NILMA PRIMARY SCHOOL
Principal Notes
WELCOME BACK
Welcome back to term 3—it is already
shaping up to be packed with lots of
learning experiences for all and lots of
projects to be started.
We have been fortunate to secure the
services of new staff members to Nilma.
STAFFING
Marg DeByl will be working in the
Office on Mondays to support Rachel.
Mr Norman Cottrell will be extending
the instrumental program into the
classroom program for all students on a
weekly basis. Mrs Jessie McLennan and
Mrs Leanne Hodge will be supporting
the grounds designs in supporting the
beautification of our grounds and
commencing the school gardens program
and Artist in
schools
programs.
Mr. Lindsay
Bovill—a new
teacher will be
working along
side our other
fantastic
specialists on
Thursdays to bring a new face to our
Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) sessions. We will put
faces to the names over the coming
weeks. Please drop in and say hello to
new staff members.
PARENT HELPERS in
CLASSROOMS
It is not too late to drop in the slip you
will find on page 5 of this newsletter—to
become an active classroom helper. If
you would like to help and are unable to
commit to it weekly, please come and
speak to staff so we can work on a
solution.
SCHOOL PROGRAMS
This term we will be offering
Gymnastics as part of our Physical and
Sport Education Program (PASE).
Music sessions for all grades will
commence on Wednesdays.
Please find attached to the newsletter a
copy of the new timetable for Term 3.
NEW SCHOOL BUILDINGS
On Monday we hope to have the fencing
around the area behind the new building
to commence the staff room extension.
GARDENS & GROUNDS
There will be some ideas on display in
the staffroom—parents feel free to come
and have a look at the photos and
pictures and also put forward your ideas.
JAPANESE TRIP
Students who attended the information
evening at Darnum primary school in
June—have until next Tuesday to notify
Ms Sutherland of their intention to
travel to Japan. Deposit money will need
to be paid by Friday 27th July.
SWAPMEET FUNDRAISER
Thank you to the parents who worked
tirelessly to get the fundraiser organised
and coordinated so well. While the
weather was not on our side—at least the
forecast rain did not appear until later in
the day! The school raised approximately
$1000 to be put towards equipment we
would otherwise not have at Nilma.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
The next school council meeting will be
held on Tuesday 24th July at 7.00pm at
the school.
All parents are welcome as our
strategic discussion will be about the
many ideas for our school grounds
that parents, students and staff have
suggested.

Expression of interest form We are looking into setting up a school banking system so that kids can learn to manage their own
accounts and learn about saving. The students would receive good interest, no fees and if we do it
through the school, then the school gets a donation back from the bank for the school.
Complete slip below and return to the office by Friday 20th July.

LAUGH @ NILMA
Well done to all those who have been enjoying the Learning Activities Under the Guidance of Home
program (LAUGH). Keep up the good work. The laugh program will begin next week on Monday. Each
student is required to borrow a game, play it at home with family and/or friends and then return it on the
following Monday. Our process for overdue games is as such, if students have had a game for more than two
weeks a late slip will be given to the class teacher who will place it in the school diary to go home to parents, if
students are unable to find game pieces or whole games a note to the class teacher explaining this is required so
teachers can follow it up and a solution can be found. Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep this
program running smoothly.
PARENT HELPERS IN THE CLASSROOMS We would like to make a list of parents who are willing to help in the classroom and days available.
Parents will need to have ‘Working with Childrens Check’ This is free and you can get forms from
the Post Office—it can take a few weeks.

MUSIC NEWS
I have really enjoyed being back today at Nilma PS as the schools music teacher. I previously taught at the school from 2005-2010. This term I will be continuing to offer private lessons in the morning, and then doing whole classes in the afternoons. Private lessons will continue for the following instruments:
Guitar Clarinet Flute Record Songs and produce a CD at the end of term.
A new group will be available for students wanting to develop their skills further on recorder and ukulele. At my other schools this group usually consists of Grade One to Three students. These group lessons will be $4 pw, if paid for the term in advance. Students will need to purchase their own recorder. A school ukulele may be used for lessons until the student is ready to purchase their own. Individual lessons in other instruments will be $12 pw, and two in a group will be $8 pw, again if paid in advance for the term. Payments and all enquiries may be made directly to me, and I will forward you information directly via text message or in person. Thanks, Norman Cottrell.
