STUDENT LEADERS HONORED

The student leaders of Lima Technical

~ College and the Ohio State University

Lima were recognized for their

contributions to campus life and their

personal involvement in their individual organizations

at a dessert reception held at the Old Barn Out Back

Restaurant on Tuesday, May 9. The students were

welcomed by Dr. James Countryman, President of

Lima Technical College, Dr. Garlene Penn, Director of

Enrollment Services, for the Ohio State University

Lima, and Carole Enneking, Coordinator of Student

Programs.

The "EMERGING STUDENT LEADER" awards were

given to Diana Hanlin of BiGLOBAL (OSU) and

Kimberly Nolte (LTC) of SADHA. The

"f?ISTINGUISHED STUDENT LEADER" awards were

bestowed upon Cindy Rammel, Ohio Student

Education Association (OSU), and Gloria Schroeder,

The Challengers (L TC.)

Those organizations that received recogniton for their

outstanding programs were: SOCIAL EVENT, Student

Senate for the May Week Barbecue; EDUCATIONAL

PROGRAM: SME Fall Conference; COMMUNITY

SERVICE PROJECT, SADHA for the Safe Harbor

Project and SME, Work Stations for the handicapped

class at Emerson Elementary School. Honorable

mention went to Friends of the Community/Human

Services Club for their T-Shirt project; Student Senate

Community Service Projects; and PTA, donating

funds from a drawing to help a young stroke victim.

CONGRATULATIONS to ALL of our Student

Organizations and their members. Your enthusiam,

leadership and commitment represent the spirit of our

campus.

"BREAK THE SILENCE" WEEK ACTIVITIES INCREASE ABUSE

AWARENESS

"BREAK THE SILENCE WEEK" (May 15-18)

encourages the victims of abuse, both

physical and sexual, to speak out. Only by

bringing these events 6ut in the open and

confronting the enormity of this issue, will

this vicious cycle of abuse be broken. The

Office of Student Services will sponsor a

week full of activities designed to inform and

educate our campus population.

The video, "TWO MILLION WOMEN", will be

shown in GA124 from 12:30-2:00 and on

Tuesday, May 16 in GA 125 form 1 :00-3:00.

On Wednesday, May 17 there will be a panel

discussion on "DOMESTIC VIOLENCE" in

GA 125 from 1 :00-3:00. Panel members

who will facilitate the discussion will be

Donna Kauffman, Rochelle Twining, and

Wilbert Murrell. On Thursday, from 3-5 in

GA 125, there will be a second panel

discussion on "DOMESTIC VIOLENCE" with

Grace Banachowski, David Voth, Lyn

Wibbler, and Sheila Cunningham.

During the week "THE CLOTHESLINE

PROJECT", a visual display of T-Shirts

designed by victims of abuse will be on view

in the Courtyard from 9-5.

STUDENT ORGANIZATION NOTES

PSYCH CLUB SCHEDULES SPEAKER - On Thursday, May 18, the Psychology Club will welcome Dr. Malloy from the Psychology Department at Wright State University. Dr. Malloy will describe the Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.) program. This meeting will be held in the Psychology Lab (GA 135) at noon. The Club extends an open invitation to all who are interested to attend this lecture.

DRAWING DATE NEARS - Be sure to get your tickets for the Friends of the Community/Human Services Club Drawing to be held on May 25. Tickets are $1.00 each and are available from any Club member. First prize is a one night Getaway and Dinner at the Lima Holiday Inn. The hotel has an indoor pool, jacuzzi spa, and workout room. There are lots of other great prizes including gift certificates and free dinners. All proceeds will benefit the Cheryl Allen Southside Center. The Club will have a Sales Table in Galvin basement from 9:30-3:00 on Monday, May 15.

The awards ceremony will take place at 3:00. Over $200 ·in prize money will be given to this year's top winners. You still have time to enter. Bring your art works to Reed Hall Room 160 from 2-4 on Wednesday, May 17. This year's Juror is Greg Luginbuhl, Professor of Artcat Bluffton College. The exhibit will continue through June 4.

SILVER STREAKS COMING BACK - Get your tickets now for the SECOND ANNUAL WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT to be held on Wednesday, May 24 at 7:00 pm in the Cook Hall Gymnaium. This year's battle pitches the Silver Streaks, a wheelchair basketball team from Toledo, against our OSU/LTC Barons team and members of the Lima Police Department. The Silver Streaks have won seven medals in the Wheelchair Olympics. Admission is $1.00 for adults and .50 for children under 12.

AITENTION OSU PRE-MED STUDENTS -Take this opportunity to hear Tom Davenport from the OSU College of Arts and Sciences present a PRE-MED WORKSHOP on Wednesday, May 24 from 2:00-5:00 in PS 107. Sports Teams CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR

SPRING SPORTS TEAMS

As the varsity sports season comes to a close the campus says "Thanks" for a job well done.

The Men's and Women's Tennis Teams · each finished with a strong 3rd place in

the Conference. Hats off to Jaylene Evans who finished #1 Women's Singles champion and to Missy Siebeneck and Kare Kemmere who were 1st place women's doubles champions.

The Barons Baseball T earn finished with a 9-3 standing in the ORCC which gave them a second place in the Conference. They finished with an 11-15 record overall . The first round of the State Tournament was played over this past weekend. (Results next week.)

The Golf T earn faced some tough competition, yet finished the season in 7th place in the Conference.

Recreation

OPEN VOLLEYBALL TUESDAY - Tuesdays from 11 -2 in the Gym is Volleyball Day. Work off that "mid-term" stress with a friendly game.

WEIGHT ROOM OPEN DAILY - The Weight Room is open daily from 10-2.
