6:00PM-7:00PM

Here’s how Trunk O’ Treat works:

Car volunteers arrive after 4pm Mass and park in the rear lot with trunks pointed outward.

Volunteers then decorate their trunks, so the kids can easily go safely from trunk to trunk.

"Trunk O' Treat"!

CAR VOLUNTEERS, here’s what to do:

! Arrive at the St. Paul Church parking lot as close to 5:15 pm as possible. You will need time to set up your

decorations once you are parked.

! Provide some treats for the children. You will also be given an additional supply of treats from those that

are donated by others. We will let you know the final count.

! Decorate your trunk any way you’d like-- be creative! For ideas, go online and search “trunk or treat” imag-

es. Please not too scary for the little ones. You can dress up too!

! If you want to illuminate your trunk, please remember NO candles/flames of any kind!

! No glass decorations of any kind!

! Your car must remain parked until the end of the event. (The event runs from 6:00-7:00).

! If you wish to be next to someone, arrive at the same time. We cannot “save spaces”.

! If the case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled.

ATTENDEES, here’s what to do:

! All children are welcome with their families.

! Arrive between 5:30pm and 6:00pm and park in the new lot or on Alling Street.

! Dress in appropriate Halloween costumes – keep in mind this is a kid-friendly event!

! Please bring a bag for your treats (Note: There will be allergy-safe treats!)

! Admission is a canned good & a donation of a bag of individually wrapped candy (1 per child)

Beautiful rain and rest

The rain last week was so appreciated. Sunday was a perfect day to sit back, relax, take a nap, read a book or do whatever. I hope that everyone in the parish is able

to have a moment to rest and recharge. If we don’t take them, it’s so easy to get overwhelmed with all that is going on. Last week I went away for two days to sit by the ocean in Maine and listen to the waves. It was

peaceful, prayerful and restful at the same time. Please take the time every once in a while to do the same.

Screws / Nuts and Bolts We are in need of an experienced carpenter / handy-man to help us with the second floor of the school.

When they abated the asbestos and put in new floor finishes, they did not hang all the doors properly or rein-stall the door stops correctly. The building committee

told me that there is about ½ day’s work up there if someone knows what they are doing. Please call either Fr. Robert or Diane Funk if you think you could volun-teer your services to help us get everything ship shape

up there. Going Out to Bid

Once again we are going out to bid for our snow remov-al project. While our current company has done a great job it’s always good to write up a proposal and send it

out to bid. Now with the parking lot across the street, there will be more snow to plow and we have to keep our cost as low as possible. When you look at our prop-

erty, there are now two sizeable parking areas and lots of sidewalks to clear. If you want a copy of the RFP, it will be available from the main office in the near future

There They Go Have you seen the Saint Paul School Cross Country team out running around town? I’m amazed at how

many children participate in the program. It’s so im-portant for Catholic schools to provide as many extra-curricular activities as possible. I’m proud of what we do

for our school children, and I’m grateful to the people who give of their time to make all of our extracurricular activities happen. When you see our children running,

say a little prayer for them and for our beautiful little school.

On December 1, we will begin taking applica-tions for the next school year (2017-18). Prior to that, we are happy to talk with you about our school, and to provide you with an Admissions package and other school-related information. Tours of our school and shadow visits for pro-

spective students are also available. A note to Preschool parents: part of our admissions process for Preschool parents is a classroom visit with your child. Alt-hough applications won't be accepted until December 1, par-ents can schedule their classroom visits any time before then. Please contact Ellen Bertolami at 860-828-4343 x136 or email her for more information: [email protected].

We look forward to hearing from you!

Last Monday, members of the Saint Paul School Dinosaur Club took a rare, private behind-the-scenes tour of the vertebrate paleontology collection at the Yale Peabody Museum. The students spent time in the stacks of fossils below the public exhib-its and were able to see a multi-tude of fossils. The students earned the tour when they placed in last year's Paleo Knowledge Bowl, an annual competition where teams compete in a test of knowledge of the history of life on Earth. Saint Paul's will again compete on November 13.

FR. TIM JOINS US

We celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary with a procession of the statue of our Blessed Mother and by reciting the 5 joyful myster-ies. As Mr. Grant reminded us, praying together as a school community makes Jesus and Mary very happy, and there are many angels that join with us when we do.

OUR LADY OF CALVARY PROGRAM October 26, 2016,

Dinner 6pm Program 7-9pm $40 Program and Dinner $25 Program only

Join us to explore the writings of Pope Francis, the Jubilee Year of Mercy, and how this Mercy is continued in our lives. Pope Francis reminds us that God's name is Mercy. He says that the Church, if it is to have authenticity, must be merciful, first and last. The Jubilee Year of Mercy is but one step in a reforming of our minds, hearts and lives to be in tune with God's Mercy, which Pope Francis so beautifully presents to the whole world. This presentation will look at the writings of Pope Francis, the Jubilee Year of Mercy, and how this Mercy is continued in our lives. Deadline for reservations is one week before program. Sr. Elissa Rinere, C.P. has been a Passionist sister for over 30 years. She holds a Master's degree in education from the University of Rhode Island and a Doctorate in Canon Law (J.C.D.) from Catholic University of America. She has spent many years working in the Church as both a canon lawyer and pastoral minister. Call (860) 677-8519 or email [email protected]. Payment is due at time of registration.

CALL TODAY! THERE IS

ROOM FOR YOURS.

DEFENDING OUR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

#242 OCT. 16, 2016 Recently, Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the USCCB's Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty, decried comments made by Martin Castro, chairman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, who said that the phrases "religious liberty" and "religious freedom" were "code words" used to discriminate. “Today, Cath-olic priests, religious and laity can be found walk-ing the neighborhood streets of our most strug-gling communities in places abandoned by a ‘throwaway culture’ that has too often determined that quick profits matter more than communities. We are there offering education, health care, so-cial services, and hope, working to serve as the ‘field hospital’ Pope Francis has called us to be. We wish we were there in even greater numbers, but we are there to humbly offer the full promise of America to all. Rest assured, if people of faith con-tinue to be marginalized, it is the poor and vulner-able, not the Chairman and his friends, who will suffer,” said Lori. If you haven’t done so already, please voice your opposition to the federal health care mandate by calling U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Ser-vices Sylvia Mathews Burwell at 202-205-5445, and your elected state representatives. Let them know that the mandate is in violation of our First Amendment right to religious freedom.
