the event, President, Janee Przybyl encouraged everyone to bring a small item from their past or present. It was fun hearing people’s stories from CDs they recorded to sorority pins from college to a button from their uniformed past.

Additionally, the women got to meet all the SWC board members and the leaders of the interests groups such as Marie Foley for the Dog Network and Sandy Anderson from Southbridge Service.

They got the chance to learn about each interest group and sign up to become participants if choosing to do so, which many did. Thank you to all interest group leaders, board members and all attendees. SWC certainly has something for everyone.

On Thursday, February 15th, a lively group of ladies from SWC enjoyed dinner and a show in downtown Savannah! Dinner at Billy's Place was filled with lively conversation, beautiful background piano music, and delicious meals. The production of Mamma Mia! at The Historic Savannah Theater was absolutely delightful, and a good time was had by all. Everyone there decided this would not be our last dinner and a show outing...so keep your eyes open for the next one!

Women’s Conversation Group– Barbara Dunn

We recently gathered to talk about issues affecting women and to laugh and drink wine!

The Southbridge Garden Club is dedicated to educating and improving our southern gardens, environmentally responsible gardening using native plants, and contributing to Southbridge's public spaces. We have planted 3 live oaks, a magnolia tree, and an eastern red cedar that we lit for the holidays. Often people say "But I know nothing about gardening". That's what we are here for, you do not need a green thumb and we don't dig in the dirt!

Our meetings are held the 3rd Friday of each month, with a pre-meeting social time, a meeting, and usually a speaker on various topics ranging from plants to

even snakes. We go to the local gardens and businesses, and recently toured the Coastal GA Botanical Gardens' Camellia trail. Our February meeting featured a discussion with Gary Rowden, the landscape manager for Southbridge.

PUPDATE: from The Dog Network– Marie Foley

We are looking forward to hearing from guest speakers Dr. Kristen Hiers of Companion Animal Hospital and Macayla Eason of Bentley’s Pet Stuff. If you are interested in hosting either of these speakers or in learning more about The Dog Network, please contact Marie Foley at [email protected]. Woof! It’s All About the Dogs!

See Savannah and her surroundings through the eyes of your camera. From Cell phone to DSLR's, we learn from each other technically and artistically. Our outings range from museums, gardens, Wormsloe, Dunham Farms, downtown, Wildlife Refuge, of birds, architecture, and miniatures. After each shoot, we have lunch nearby and share our ideas and previous photos if desired. Recently we toured the Civil Rights Museum and March will be at Bonaventure. Outings are the 2nd Tuesday of the month.
