Today, I would like to talk and with you all on a very important topic that

is health is wealth. If you sit much of the time, for most of the days and

months, you are like a fish that does not swim and a bird that does not

Fly. If this goes on, naturally the lazy fish and bird will not live healthy,

And neither will all of us.

Long time ago, our great ,great grandparents kept strong and fit in their

livelihood by hunting and farming, which included ploughing, planting,

harvesting, this was their way of keeping fit and exercising.. Today, most

People suffer from all different kind of diseases like high blood pressure,

Gout, heart attack and stress-related disease which cost this country

billions of rands. People should now stop eating and sleeping like there is

no tomorrow, and take on some exercises.

On the 25th of May 2012, NMH launched the integrated wellness and Healthy lifestyle programme which is

the brain child of Dr S. Dhlomo, our beloved MEC, different stakeholders such as DSD, DCS, SAPS. Ama-

juba health district, GEMS, Newcastle provincial hospital, Local business people, Aerobic teams and the

Emadlangeni Local Municipality (Mayor J. Zikhali) took part on such a successful launch. I would like to

thank the staff of Niemeyer Memorial Hospital for their continuous support and contribution to any event.

Health is a complex issue which requires all of us to work as a team in order to be able to service our clients

(Patients) with dignity, respect and empathy.. The fight against TB, HIV &AIDS pneumonia, cancer, meningi-

tis and other life threatening illnesses or deceases is still on, and we ought to work together in order to tri-

umph.

Patients waiting times has improved drastically in the following areas, OPD , Admitting dept, and pharmacy,

this achievement doesn't allow us to be complacent but requires us to strive towards continuous improvement.

On MMC and HCT the hospital has noted the slight improvement when compared to the previous months; I

would like to edge the different PHC teams to intensify their outreach campaigns in the far to reach areas such

as farms and Kwandlamlenze.

Female ward is currently enjoying some renovations, this situation cajoled us to reshuffle the wards, and we

therefore request staff, patients and relatives to bear with us on the aforementioned reshuffling. Maternity and

male ward will also be renovated as soon as female ward is completed.

Several appointments were made in the past three months, and we have noted with jubilee that most internal

and local people were appointed in the lower level posts which require only matric without experience. We

are doing this because of the call that was made by his Excellency Dr Jacob Zuma on his state of the nation

address when he iterated about job creation amongst our youth.

The previous financial year budget 2011/2012 was 39 000 000 for Niemeyer Memorial Hospital, by the end of

the financial year we were at 99% spending and we did under spend by only 1% this is by far a tremendous

achievement and thanks to the finance department for a job well done.

Lastly let us all do our utmost best in caring for our patients and each other because “SIYADZINGANA” as

health ambassadors. To our doctors and nurses, especially in maternity and theatre, THE MINISTER SAYS,

I QUOTE “NO WOMAN SHOULD DIE WHILE GIVING LIFE / BIRTH”.

Our campaign to address this will include major interventions, but not limited to the following:

• Strengthening access to a wide range of sexual healthy services, especially family planning

• Promotion of early antenatal care attendance and booking

• Establishment of maternity waiting homes where necessary

• Strengthening Human Resources for Maternal and Child Health through training

• Promotion of breast-feeding, as a baby friendly hospital

• Intensifying efforts to manage HIV positive mothers and children through improved access to treat-

ment and management of coinfections

• Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV.

Till we meet again

Thank you!

Inkosi yakwa Khumalo, Amajuba Mayor: Mrs Jabu Khumalo, Madlangeni Mayor: Mr Joe Zikhali

We visited one school around Utrecht (Emxhakeni Primary school) to plant trees, the slogan of the day was “One child, one fruit tree”. Our mayor of Madlangeni planted the first fruit-tree and was assisted by Mrs Jabu Khumalo (Amajuba Mayor). We moved to the sport grounds where the community was gathered to receive different speeches from the dignitar-ies that were present. Different departments were present on the day to offer services as they normally do in such events.

ACCESS CONTROL

Mr s. Thwala Head of Security

It was a great day on security Service Dept, when the security officers were consuming their duties, but this was a special day when they do all the thoroughly searching as Op-eration “Sisesha-kwasani” to both private and official vehicles. These are vehicles en-tering and leaving the premises and remind and warn our patients and public about Safety which applies to our institution.

At all times, day and night all vehicles entering or leaving the premises must be regis-tered on the Access control sheet and must have a trip sheet with you before leaving, this is just to check who is authorised to drive the state vehicle and also ask for the driv-ers license.

Security Officers are getting the lecture from their supervisor on Safety and Security Legislation Policies and Procedures of the institution and refresh them on what is ex-pected from them.
