Captains of Sport I am delighted to announce the following Captains for the term:
Captain of Netball – Charlotte Hull; Vice-Captain – Imogen Lott Captain of Hockey – Henry Lewis; Vice-Captain – Edward Mackaness
Many congratulations to them all and I do wish them and all the teams the very best for the season ahead.
Visiting Headmasters We enjoyed a thoroughly entertaining assembly this morning from Dr Anthony Wallersteiner, Head of Stowe School. We have another visiting Head next Friday – Mr Will Phelan, Principal of Stamford Schools. The assembly begins at 8.45am and parents are very welcome to attend and then meet Mr Phelan for coffee afterwards.
Cross-Country Our Cross-Country teams did incredibly well at the Bedfordia event this week with the Junior Girls and Junior Boys both coming 2nd, the Senior Boys coming 3rd and Senior Girls coming in a superb 1st place. These results are tremendous considering there were over 20 schools competing. Well done to all the runners.
Spratton Hall Cross-Country Relays On Monday, we look forward to hosting our annual Spratton Hall Relays. This will be a busy and ex-citing afternoon with 14 schools taking part. The car park, therefore, will be very busy on Monday afternoon but, as the staff will park on the Laurels netball courts, this will free up parking spaces in the staff car park and the overflow car park. I do, of course, wish the teams all the very best.
Mrs Fuller It has, of course, been a difficult start to the term following the sad news of Mrs Fuller’s passing. The children and staff, however, have been quite magnificent in how they have coped.
On Tuesday 28 January at 9.00am, we are holding a special assembly to remember Mrs Fuller and to celebrate her life. This will be a whole school gathering including Pre-Prep, Prep and all staff. Unfor-tunately, that will mean that the Hunter Hall is full to capacity and we are, therefore, unable to invite parents.
A number of parents have asked if they could make a donation to a particular charity that Mrs Fuller supported. By chance, Mr Orme-Smith, father of Bea in Year 8, is taking part in a rather gruelling challenge to raise funds for the Brain Tumour Charity. He is taking part in a team event in the Swiss Alps to attempt to ascend the height of Everest (8,848m) in just four days. You can read more about the climb here. Once he has completed the challenge, Mr Orme-Smith is going to come in to talk about it to the older pupils with photos and film. Supporting Mr Orme-Smith and his team would be a wonderful way to contribute to a charity that Mrs Fuller’s family now hold very dear. If you would like to make a donation to the Brain Tumour Charity and in doing so support the Everest in the Alps challenge, you can do so here: donate.
We are also planning to have some sort of physical remembrance for Mrs Fuller in school. The Pre-Prep staff are busy discussing and deciding what form this will take.
Finally, thank you so much to those Pre-Prep parents who are kindly picking their children up early on Wednesday so that the Pre-Prep staff can attend Mrs Fuller’s funeral. We are so grateful to you for your support and compassion shown.
As a mark of respect and in honour of Mrs Fuller, the school flag will fly at half-mast on Wednesday, the day of the funeral.

Miss Morricca
Jessica Morricca, GAP, talks to Imogen Lott and Shanaya Jasinarachchi in Year 8.
What is a usual day in the life of a GAP student?
I come into school at around 8:10 and usually have a morn-ing duty. This involves being near the playing areas so chil-dren are safe. I then go to assembly and am often embar-rassed, as I have to go up for some sort of task. We have to make sure the school is running smoothly by doing a lot of photocopying and printing for the busy teachers. We then help with games and P.E in the afternoons for all the year groups.
If you could describe your perfect weekend, what would it be?
I start with a lay in on the Saturday, followed by a full English and a cup of tea. I then would play a game of hockey for Northampton Saints ladies. Saturday evening I would like to go out for a meal with my friends followed by some dancing. On Sunday, I would have another lie in and relax with my family by going on a nice dog walk.
What are your plans once you have finished your GAP year at Spratton Hall?
After finishing this year at Spratton I am going to go travel-ling around Asia for a couple of months. I am most looking
forward to Thailand and Vietnam. I am then going to attend Newcastle University where I am going to study Fine Art and History (sorry Mr Roberts). I am studying this because I would like to be an Auctioneer.
Now for the ‘quickfire’ questions:
Favourite holiday destination? Bali Favourite sport to play or watch? Hockey Favourite drink? Coke Favourite gadget? Phone Favourite meal? Mac and Cheese Favourite day? Friday Favourite television show? Gossip Girl Favourite film? Harry Potter Favourite website? YouTube Finally, can you describe yourself in 3 words? Sporty, Outgoing and Friendly.

Following the success of the Christmas Fair in December, SHSPA are looking forward to two further events this term.
Pre-Prep Film Night The first is the very exciting Pre-Prep Film Night, which will be in the Hunter Hall on Friday 7th February. This year it will be The Secret Life of Pets 2. Tickets, which are £5 each and includes a packed tea, will be on sale the week commencing Monday 3rd February in the entrance hall.
Murder Mystery Evening SHSPA, alongside Mr Wilson and some willing volunteers/victims, are pleased to announce that we will be hosting Spratton Hall's very first Murder Mystery Evening for parents only! This will be in the Hunter Hall on Friday 6th March. Tickets will be £20 each, which includes a welcome drink and a curry supper.
Portraits For those of you who attended the May Ball last year, you may remember an auction lot from local artist, Sam Wadsworth. Sam is a contemporary portrait artist who lives and works in North-amptonshire and specialises in striking head and shoulders por-traits. Sam has kindly offered to donate 10% of any commis-sions undertaken by anyone associated with Spratton Hall School to SHSPA's chosen charity. For examples of his work, or for more information, please visit his web-site: www.samwadsworth.co.uk
Our chosen charity this year is Eve Northampton, a local domes-tic abuse charity and family refuge. The toys, books and make-up left over from the Christmas Fair, were gratefully received by Eve.

On Tuesday, 34 pupils went off to run in the Bedfordia Cross-Country Race. This is a huge event, which involved over 25 other schools with approximately 150 runners in each race. The Junior Girls and the Junior Boys came 2nd. This was a superb result which required ever run-ner to perform the best they could. It should also be noted that the Junior Girls’ score was superb and they were very narrowly beaten by just two points. The Senior Boys had a great result coming 3rd overall and the Senior Girls ran brilliantly from the start to the finish with an amazing final score putting them in 1st place well ahead of any other team. Full results will soon be available on the website.

Moving from one year group of children to another may be just a quick dash across the play-ground in the fresh air but, with the Spring term topics unfolding around us, it can feel more like travelling from one continent to another! Focusing on ‘Native American Indians’ in Year 1, I have watched as a tepee has been created, with some wonderful instructional writing taking place to ensure that poles, ‘buffalo skins’ and ropes don’t come tumbling down on the Chief’s head! In contrast, Year 2 are immersed in all things icy, white and cold as they begin exploring facts about polar bears, penguins and the Antarctica in their topic entitled, ‘Pole to Pole’. Meanwhile, in Re-ception, my nerves have been in tatters with the sudden loud bursts of ‘nee-naw, nee-naw’ com-ing from the children as they learn their new firefighter song, linked to their new topic ‘When I Grow Up…’
Staying on the theme of the Reception topic, Mrs Bold and Miss Yeo would love to hear from any parents who wouldn’t mind speaking to the children about their job and what it entails. Any pro-fessions are most welcome - although the children are very keen to hear from any astronauts, deep sea divers (only mermaids need apply!) and anyone whose job involves climbing buildings whilst wearing a cape!
Finally, with the cold January weather in mind, it is now hugely important that the children are equipped with green woolly hats, plus their school scarves and gloves (all named, of course, for easy identification), when coming to school each day. Fresh air is much needed throughout the day and is all the more enjoyable when wrapped up warm. To this end, whenever the tempera-ture drops, the Pre-Prep staff will be encouraging the children to put on their tracksuit trousers for added protection when going outside.
Fiona Sanchez—Head of Pre-Prep
