Dear reader,

This is the tale about a company that was founded in

2012. The company is called Nordic Tales and it spins

great tales in all of its creations.

The tale began in a town called Aarhus, more particularly

at a place called Institute for X. Institute for X is a small

area in a small town that has served as a cradle for many

up and coming architects and designers and Institute

for X is commonly referred to as the “eye of the hur-

ricane” in terms of product development. This platform

proved itself to be ideal for the company and therefore

Nordic Tales soon became internationally renowned for

its many creations.

At institute for X an atelier was established during the

summer of 2012, allowing the creation of interior set-

ups. Besides this, the atelier also housed the warehouse

and the office, and at one point no walls was separating

the three.

Winter came and so did snow, and it turned out that the

beloved atelier was extraordinary cold. But sales were

still growing, leaving no time for repairs. One morning a

glass of water was found frozen, and soon the cappuc-

cino machine went on strike – a strike that lasted until

the first bloom of the daffodils.

これは2012年に設立されたある会社の物語です。その会社の名前はNordic

Tales 。「北欧の物語」という意味の名を持つ会社と、その会社が作り出す作品

たち。小さくもキラキラと輝く物語が北欧の国デンマークで紡がれていきます。

デンマークにオーフスという街があるのをご存知でしょうか。この物語はオーフ

スの街にある古い倉庫のような建物から始ります。「Institute for X」と呼ばれ

るその建物は、小さな街の小さなエリアにひっそりと佇んでいます。たくさんの

若い建築家やデザイナーのゆりかごのような存在で、ハリケーンの目と称され

るほど、その場所からたくさんのプロダクトやアイデアが生まれていったとい

います。まさにものづくりのための理想的なプラットフォームで、私たちも育ま

れていきました。程なくしてNordic Talesの作品たちは国境を越えて知られる

ようになりました。

「Institute for X」に私たちのアトリエが誕生したのは、2012年の夏のことで

した。アトリエは作品たちが並ぶインテリア空間でありながら、倉庫やオフィス

としても機能していました。ただしその3つの機能を分ける壁などは一切なく、

全てがひとつにまとまった空間でした。

北欧の長い冬が始まり、雪も降り出しました。私たちの大切なアトリエが途方

もない寒さに覆われた頃、Nordic Talesの作品たちはさらに多くの人から愛

されていました。凍えるアトリエはフル稼働。壊れた暖房の修理をする時間も

ないほどに。 - グラスに残った水が凍っていたある朝からすぐのこと。カプチー

ノメーカーもストライキを起こして停止。それは春の訪れを告げる最初のスイ

センの花が咲く頃まで続いたのでした。

The year is 2016. Nordic Tales has gone through

a shape shift of a transformation and now finds

itself in the back of a Nordic Tales Concept Store in

one of Aarhus’ most dazzling shopping streets. The

concept store is perceived as a laboratory – here

visitors come by and have a chat about this, that

and last but not least, the creations of Nordic Tales.

The visitors are continuously introduced through-

out the development and Nordic Tales is directed

by their expressions of opinion.

Nordic Tales has matured during exhibitions in the

major design- and fashion capitals of Europe. The

many impressions have forever changed the small

company and its creations that now have a scent

of something more.

At this point in time, you’ll still find Nordic Tales at

the European fairs, for example in Paris, but the

attention is also directed to the rest of the world.

Nordic Tales will be celebrating its four year anni-

versary this summer by showcasing its latest crea-

tions in Tokyo.

The development has accelerated in the small

company, heavily assisted by 3D printers, virtual re-

ality and other tools of what was thought reserved

for people of the future. One could say a symbiotic

relation between man and robot has been forged,

a relation enabling 24 hour workflows, fuelled

alone by coffee and liquid plastic.

時は流れて2016年。Nordic Talesのアトリエに変化が起こっていまし

た。慣れ親しんだあの場所に、もうその姿はありません。愛着を深めたア

トリエに別れを告げ、オーフスでとても人気があるショッピング通りの一

画に、コンセプトストアという新しい形を見いだしていました。そこはお

店とオフィスがガラスの壁越しに隣り合う場所。アトリエより研究室とい

う言葉が当てはまるかもしれません。オフィスで作品を生み出し、お店に

並べ、訪れた人々の反応をそっと観察するのです。時にはあれこれ意見を

交わすこともあります。たわいもない世間話も交えながら。訪問者の反応

全てが、作品たちを進化させる為の観察結果として記録されていきます。

Nordic Talesはヨーロッパ内の展示会を数々経験し、今の姿にまで成長

していきました。デザインとファッションの最先端をゆく地で得たたくさ

んの刺激は、小さな会社とその作品たちを絶え間なく変化させました。今

年も控えたパリでの展示会では、いったいどんな新しい発見に出会える

でしょうか。そして今、未だ見ぬ何かが起こりそうな胸騒ぎがしています。

さぁヨーロッパを飛び出すときが来たようです。さらなる広い世界を知る

旅が始ります。最初の目的地は日本です。この夏、Nordic Talesは新しい

作品たちと共に東京の展示会に初参加します。記念すべき4度目の夏は、

北欧の国から遥か遠い、日本で迎えることになります。

小さな会社の成長が加速した背景には、3Dプリンター、バーチャルリア

リティなど、今よりもっと先の未来で愛用されるはずだったツールたちの

登場がありました。それら未来のツールは私たちの優秀なアシスタントと

なり、いまも大いに活躍してくれています。 - 人間とロボットが共に働き

築く関係。コーヒーと液体樹脂だけがそれぞれの燃料となり、24時間の

稼働を可能にしていました。

Chapter 2

Symbios i sa play with elements

In a not so distant future, Nordic Tales will be revealing

the result of a collaboration with one of the greatest

entrepreneurs in Denmark. This will break the bounda-

ries that have been defining Nordic Tales since the first

– now so distant - footsteps. This collaboration will blow

wind in the sails of what is believed to be Nordic Tales’

yet greatest adventure.

When brought to completion, the collaboration is

thought to define the moment between two paradigms

in Nordic Tales, which once again is taking the shape of

something new.

Nordic Tales is facing its most exciting time of its short

history. New agreements have been sealed around Eu-

rope and the sales are yet growing, breathing life into

the lungs of new creations. Many news designs are ex-

pected to see the light of day in the fifth year of the

Nordic Tales Journey.

そう遠くない未来の話。じっくりと温め続けてきたプロジェクトがベールを脱

ぐことになります。それはデンマークでいま最も勢いのある起業家のひとりで

ある人物とのコラボレーション。このプロジェクトはNordic Talesが今まで

持っていた可能性を大きく押し広げてくれるきっかけとなり、私たちの大冒険

の追い風となってくれるに違いありません。お披露目のファンファーレが鳴り

響く瞬間は、もうすぐ側まできているようです。

このコラボレーションが完成を迎えた時、Nordic Talesの新たなステージが

幕を開け、私たちの物語はまたそのページ数を増やしていくことでしょう。

まだまだ歴史の浅い私たちですが、その中でもいちばんと言っていいほどワク

ワクと心弾むときを迎えています。ヨーロッパのある国でまた新しい出会いが

ありました。作品たちは新天地へ向かう旅支度をしています。今もこれからも

私たちの歩みは止まることなく、着々と作品たちに命を吹き込み続けます。も

うすぐNordic Tales５年目の冒険が始ります。その旅の途中、またたくさんの

新しい作品たちが誕生していくでしょう。そして新たなエピソードとして、私た

ちの物語の中に紡がれていくのです。
