We are saddened this week by the loss of two of our long-time members, both of

whom passed away this past Saturday, December 12, 2015.

Don Carlson’s memorial celebration will be here at Central Christian on

Thursday, December 17 at 10:00 am. Reception and visitation will be immediately

following in the Fellowship Hall.

Bob Wray’s services have not been set. As soon as we have any more information

we will be passing it along.

The Invitation at Christmas is to BELIEVE AGAIN.

Each and every year there are special offerings that are taken up periodically. At the time of

Advent, the Christian Church Disciples of Christ, takes up their Christmas offering to help

support the mission of the church throughout our region and the world.

The Word from the church is to Believe in a Deeper Hope that moves beyond the “wrappings” of

Christmas around us. We proclaim a Hope that brings Good News, Joy and Compassion for all

of God’s people. THIS DEEPER HOPE IS MADE REAL IN ALL OF OUR REGIONS AS WE:

•Assist congregations and leaders in claiming their unique mission and ministry, and provide

resources and support.

•Call, commission and ordain new pastors, and support and equip all pastors for their

ministries.

•Revitalize existing congregations and plan for new congregations.

•Connect Regional Disciples to give witness to ministries of justice, hope and compassion.

•Provide camps, conferences and retreats where children and youth find hope and Christ’s love

and a community of faith that embraces “everyone.”

•Make visible the care for all of God’s family through ministries of reconciliation and anti-

racism.

•Call and equip passionate leaders for today’s church.

•Provide pastoral care for clergy and congregations.

Please remember the many different opportunities we have to give and help everyone during

this advent season.

Special Music during the Advent Season

As a church we have had the wonderful privilege to hear local musicians bring their gifts to our

worship services. Under the direction of Mark Bowdidge, our Director of Music, our sanctuary

has been alive with the sounds of strings, brass, percussion, bells, and voices. All of these musi-

cians have been given gifts for tier time and talent. These gifts have come from donations given

during the sale of poinsettias and other special gifts given to our Guest Musician Fund. We

thank everyone that has given to this fund which has allowed us the ability to bring musical

gifts to our worship services on different occasion. It is said that during the Christmas season

that “it is better to give than to receive,” but it has been a great joy to receive the music this

year and we will be able to receive more wonderful music in the years to come thanks to the

generosity given for the Guest Musician Fund.

Crosslines Report for December, 2015

On December 8, food was distributed by volunteers from Central and St. John’s Chapel to 96 needy families repre-

senting 296 individuals. Many thanks to Central members who have donated food and money for Crosslines food

distribution during the past year. Central members who are presently active in Crosslines food distribution on

Central’s Fish Day are: Pat Chapman, Geri Scorcic, Bev Vestal, Dorothy Thurman, and Bob Thurman. We have a

need for one or two more regular participants and one person who would be willing to substitute for a regular par-

ticipant on occasion. Central volunteers work on the second Tuesday of each month from about 8:45 am to about

2:00 pm. The duties primarily involve helping clients shop for food items from Crosslines shelves. If you have

questions,or would like to participate in this distribution of food to needy families, contact Bob Thurman at 887-
