Nobody will tell you about the famous love story of
the two lovers, Romeo and Juliet, lived from the end
of ‘500 and the ‘beginning of ‘600 in our Verona,
but we will reveal you what Shakespeare wanted to
omit... What remained a secret for many of us, is that
Romeo, despite being the scion of the noble family of
the Montecchi, had a real passion for the “Patisserie”.
He spent whole days in a renowned Patisserie in
Verona, which once stood at the heart of the city, to
help the master baker to bake sweet cakes. Then, one
day, there was the encounter with the beautiful Juliet;
few words were enough to let the two youngs fall
in love.
After their famous kiss on the balcony, Romeo,
fascinated by that magic feeling never felt until
that day, decided to go in the laboratory of his
friend, to create a new sweet cake, unique for
its softness and for the scents given off, and
offer it to his loved girl ... That was the first
recipe of our “panettone”, with a shape similar
to that of bread, enriched with raisins and
candied fruit. Now as then, the sentiment shared
by Romeo and by our confectioners, heirs of his
mastery, is the love for good things and the
desire to make happy the ones who will taste
them.
