THIS WEEK’S GAMEThe Northern Michigan football team looks to end its two-game losing streak as the Wildcats host Grand Valley State at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 8) at the Superior Dome. NMU is 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. GVSU is, surprisingly, 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the GLIAC.

SERIES HISTORYThe Lakers lead the all-time series, dating back to 1975, 18-16-1. Recently, Grand Valley has won 10 straight meetings. The last NMU win over Grand Valley was in 2000. NMU is 10-7 against the Lakers in Marquette.

LAST MEETINGThe two teams met in Allendale, Mich. in 2010. The Lakers were ranked No.1 in the nation and defeated the ‘Cats 28-7. NMU’s lone touchdown came in the third quarter on a rush by John Privitelli. GVSU scored two TDs in the first quarter and added scores in the second and fourth.

COACH BERNIE ANDERSONHead coach Bernie Anderson is in his sixth season at NMU. Anderson is 24-32 at NMU and 117-128 in his 24 years as a head coach. Anderson is 0-5 against Grand Valley.

DEFENSIVE LEADERSZach Anderson and Josh Droese lead the ‘Cats with 36 total tackles each. Anderson leads the team with six tackles-for-loss and three sacks. Matt Forward (27), Robert Edmonds (26) and Junior Michel (25) also have over 20 tackles. Anthony Mariettie and Jacob Lehman each have two interceptions.

‘CATS IN THE DOMEThe ‘Cats are 2-1 in the Superior Dome this season. NMU is 9-4 in it’s last 13 games in the Dome.

THIS-N-THATPrince Young leads the ‘Cats rushing attack with 332 yards. NMU has scored first in all games except last week against Wayne State. The NMU offense is 88 percent in the redzone (14-16) and 42 percent on third down conversion. Rockne Belmonte has made 6-of-7 field goals this season.

BANDS UNITEThe Grand Valley State marching band will make an appearance at the Superior Dome this weekend. The band takes one road trip each year to an opposing university. The GVSU band will perform at halftime on the field before the NMU marching band.
