NOTICE - Central Christian Church

Board Meeting -

Congregational Meeting -

Dec 13, 2015

Immediately following

Worship Service

Another Thanksgiving holiday has come and gone. This past Sunday we

decorated our sanctuary with all the trappings and sights of the Advent Season.

The greens are hung, candles are placed in the windows, poinsettias adorn the

chancel, and the advent wreath has been placed with the first candle lit. This is

the first Advent season in our newly remodeled sanctuary and everything looks

beautiful. But do we too quickly move from the Thanksgiving holiday into the Ad-

vent season?

It seems that stores, radio, and television move on from the Thanksgiving

holiday faster and faster. Christmas decorations are put up, advertisements are

airing, for the perfect Christmas gift, long before the Thanksgiving holiday is even

finished. While the Advent season is a wonderful one; full of hope, peace, love,

and anticipation of the coming Christ child, we do not need to forget that giving

thanks for everything we have needs to be more than just a day, it needs to be a

lifetime event. In 2 Corinthians 4:15 we read the verse, “Yes, everything is for

your sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and more people, may increase

thanksgiving, to the glory of God.”

When we remain thankful for everything we have been given our attitudes

change, we can become happier. When we are happy there tends to be the feeling

of spreading that happiness around to others whom we meet. When we are

spreading happiness we show the grace of God that has been given to us and

therefore allowing others to feel that grace and to spread it around themselves. In

our haste to bring forth the Advent season this year, hopefully we do not forget

the feeling of thanksgiving. For as our love, and the grace of God, extends to more

and more people they can offer thanks for all they have.

This is a season of giving thanks to God for the gift of the child born in a

manger. Because of that, we need to keep the thanksgiving spirit alive in all of us

for the entire season and into the New Year. As the New Year dawns, with all its

possibilities and wonders, we are filled with the hope of newness. So this Advent

season keep your hearts full of the hope, peace and love the season brings, but do

not forget the wonderful powers that being thankful for all the gifts God has given

us brings to our lives and to the lives of those we meet. Have a great Advent sea-

son and, of course, a continued Thanksgiving throughout the rest of the year and

beyond.

Many thanks to all the readers, children/leaders, youth, and Advent Candle lighting groups (including those groups that will be lighting the Advent Candles for future ser-vices this season) for the “Hanging of the Greens” service. The Children’s Sunday School class are doing a service project for Christmas. We have adopted some

children from the Angel Tree. The Children will be helping shop for the items and wrap them. If you would

like to help with the service project you can make a cash donation (write Angel Tree on the Memo of your

check) or you can pick up items that are needed: Art Supplies, Hats and Gloves, Board Games, Adult Med

men’s shirts, Women’s Adult Small shirts. These are for children ages 12 to 14.

If you have any questions please contact Joyce Thomas, Children’s Director.

A big “Thank You” to the ladies who made items for the CWF Pie and Cake Sale, and to those

who bought the items. This made $406 to be used in our CWF work.
