President’s Message

Dear PVSSC Members:

It was so wonderful to look out the window on Monday morning and see thegrass! I'm sure your dogs were as delighted as mine were. They enjoyed thesnow, but having your paws firmly on the solid ground, made my gang prettyhappy. I was happier then all three of mine put together!! Please share yourSnowzilla pictures with all of us. Send the photos to Gail Mackiernan forinclusion in the next Wiretap or to Betsy Davison for our website. I am sureyou all have some wonderful fun photos!

I want to again thank Elaine and Nicole Miller for hosting our Januarymeeting. Albeit a small meeting, several good discussions took place. Onewas a suggestion to have a workshop with owner, dogs and a mentor to helpteach some grooming tips. Several years ago we had some of our membersdo demonstrations on dog grooming. But we have a lot of new pups outthere with new owners and I think a hand!s-on workshop could be both funand educational. More to come on this great suggestion, and thanks to SallyMarsh for bringing it up.

Membership dues should be sent to Karen Ioffredo before February 29 (youget an extra day this year!). Look for the dues form with this Wiretap. Singlemembership is $30, family $45 and junior membership is $1 per junior inaddition to the family membership or single membership. Breeders! dues andforms are due February 14th.

We already have a lot of events on our 2016 calendar. May is our annualawards dinner, June our sanctioned Barn hunt trial along with our annualpicnic. Our match will be in August, our specialty in October, and our lure-coursing Fun Day in November. That leaves us some room to do other thingsthat will be of interest to the entire membership. Let your officers and Boardmembers know of any suggestions you might have. After all, our club is allabout our members and our wonderful Standard Schnauzers. We are tryingto offer a wide variety of fun activities for ALL our members, so let!s see moreof you out there with your dogs! After all, SS Do It ALL!

We have established an awards committee to look into our annual awards.Including all new performance events, as well as some newly sanctionedAKC titles. We want to be fair to all aspects of performance, obedience andconformation. Some of the committee members will be reaching out to ourmembers that have the most expertise in the various venues. Please helpthem so we can be fair to all of our membership. The committee is GailMacKiernan, Rose Miller, and Michelle Bell.

Our next meeting will be at the home of Gail Mackiernan and Barry Cooper. The program will be all about Barn Hunt. We hope to have some videos, demonstrations and information about this popular new sport that theStandard Schnauzer was born to perform. Since we will be holding our ownBarn Hunt this year, come and bring your questions. I hope to see everyonethere!

FROM JUDY BOXER: I want to thank SUSAN BUNCH for volunteering to be the 2016 PVSSC

SPECIALTY CHAIR. This leaves only TWO unfilled committee positions for 2016: Luncheon Coordinatorfor the Specialty (which is a pot-luck) and Lunch Coordinator for the August Match. If you think you couldhelp with these jobs, please contact me at [email protected] or 703-680-0512. I will make sure you getlots of help!

Also, LISA KLEPP has volunteered to help manage the PVSSC FACEBOOK

PAGE. However, she and Ila Schmeling need to hear from YOU with updates andphotos to keep this page active and of interest to members and the general public.Send your material to LISA at [email protected] or Ila at [email protected]

From Brad Smith: I thought members might enjoy seeing this list of Standard Schnauzers that I

put together from AKC!s list of dogs who have qualified to go to Rally Nationals on March 18. Last year,Tula was the only Standard who qualified to compete at the RAE level. As you can see, this year, she!sin good company and PVSSC owners (as well as breeders) are well represented.

From Nicole Miller: I have a great new AMAZING FIND! It is PRO-DEN

PLAQUE OFF DENTAL CARE for DOGS and it definitely works. You add a verysmall scoop of the powder to their food and it really does seem to reduce theamount of plaque and tartar within just a few weeks. It is an all-natural material. It isavailable from Amazon and other vendors, and [Editor!s Note\ the Amazon reviewsare almost all 5!s.]

PVSSC 2015 ANNUAL AWARDS!

On the following page is the application for annual PVSSC Titlist plaques. Beautiful

wooden plaques with a PVSSC medallion will be awarded for all AKC titles for Championships,

Grand Champions, Obedience, Rally, Agility, Lure Coursing and Herding titles gained in 2015.

WHERE ARE ALL THE FORMS? In past years we have included copies of all the forms –

which took up half the Wiretap. Since a relatively small percentage of the members actually use

these, it seems unnecessary to send to everyone. All the forms can be downloaded from the

club web site at: www.pvssc.org (click on ”Annual Awards” button on home page), or

obtained in electronic or (if you do not have Internet access) in hard copy from PamelaMinnich,

Please remember, use ONE form per EACH DOG please!

The full AWARDS RULES are lengthy and somewhat complex and too much to include in the

Wiretap. (if we want anything else in it!) They can be accessed on the PVSSC web site

(www.pvssc.org) and by email or hard copy from Pamela Minnich, 717-916-3874

ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for any award, according to the PVSSC standing rules, the member

must have attended two PVSSC events (meeting, match, specialty, dinner etc.) in 2015. YOUMUST ALSO BE IN GOOD STANDING (i.e., DUES PAID!) For new members, you become

eligible as soon as your application is received and noted by the membership chair. If you are

unsure of your date, contact Karen Ioffredo at 703-356-9763.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, CONTACT PAM AT [email protected]

The Club has FEES for calculating points or looking up show/champion records:

First dog—we will do it for free Second and each additional dog, $35/dog.

We are sorry to have to charge, but in recent years the Awards Chair has ended up spending

hours essentially completing applications for other members. Remember you can get show

records from AKC and from MBF and Rau dog show web sites. At least provide the name and

date of show. For new title plaque applications, you simply need to submit a photocopy ofthe AKC certificate or a print out the title confirmation from the AKC web site (need a MYAKC account, which is free – visit www.akc.org to register).

APPLICATION DEADLINE IS MARCH 15, 2015FORMS TO BE SENT TO PAMELA MINNICH

Awards will be announced in the April Wiretap and will be distributed at the

Annual Awards Dinner May 7th.

NON-AKC TITLE CERTIFICATES!

We also offer certificates for non-AKC titles! The application form is included here with a list of
