GLOBAL PV MARKETS: ALL EYES ON ASIA
SummaryAccording to analysts, Asia isexpected to be the global PVcenter for both production anddeployment in the foreseeablefuture. Since 2013 Asia isresponsible for roughly 50%of the total global demand.Main drivers are e.g. lowprices for PV systems, surgingpower consumption, agrowing sense concerningenvironmental pollution whynational support policiesencourage the deployment ofPV across Asia. Presentationswill feature legislativelandscapes, opportunities, andan outlook in terms of marketdevelopment in theforeseeable future in selectedcountries such as Japan, Chinaand India.

GLOBAL PV MARKETS: THE NEW PV DESTINATION – SOUTH-CENTRAL AMERICA
SummaryThe South-Central Americanregion is home to severalpromising markets, e.g. Chile,Brazil and Mexico. Due tohigh level of solar radiations, thriving local industriescausing surging powerconsumption and high pricesfor traditional fuels haveturned solar PV systems intoa financially viable and thusattractive alternative are themain reasons why respectivegovernments have formulatedcorresponding supportpolicies. Representatives fromthe region will share theirviews regarding the emergingopportunities and theexpected long term marketperspectives.

PANEL: GLOBAL PV MARKETS: PERFORMANCE AT ITS BEST – NORTH AMERICA
SummaryIn 2014 the U.S. again wasthe third largest marketworldwide. Main drivers forongoing growth include thesolar lease, an acceleration ofdemand for community solargardens and the FederalInvestment Tax Credit (ITC).Planned changes to the ITCafter the end of 2016 areencouraging accelerateddeployment in the US, whichis in turn encouraging arenaissance crystalline andthin film manufacturing. Inother North America markets, deployment in Canada hascontinued to be steadydespite changes to itsincentives.

THE OUTLOOK FOR NEW VERY LARGE SOLAR PLANTS IN CALIFORNIA
SummaryCalifornia has great solaraccess and very large PVplants. Now, the best sites aregone, the 33% RPS is beingmet, the ITC will expire, transmission lines are poor, interconnection is difficult andthere is environmentalresistance. But there arepositives too: solar cost willdrop, the price of CO2 will rise,PV plants are faster and easierto build and need much lesswater than alternatives. Joinus to learn the prospects fornew large solar plants inCalifornia.

WORKING WITH MANY JURISDICTIONS: WHAT CAN BE DONE TO EASE THE PAIN?
SummaryInstallers waste time andmoney working in manyjurisdictions (AHJs). Someimpose a far more onerousand costly process thanothers. Installers mustmaintain extensive per-AHJexpertise, and there are over60 different AHJs in the SF BayArea! California passed AB1801 and SB 1222 (2012) tocap permitting fees, and AB2188 (2014) to streamlinepermitting. Summary Power electronic circuits are the link between solar modules and the utility grid or off-gridloads. The circuits must fulfill many requirements such as high efficiency, high reliabilityand low costs. The seminar gives an overview on the most commonly used powerelectronic circuits. It starts with low power applications such as active bypass diodes, maximizers and micro inverters. Then battery charging circuits and off-grid inverters arepresented. A large part is dedicated to grid-connected applications, where single- andthree-phase inverter circuits are presented. Dos and don'ts in PV are explained in achapter on the interactions between modules and inverters. The aspects of grid integrationand inverter testing and certification will be discussed in additional presentations.

MARKET OPPORTUNITIES AND TRENDS FOR SOLAR HEATING AND COOLING TECHNOLOGIES
SummaryNatural gas prices continue tobe unnaturally low as demandstill hasn't risen to meet supply.Low module prices are openingnew markets for PV whichcompete directly withtraditional solar heatingtechnologies. The 30% federaltax incentive is still scheduledto expire at the end of 2016,but California and othermarkets are improvingincentives to encourage solarthermal. Summary This workshop will educate designers, developers, installers and suppliers of behind-the-meterbattery energy storage systems about safety-related issues relating to such systems. There is arush to deploy lithium-ion battery systems in order to store solar energy generated on therooftops of residential, commercial and industrial properties. But lithium-ion batteries can bevolatile and the industry is just one disaster away from having a serious problem. Make sureyou know how to answer customer questions about the safety of lithium-ion batteries. Learnabout the growing body of regulations and guidance concerning proper design and deploymentof battery systems in residential, commercial and industrial properties. Make sure your systemis the solution to problems, not the cause of them. Attending this workshop will help.

Summary Many solar industry personnel have a school-age child or know one. Odds are they havebeen asked to give presentation at the local k12 school. Most can talk about their role inthe industry, but are ill prepared to conduct a lesson that engages ~30 students. SolarSchoolhouse will provide tips on how to energize a classroom presentation.
Summary This is not your typical conference experience. CALSEIA's Contractor Day offers an all-dayall-inclusive package deal for solar contractors with separate workshop tracks designedfor both sales and installation teams. Participants can choose from up to seven workshopsfeaturing such hot topics as storage and permitting as well as a rare “face offs” betweendifferent racking and inverter products to help you choose what's best for you and yourcompany.
CALSEIA's executive director and policy director will spend an hour with attendees in anopen Q&A format over a catered lunch and attendees will receive a full-day pass toIntersolar's Expo Hall featuring more than 500 exhibits. Last but not least, attendeesreceive a complimentary pass to Intersolar & CALSEIA's after-party, Solar Summerfest, with excellent food, open bar, and great networking. This is an incredible deal!

Tour of Solar Wineries (Napa Valley)
Time 9:00am–5:00pm
Meeting Point Lobby Intercontinental Hotel, at 8:45am
Napa Valley is home to hundreds of wineries that produce some
of the world's best wines. Napa's reputation was originally built
on the merits of its Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, but
now many other grapes call the valley home and thrive in its
fertile soils. An average size winery may use thousands of dollars
per month worth of electricity during the peak harvesting season.
But just as the weather is perfect for grapes, it's also perfect for
solar panels, and many wineries are taking advantage of the
recent rapid drop in the cost of solar to power their operations
economically as well as sustainably. Join us for a tour of selected
solar-powered wineries in Napa Valley! All charges for wine
tasting are included in the price. Lunch is not included, but a
menu will be provided in advance and the tour will stop for lunch
in Napa Valley. All proceeds generated from this tour help support
NorCal Solar's local, nonprofit, consumer education efforts in
Northern California.
