Today will start off the push towards World Water Day on Thursday March 22nd and we are hoping that other schools too will follow our ex-ample. I am looking forward to meeting with Class Reps next Thursday at the Coffee Morning. We will be discussing general issues and ideas suggested by you about the running of the school and I hope to feed back to you soon afterwards about what was discussed. CYCLE SLAM Between April 23rd and May 18th 2012, England rugby international and World Cup winner Lawrence Dallaglio and England cricketing legend Andrew 'Freddie'Flintoff (plus a few other diehards) will under-take the ride of their lives, cycling almost 3000km from the ancient birthplace of the Olympic Games, Olympia in Greece to the Olympic Park in London. I will be joining them on the first stage from Olympia to Bari in Italy, a distance of 521km. We are all undertaking this massive challenge in order to support 3 fantastic charities - Firstly, the Dallaglio Foundation is supporting Cancer Research UK's cutting edge project on prostate cancer genetics that will help to build a new era of personalised medicine. Secondly, the AF Founda-tion, set up by Andrew and Rachael Flintoff, is a children's charity raising funds to build, develop and improve Child Rehabilitation & Physiotherapy Units throughout the UK. Thirdly, a proportion of all do-nations will be made to the not-for-profit foundation Virgin Unite to support their programmes helping young people in the UK to increase their employability and entrepreneurialism. I know you are all tapped up far too often to support various charitable causes (and mid-life crises), but the first Cycle Slam 2 years ago raised £1m and we are aiming to double overall donations this time around - sums this large really do make a massive difference to the charities involved. Please click on the attached link to sponsor me - thanks in advance for your support!! Mark Whitehead http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProf

Year 6 match report - Kew College vs. St James’s Yesterday Year 6, with help from Pat and George, played a nerve racking match versus St James’s. Sadly they scored the first try but we bounced back when I who was scrum half passed to Pat, fly half, and then he passed to Oisin who was centre. He sprinted down the pitch and finished with a skilful try. The score was 5 - 5 at the break. The second half began by me passing to Luke, who passed it to Amar and he scored a great try. Sadly, St James’s scored a try to make the score level at 10-10. After some superb sprinting by Huw, Oisin then provided Kew College with a try and excellent team work was displayed by Kew College. At the end of the match the score was 15 - 10 to Kew College and congratulations to us for some great play. Many thanks to Mr Garner, Luke, Pat, Oisin, Huw, Amar, Nick, Ivan, Arty, Ethan and George. Match Report Kew College vs. St James’s - 19th January 2012 We started the match with confidence but got tagged, so it was St James's ball. We then got a few tags but unfortunately not enough, so St James’s scored another try. With some excellent passing from the whole team and some good runs from Edward, Ptolemy and Oliver and great support play by Bennet, Charlie and Raul we managed another few tries to get us to the final score 8 - 7 to Kew College. Well done Year 3 B team ! Louis Y3S

Match Report Kew College vs. Ravenscourt Park - Thursday 26th January On Thursday 26th January, Year 6 B team played against Ravenscourt Park. We took the first centre pass, Ilana passed to Mia ,and she passed to Honor who passed to Gemma. Gemma shot our first goal. When the whistle blew Ilana intercepted the ball and passed it to Gemma who shot our second goal. The sun was shining in our eyes making it hard to see but even so we attempted as many goals as we could. Unfortunately, Honor had a tall player marking her and she prevented her from shooting. When the whistle blew we panted over to have a team talk between ourselves. The game became harder as Ravenscourt Park dodged and intercepted. Then the whistle blew at the end of the last third. After an encouraging talk with Mrs. Tabor, we ran back on. Ravenscourt took the centre pass and they swiftly passed and they shot their first goal. Ilana passed to me and I passed to Gemma who shot our final goal. The end score was 3 - 1 to Kew College. Well done to all the girls who played.

We have been very lucky to have been given 4 tickets to X factor at Wembley on 3rd March at 7.30pm. These tickets are going to be auctioned on Quiz Night, so for those of you coming you will be able to bid on the night – remember to bring your cheque books! We would however, like to open it up to everyone so you can either ask a friend attending to bid for you (remember to give them a maximum!) or you can put your bid in a sealed envelope in the red KCF letterbox – no later than Wednesday 8th February – please put a maximum amount that you want to bid for 4 tickets, your name and contact details and we will monitor bids on the night to include you. All monies from the auction of these tickets will go to Just a Drop. Kew College Summer Fair 16th June 2012 You can help make this year’s fair a great success! If you’d like to get involved in the preparations for the fair, or just give a hand on the day, please let us know. We would welcome any ideas or creative and artistic input! This year, the fair will be linked to the Olympic Games theme. If anyone has any connections with the games in London, please get in touch! You can also contribute by giving a raffle prize or sponsoring a stall. We will be asking each class to contribute a prize for the raffle. We received some wonderful contributions last year which included events tickets, pam-pering hampers etc. Any unwanted Olympic Games tickets would make a great prize! Please contact Imogen Baines ([email protected]) who is coordinating this for us and who can give some guidance if required. If you have a business and would like to run a stall, please contact us asap as places are limited. The school fair is a really fun day for families. The children love it. It is also a great opportunity to raise money for the school’s chosen charity. We will let your class rep know more details at the Class Reps Coffee Morning so you will know what your class will be doing. Thank you in advance for all your support. HOME CAKE SALE FUNDRAISER FOR ‘JUST A DROP’ On Saturday 21st January my friends and I , Suki and Francine held a cake sale outside my house. We asked people who were walking past if they would like to buy a cake and we were able to tell them all about ‘Just a Drop’. We had a great range of cakes, brownies, rice krispies cakes, chocolate chip muffins, cupcakes and chocolate cakes with swirly chocolate icing. We raised £111 for ‘Just a Drop’. Emma 4L

Y6 wonderful Chocolate Surprise recipe by Georgina, Anna-Lucia and Margaux For 22 small cakes Ingredients: 1 egg 6 segments dark chocolate 2 spoons of nutella ¼ packet smarties 75g butter 50g plain flour 25g nesquick 100g sugar (If you would like a tastier cake you can add other chocolate toppings)

Melt chocolate for 1 ½ minutes Mix the ingredients Put into small cake tins Put in oven for 20 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius

On the 13th January Anna-Lucia, Georgina and I wanted to clear our

minds after the Godolphin and Latymer exam, so we decided to make

cakes. We created our own recipe and to our surprise the cakes turned

out surprisingly well. We priced them at 10p each to raise money for

charity. We went to the people in the neighbourhood that I know, chant-

ing: ‘Cakes for sale! 10p each, for charity!’

It was a great success and we sold all 22 of them. Since we were raising

money for charity people gave us more and we ended up with £5.10. It

does not seem a lot but we decided to give it to “Just A Drop”. For £5 a

fresh water tap can be installed in a village. Just imagine clean water

brought into your village instead of walking miles to get dirty water. If

every child here baked and sold cakes think of how many taps we could

buy. So start baking!
