Happy Year of the Monkey!

The LOTE assembly was held on 18 February and was

facilitated by Year Six Students. The assembly items includ-

ed a play “Pulling the Carrot” performed by some Year

Three students, and a Chinese ethnic group costume pa-

rade performed by some Year Six students with great enthusiasm.

I was the grandpa in the play. I felt very excited to have the opportunity to act in the play. It was fun to learn Chinese and I

felt good when I understood the song and knew what to do. (Christopher, Room 19)

I learnt to say Chinese loudly, clearly and confidently. I felt excited before the assembly, but was nervous when I performed.

(Grace, Room 19 and Aimee, Room 10)

It was fascinating learning about the heritage of all the costumes. When I stepped on the stage, I was so nervous but it all

went fine. It was heaps of fun! (Isobel, Room 24)

I was modelling the Yi nationality costume. My skirt was long, colourful and beautiful. I volunteered to have a go because

my goal is to be confident in front of a big crowd, and I achieved my goal! I felt very proud of myself. Thank you to Mrs Foo

for giving me the opportunity to perform. (Tania, Room 25

I learnt a lot about people in China, their culture and lifestyle. Mia and I modelled the Mongolian dresses. Mine was red and

had a belt. It was absolutely gorgeous with an amazing head piece. I wanted to participate because I like to dress up and I

wasn’t nervous at all. (Bridget, Room 25)

The assembly was entertaining and I think lots of people learnt something new. As an announcer, I thought I was going to

mess everything up but in the end it turned out fine. Overall, I think it was a fun assembly and I can’t wait to perform at

Rossmoyne Senior High School. (Evander, Room 26)

Modelling the Tibetan dress was a new experience for me. I especially liked the dress because it had double length sleeves

that can be removed or added when needed. I felt confident walking down the runway, posing as I went. When I turned

back I walking with pride. (Alison, Room 24)

Our LOTE assembly was amazing! Showing off the costumes in a fashion show was a great idea. There were bright col-

ours and smiles everywhere. (Acasia, Room 24)

fun, interactive, based on cognitive-behavioural principles and has been found to be effective in reducing anxiety in children and

adolescents. It has helped hundreds of children experiencing social anxiety, shyness, separation anxiety, phobias and general worries.

BRAVE Self-Help is now available to use at home for free due to the support of beyondblue. Any Australian young people who

would like help with anxiety can access the self-help program via https://brave4you.psy.uq.edu.au/ The program can be accessed

through any computer or tablet device, at any time and includes up to 10 sessions for youth. Parents can also take part in a separate
