OPERATION BRIGHTSIDE
Circle Saturday, October 26 on your calendar.
Metro Louisville is providing T-shirts to folks
who sign up early. Be sure to mention your size
when you contact me. Our group will be pitching
in to pick up somewhere here in the City of
Hurstbourne Acres. In the spring we had about 12
participants. Community-wide, the event
removed 16 tons of trash from Metro streets,
sidewalks and green spaces. That is equivalent to
the total amount of trash produced by 22
Americans for one entire year. Let's do it again!

THE COURIER-JOURNAL
Several individuals have contacted the C-J
regarding their dissatisfaction with driveway
deliveries, instead of porch placement as in the
past. The C-J's representatives have indicated that
'everyone' needs to call to complain. There was
no promise that delivery would revert back to the
more convenient & safer front door placement,
but let's do please take time to make that call:
800/866-2211. Newspapers lying at the end of
driveways are an indicator that no one is at home.
Also, People falling in an attempt to retrieve their
papers from their driveways is another concern.
Please make that call: 800/866-2211. Sally Price
Streets and Lights
“No U-turn” signs were installed on Bunsen
Pkwy. in co-operation with the City of
Jeffersontown Works Dept. in order to control
traffic problems. Blowing Tree‟s drive to the
greenhouse has been permanently closed at
Bunsen Pkwy. Speed Bumps at Suffolk (and
Cardwell Way) and Blowing Tree (at gravel
driveway) will be installed on Oct. 4.

to thank everyone that attended and hope

gift cards totaling over $900.00. I enjoyed
meeting with all of the nearby businesses
and most were very generous. I hope you
will patronize them. Also Vision First made
a donation that was not listed in last month‟s
newsletter.
I hope that all of you were notified of the
picnic. The flyers were delivered on
Thursday and Friday and I hope they were
all received.
I had great feedback about the band and if
anyone else has any feedback either good or
bad concerning the picnic or any suggestions

like contact information for any of the

Sanitation
Commissioner Price advised that Eco-Tech

insurance. Regarding the recycling service, she
asked whether weekly recycling is a service we want
to consider for our residents. After a brief
discussion, she agreed to check into the cost, and
include mention in the newsletter. Commissioner
Price was contacted by a resident concerning their
confusion about the recent ABC Ordinance mailing.
She suggested that for future ordinance mailings the
Mayor include a short introductory explanation. He
said he would consider. The Nunnlea Craft Fair will
be 9/27 & 9/28. The new book being discussed at
the next Book Club meeting on 10/14 will be „The
Weird Sisters‟ by Eleanor Brown. Finally,

Streets
Commissioner Lynch reported that he has
been in contact with J-Town regarding the „No U-
Turn‟ signs for Bunsen. It was noted by Mayor Fore
that J-Town does not currently have the equipment
needed to install. Further information will be
provided at next month‟s meeting. Concerning the
speed bumps, the newly projected time of
construction will be 10/1 and 10/2. After a
discussion about the paint scheme for the „No
Solicitation‟ signs, Mayor Fore instructed
Commissioner Lynch to have the signs, a total of 12,
ordered based on the 2015 standards. Finally,
Commissioner Lynch observed a woman pushing a
stroller along Hurstbourne Parkway, concerned
about her safety. The ensuing discussion did not
result in any agreed action by the City to alleviate
the problem.
Police
In response to an issue in which the Police
personnel received access to their paychecks/salary
late, Commissioner Renninger outlined all of the
services that our Police Chief and Police Officers
consistently provide to the city residents and
businesses. Treasurer Hollkamp assured the
Commission that the payroll had been met on
payday. After a discussion, Mayor Fore promised
that all future salary payments will be made on time.
Parks
Commissioner Miles reported on the
upcoming picnic. Several businesses are providing
items. McDonald Gift Cards were purchased by
Lenny Miles for disbursement by the Police
Department as needed. He expressed his thanks to
Commissioner Lynch for his help in refurbishing the
picnic tables. Commissioner Price assisted with
getting the trash bins delivered for the picnic. MSD
has been contacted again about getting the ditch
cleaned out. There is no further progress on getting
approval or assistance from the Camden/Meadows
Apartments for construction of a sidewalk on
Blowing Tree. Commissioner Miles was advised by
the Post Office that any flyers for the picnic or any
city business including the newsletters cannot be
placed in or on any mailbox. Finally, information
on the leaf pickup schedule for this Fall will be
included in the next City newsletter.
NEW/OLD BUSINESS
Snow Removal
Commissioner Renninger was contacted by
DirtWorks to verify who would be providing snow
removal service for our city. It was confirmed that
DirtWorks will continue to provide the service and a
signed contract is forthcoming.
Wall Access to Taylorhurst
From recent criminal activity using the
access in the wall along Hurstbourne Lane, at least
one resident on Hurstbourne Lane is asking that the
City close up the opening. During a discussion,
suggestions to help reduce or eliminate the security
concerns included installing a gate and/or security
camera. There had been previous discussions about
installing an ADA ramp. Mayor Fore proposed that
all of the residents along Hurstbourne Lane be
contacted about this issue. In addition, Mayor Fore
said that he would write a letter to the businesses at
Taylorhurst for their opinion and input.
ABC Ordinance
In answer to a question from a representative
of Liquor Barn at the meeting, Mayor Fore outlined
the reason for the City‟s action in adopting an
ordinance to license and regulate the sale of
alcoholic beverages in the city.
There being no further business or discussion during
the regular meeting, an Executive Session was called
by Mayor Fore. When complete, the regular
meeting will be adjourned.
Respectfully Submitted,
Michael Bolten, City Clerk
