There are lots of ways to find some work over the summer so have a go!

• First get your CV up-to-date. You can get help with this at https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk.

• Then have a good think about possible contacts, family and friends who might have an opportunity for you. Don’t be afraid to ask!

• Keep an eye on your local paper’s job pages.

• Approach local businesses with your CV and a covering letter asking if there are any available positions. (Check the company websites first – they may prefer you to apply through that.)

• Have a look at these websites or ‘google’ summer student jobs:http://www.e4s.co.uk/ http://www.student-jobs.co.uk/ http://vinspired.com http://www.leisurejobs.com/temporary/ http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki/Summer_Job_Guide_for_Students

Summer Break and Start of Term in September

A few reminders before you break up for the summer

• The Autumn terms starts on Thursday 5th September and all students who are returning to College are asked to attend the Welcome Back session between 8.45 and 10.05. Details of when and where you should attend are available from the front page of the Website or from LearnZone. During this session new student ID cards, timetables and important information will be handed out to students and Lead Tutors and Heads of School will be available to offer advice.

• If you do not pass your AS exam (Pass is grade E or above) you are not able to progress with the subject to A2 unless a very rare exception is made following consultation with the relevant Programme Leader. Please attend the Advisory Service at the end of August at Deanfield: full details of where and when to come are available from the front page of the Website or LearnZone.

• You should also attend the Advisory Service if you decide to change your Year 2 programme. (NB: you do not need to attend if you decide after you get your results that you wish to drop down from 4 to 3 A2 subjects; but you are asked to email your Lead Tutor so your enrolments can be updated. Full details are available from LearnZone or the Website).

Finally, I wish you all a good summer break.Simon CuthbertDeputy Principal

Julia LockCareers Adviser

More opportunities on Learnzone – Careers and Higher Education

Due to a limited amount of testing centres in the UK, places for these tests fill up very quickly. We strongly encourage students interested in applying for US study who would like to sit the SAT or ACT to register early.

You need to register through College Board for the SAT and ACTstudent for the ACT.

How do I know if I have to take an admissions exam? Most US universities will require students to take either the SAT Reasoning Test OR ACT. However, the most competitive US universities will require students to take the SAT Reasoning Test and 2-3 SAT Subject Exams OR the ACT with Writing. Please note some US universities do not require any admissions tests (a list is online). In order to ensure that you are taking the appropriate test, check the admissions webpage of each university to which you will apply.

Interested in learning more about the US admissions process? Attend the Fulbright undergraduate admissions seminar in London.
