CURRICULUMNoor Ul Islam Primary School will endeavour to follow most of thedemands of the National Curriculum. This requires that every childshould have a broad and balanced curriculum. The NationalCurriculum for Primary Schools consists of the following subjects:

English, Mathematics, Science (also known as core subjects), ICT,Design & Technology, History, Geography, Art, Religious Educationand Physical Education. Sound Technology is also taught wherechildren learn to use vocal skills through recitation of the Quraanand singing Nasheeds.

The school provides for Human Development lessons from Year 5.This meets the requirements of the Sex Education policy. Parentsare consulted on this and must give permission before the school toteach this to their child. These lessons are taught tactfully andcover only what Islam permits.

The Curriculum policy is available to parents on request from theadministration office.

Special Educational NeedsParents of children identified as having a Special Educational Need(SEN) will be presented with an Individual Educational Plan (IEP),usually from Year 1. This will indicate what is being done to helptheir child. The IEP is regularly reviewed (termly) by the SEN Co-ordinator (SENCO) with input from parents and teachers. Targets

are agreed to ensure progress in the right areas are highlightedand issues are dealt with.

The SEN policy is reviewed annually by the SENCO andHeadteacher. The Board of Governors are informed of issues to dowith SEN. If a pupils needs cannot be met by the school theparents will be informed of this.

English as an Additional LanguagePupils who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL) will begiven support from the teachers. Whilst EAL differs from SEN, the

SENCO and SEN teaching assistant may also have an input here. Itmay be felt that an IEP will be prepared to monitor the childsprogress. Volunteers who have the same first language as the childmay also be approached to help.

AssessmentsRegular assessments are held. Children in Year 2 and Year 6 willalso sit the end of key stage assessments. 9. HOME/SCHOOL

PARTNERSHIPParents and Staff share an active interest in all that the childundertakes. Maintaining and developing high standards occurthrough regular monitoring and so the school has taken thefollowing steps to encourage parental participation in thedevelopment of their child:

1.Parents Teachers Association: We are looking for parents to

form the PTA to help with fund raising, communications andevents. This team will work with school governors to achieve this.

2.Parents' Evening:Two parents evenings take place during theacademic year. The first parents' evening takes place, during themiddle of the academic year and the second towards the end ofthe year.

The school actively encourages comments and suggestions fromparents. There is a suggestion box in the foyer of the school andparents are welcomed to use this.

Parents are expected to co-operate with the School by taking thelead role in the education of their children. This can be partlyaccomplished by ensuring that the child does his/her homework, revision regularly at home.

The school recruits staff that are suitable for the positions theyhold. In most cases we hope teachers will be qualified. The numberof staff employed at the school (including temporary staff) togetherwith a summary of their qualifications is available from theHeadteacher, via the administration office on request.

NeighbourhoodParents are strongly advised to either walk to school or park wellaway from the school building when commuting to school. Parentsmust not congregate outside the school grounds and must respectthe neighbourhood. The school is situated in a residential area andparents are asked to remember this.

Parents found to be causing a disturbance through their driving, parking or behaviour just outside the school risk losing a place for

    their child in school.

We ask you to support us in educating our pupils to lead greenerlives.

    15. Miscellaneous

    Responsibility of teachers

All staff in school, especially teachers, must be highly responsible intheir duties. Teachers do take the place of parents while the child isin school. If your child raises any issues which concern you, youmust seek clarification from a member of staff. Anymisunderstanding can then be dealt with in a professional manner.
