• Purpose: Ongoing use in systems that assist providers or professional coders

• May 2012: From 8,334 codes (~90% of use based on 2009 CMS data)

• Purpose: Aid for one-time transition to use of SNOMED CT in problem list

• 4/2012 - IHTSDO and Global Medical Device

Nomenclature (GMDN) Agency sign agreement• GMDN to form basis of expanded medical device component

of SNOMED CT• Initial content (not fully modeled) to be released initially in an

extension to SNOMED CT in 8/2012• Active GMDN concepts, excluding in vitro diagnostics

Upcoming SNOMED CT Expansion - Dentistry

• 5/2012 - IHTSDO and American Dental Association

sign agreement• All novel (non-SNOMED CT) content in SNODENT to be

submitted for inclusion in SNOMED CT via NLM• Any not suitable for international release will remain US extension

to SNOMED CT• Initial additions to appear in July 2012 release of SNOMED CT

• IHTSDO to form Dental SIG, initial chair to be nominated by President of ADA
