2/ FRAME INSTALLATION, LEVELLING,AND SHUTTERING (Fig. b)

��Lower frame into the rebateCorrectly position the frame over the clear ope-ning of the chamber (the frame should not pro-trude over the clear opening).

��Put the frame at the correct level using appropriate wedges (e.g. suspend with a beam).

��Shutter the gap.

��For large, light-weight frames (e.g. mild steelwelded construction, Class B 125, C 250 oraccess covers with machined surfaces) install thecovers, check they fit properly and do not rock. If necessary, correct the fitting and leave in placewhilst fixing.

There is no standard or absolute guide concerning the access covers and frames fixing instructions. Theseinstructions are intended to assist the work of the companyresponsible for installation. They are general informationand apply to situations which present no particular difficulties.

1/ REBATE (Fig. a)

��Prepare a rebate corresponding to the dimen-sions shown on fig. a.

��Clean to the solid concrete without cracks at the formation.

��Clean the rebate surfaces to eliminate any dust, mud or grease.

NORINCO® advises that these installation recommendations are only given for information and the companyinstalling access covers and frames is totally responsible.

3/ FIXING (Fig. c)

��Prepare the fixing material according to the sup-plier's specification. A quick-setting non shrinkingconcrete is recommended if normal curing time forstandard concrete cannot be secured. Minimum 7days.

��Pack up the concrete under frame (concrete mustcome up along the shuttering).

��The frame bearing area shall bear all of its surfaceon the fixing material to ensure an even distributionof the traffic loads.

��Fill up the rebate unless a finishing layer of asphalt is specified, in which case a 20 mm depth must beleft unfilled.

��Cover filled rebate with wet canvas or tarpaulin andallow concrete to cure before reopening to traffic.

What is SG cast iron ?

Spheroïdal graphite cast iron is better known as ductile cast iron or SG cast iron. Due to the addition of magnesium

to the cast iron, the graphite which is present in flake form is transformed into spheroids.

This process provides remarkable features, such as resistance to breakage, better shock resistance

and a high modulus of elasticity.

SG cast iron compared to grey iron:

The exceptional ratio of weight/mechanical strength of SG cast iron allows the manufacture of access covers

with weights 20 to 30 % lower than the same access covers manufactured in grey iron.

Therefore, cost of transport can be reduced and cover handling is achieved with lower risk of injury.

Also due to the strength of SG cast iron large one piece frames can be manufactured i.e. monobloc construction

(this is not possible with grey iron).
