Non-Traditional Instruction Days / Virtual School In extended emergency situations, the Superintendent may declare that virtual school be used to provide instruction due to severe inclement weather, pandemics, or other unforeseen circumstances. 1. Teachers must establish Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams for each of their classes within the first week of classes and ensure all students are enrolled and have accessed the virtual classroom. 2. Teachers should download Zoom or Microsoft Teams as specified by the superintendent/designee for faculty communication. 3. Teachers should ensure teachers of exceptional children are included as appropriate (e.g., assigned as an additional instructor) in their virtual classrooms so the required services and accommodations can be provided. 4. Once Virtual School has been declared: a. All teachers must have assignments available for each class in Google Classrooms or Microsoft Teams by 8:30 a.m. each day. (There must be an assignment for every day.) b. Teachers must be available for student questions and feedback between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. c. Teachers may set up virtual instruction via Google Hangouts or Microsoft Teams and may require students to be present/participate during their assigned class period time (only). d. Teachers should provide timely responses to students and feedback on assignments. e. Teachers will continue to enter grades through Infinite Campus on published times and schedules (Academic Calendar). f. Teachers should make use of various instructional tools including virtual field trips, approved apps*, and/ or instructional management systems/portals/websites (e.g, Everyday Math, Journeys, Turnitin, Springboard, iRead, AP Classroom). *Teachers should not assign apps that have not already been used in class as these apps may not be available in the Model’s self-service app store. g. Teacher instructional technology support is available in Microsoft Teams or Google Hangout as directed by the Superintendent/designee. h. Student and teacher technology support is available from 8:30-2:00 p.m. by calling (859) 622-6816 or by emailing [email protected] i. Teachers should be available from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. every Thursday for virtual faculty meetings via Microsoft Teams.
