When I sold everything I owned, packed up a suitcase with a week-and-a-half worth of clothes and moved to India, I knew I had taken quite an unconventional leap. While living and working in India and traveling extensively throughout Asia for the better part of a year, I rarely saw any people of color. I was hopping on $50 flights to other countries and staying in 4 & 5 star hotels and resorts for just under $40 and didn't have a platform to share those tips and travel hacks. At the same time, I started wondering why more people who looked like me, weren't experiencing what I was experiencing––or at the very least––that I hadn't met them yet.

I wanted to create something for the quintessential mover-and-shaker, someone who desired to get out and explore the world beyond all conventionalities.  I wanted them in Nepal. In Bora Bora. In Finland. In Senegal. In Turkey. In Alaska. In Bolivia. In the coolest areas of the countries where they lived.

I want people like you to live and explore unconventionally. I started Travel Noire because I believe that when beautiful design and great content meet, magic happens. We hand select the most amazing curators from the African Diaspora living all over the world and give them the platform to share their love of culture and exploration through tips, tricks, reviews and short pieces––in the hopes that you will hop out of your neighborhood and across one (or a few) of the seven seas.

Design your job to increase mobility. When asking for a needed raise, propose a few months of telecommuting instead. Your boss may likely oblige (if your work can be done remotely) and you have a few months of travel in a country with more a favorable exchange rate, ie: more bang for your buck!

CASE STUDY

Figure out how to apply the skills to something that can be done over the phone or online. For example, if you’re good at design, come up with an online training program that streamlines the design process for large companies.

Maneesh uses specialized software to research search trends on Google. He sends those keywords to native English speakers who write high quality articles about the keywords.
