Hello Defence Families!

Well that was quite a term. For those of you who are new to the NT I hope the holidays give you a chance to explore some of the great sights up here.

I wanted to share some work that kids and I have been doing in Defence Kids Club at lunch time. The kids have

called this the Forest of Strength. Each student made a tree with leaves that nourish it. The leaves are labelled with

things they like to do which make them feel happy or strong or at least a little bit better when things get rough. The

idea was that if we all take care of ourselves as individuals, then great things happen around us. These things are

represented by the life in the forest. You will notice the bugs help each other, share, make

friends, learn new things and are able to bounce back. All in all, a pretty great place to be. I

hope that you can talk to your kids about what things they can do to strengthen themselves

while Mum or Dad is away and that they can remember our beautiful Forest of Strength.

Cheers,

Veronica Merton DSTA [email protected]

Please have a look at the information about the Tyler Turtle

Medals Program for students from defence families. It is

running these holidays and comes highly recommended, particularly for those

affected by deployment.
