Every summer a trail of pilgrims lines up to see him, hoping for words of wisdom that will heal their lives. Each chapter of this charming book tells the tale of a pilgrim and his prob- lem. There is a man who is incurably jealous of his wife, the grandmother who never receives thank-you notes from her grandchildren, the war veteran who can't forgive himself for the lives he took. Some learn their lessons from other pilgrims, some from the holy man himself; others find answers from the experience of being on the mountain. The Great Courses: The Aging Brain Thursdays, 9:30-10:15 Aging is associated with subtle declines in some cognitive abilities, but not others. As we age, we become a little more forgetful, get distracted more easily, and can’t process information quite as quickly as we once did. At the same time, however, our knowledge, memory of cognitive skills, emotional processing, and many other aspects of mental life tend to remain stable or even improve with age. Why is that? And is there anything we can do to help our brains age more gracefully? This course answers these questions, and many others. Gardening Group Thursdays, 10-11:30 Members get together to socialize while engaging in activities that are linked to gardening. Please make sure you preregister for gardening by Tuesday of each week so that we have supplies for everyone in attendance.
