Thanks to everyone who has sent in nominations for

welcome so that I have time to order the awards
and send out letters to everyone involved!
The Awards Evening is at the Hardwick Hall Hotel,
Sedgefield TS21 2EH at 7.00pm on Saturday,
February 18th. Tickets are £27 to include a three
course Dinner.
Menu details and a form to order meals has been
circulated by email and a further copy will be sent
to Clubs shortly.
We often Congratulate gymnasts in NEGA News but we
also have some very good news from Coaches ……..
Karl Wharton MBE - Elected to the FIG Acrobatics
Technical Committee
Brian Everett MBE – Elected as President of British
Gymnastics
Sam, Hannah, Abbie and Lesley from City of Newcastle –
Successfully passing their Level 4 Coaching Award
recently. An excellent result! HPC next!!
And also….
Les Hodgson, on achieving his full Level 3 Performance
Coach qualification. It has taken Les four years of work,
study and training with visits to Rotherham, Durham,
South Tyneside, Newcastle, BG HQ at Lilleshall and also
to Edinburgh.
During that time, he has worked with some of the most
qualified coaches in England and Scotland, including the
National Commonwealth Games Scottish team coach,
Sandy Richardson, shown below with Les and gymnasts
at Sandy’s amazing school gym facility in Scotland.
Les has undertaken this long task in his own time
alongside the many hours he works in, and for, the club
every week, wholly as a volunteer.
Huge thanks go to all the gymnasts who have attended
the training with Les, and worked with him in the club;
without their help this would not have been possible.
Congratulations to Les from everyone at Northern GC.
For those of you working on Level 3…..the next Theory
Module is at Sheffield Hallam University on the 10th &
11th June 2017. Details on BG web site.

CHANGES to JUDGING COURSES
As you may be aware, from January 2017 all club, regional and
national judging courses will be organised by British Gymnastics,
following the same processes and procedures for coach education.
We are committed to working towards a standardised framework for
the delivery of judge education courses and the costs for learners will
be consistent across the regions and has been standardised to £50
per day, (e.g. 2-day course is £100). The enrolment process will be
the same as the coaching courses, using our Find a Course and online
payment facilities.
To help implement the programme we now have a dedicated Judge
Education team in place, working in close collaboration with our team
in each region to ensure these changes occur efficiently. All judging
courses will be based within a classroom environment so that each
learner receives the same high quality learning experience.
We will be working very closely with our discipline-specific judge
education representatives over the next few months to ensure a
smooth transition of logistics and course organisation, including
ensuring tutors are suitably equipped to start delivery throughout
2017.
The order of roll-out for all disciplines (apart from Team Gym which
follows the UEG timescale) is as follows:
BG National courses (February – April 2017)
BG Regional, County and Club courses (April 2017) onwards
If you are currently a judge in any discipline, other than Floor
and Vault Level 1 and Floor and Vault Level 2 you will need to
attend a course in 2017 in order to re-validate and maintain
your judging qualification.
FUNDING from BG – from Kate Davies
“Make a Difference” programme, is perfectly suited to
club’s who would like to recruit and train new welfare
officers. Club’s need to run a small recruitment drive at
their club. BG supply all the resources completely free of
charge; post presentation they can apply for funding to
upskill their new volunteers. Alternatively, if they have
recently recruited new volunteers the club can still apply
for funding without running the presentation. Here is the

From Geoff
Grant at BG
V-Inspired – This organisation works with young people
up to 25, and can be utilised as a means to recruit
volunteers, or to advertise as an avenue perhaps for
Regional involvement at a committee level? This is also a
good avenue for existing academies to look at a project
or seek some funding through their V-Cashpoint
initiative. This is also a good point where young leaders
can log their hours and gain some recognition for their
time. https://vinspired.com/
Do-it.org – This site links through to different options
that are available. This might be useful for clubs as well
as young people and for yourselves. There is also a site
where you can look for someone with certain skills that
you may need on a free-basis, so collectively some useful
resources here. http://doittrust.org/
Join-In & Big Thank You – Join In is a national website to
link volunteers in sport with opportunities. Clubs can
build a profile, advertise and it can be used for Events
also. The link below also gives information regarding
their Big Thank You initiative, which is timed to recognise
volunteers in line with the Sports Personality of the Year
event, and as an initiative scheduled for 18th December
2016. Anyone can nominate, and anyone can access this,
so it is a good one to use.

thank-you-call/
Finally, I also attach a link to some good guidance
information around Volunteering that Sport England
provide, which can be a really good source of generic
information for any and all volunteers. This is below:

For anything where we can help, please just drop us a
note to [email protected] and we will
be happy to help.
LEVEL 3 Coaching Modules All coaches are now
required to be assessed within a two-year window. This
applies whether or not the coach intends to take Level 3
skills into competition. The cost will increase to £100
including the sign off fee. Coaches are responsible for
contacting an assessor to
arrange sign off.
From British Gymnastics Volunteers
Kelly has sent in this report from SOUTH DURHAM
GYMNASTICS CLUB…..
October 2016
Congratulations to South Durham Gymnastics Club who
were crowned overall Team Champions at the recent
North Voluntary Levels Team Finals as well as being
crowned champions in Level 6, 4 & 3 respectively.
November 2016
Congratulations to Mercedes Moore & Josie Kwok from
South Durham who have been invited to be part of the
British Gymnastics Performance Pathway squad for 2017
following their outstanding results at the National
Voluntary Levels in November. Team mates Ellie, Isobel
and Mia also competed brilliantly at these
championships.
December 2016
More amazing results for the Pink Ladies at the British
Espoir Championships held last weekend in Basildon.
Lydia Collins, Mia Scott and Leah Greenland all
competed brilliantly and their results
reflected their outstanding work.
Lydia finished in 23rd position, Mia in 8th and Leah in
4th in the All-around competition. In the apparatus
finals, the following day Mia competed the bar routine of
her life to take away the Silver medal, confirming her as
one off the top bar workers of her age in the country.
Leah competed in the beam final where she smashed her
routine and again took
away the silver medal
on this apparatus. To
finish what was
already a hugely
successful weekend,
Leah then went on to
take the bronze medal
on the floor.
As a result of their
great performances
Leah Greenland and
Mia Scott have now
been invited to be a
part of the British
Junior Squad for 2017.
A fantastic end to
2016 for the girls and
the club!

made National Squad at 10/Under and they along with
Lucy Aston, Mary Young, Sophie Allen, Lucia Woodhouse
and all the Clubs Tumblers are hoping for more
international experiences in 2017.
Exciting Times for Redcar, Tyneside and Gymtopia NE
Gymnastics Clubs who are all moving into new premises
in 2017.
Club News
GENERAL GYMNASTICS:
The GGTC Partner and Group Challenge Competition is
always popular and this year was no exception. Eight
Clubs took part including Derwent Valley competing at
regional level for the first time. There was some very
good work from all the Clubs and medals were shared.
Well done to all the gymnasts and coaches from
GymWorld, Darlington, Inspired, Northern Hope, Robert
Atkison, DC Gymnastics, Richmondshire, Gateshead TG,
Gymtopian NE, Acklam and Hartlepool Gymnastics Club
who all entered either full teams or Micro teams in the
recent GGTC North TeamGym Competition. The event
was held at Hartlepool GC and many thanks go to all the
coaches and volunteers from the club for all their help.
Thanks also to the judge who worked through a long
day. With 34 micro teams and 12 full teams to judge
that’s well over 200 gymnasts!
Neil from DC wrote ‘We have one team truly ecstatic at
their first participation in competitive Gymnastics, with
medals around the neck, chins held high with broad,
broad grins and parents in various states of tears of
pride. These Gymnasts may not be NDP Tumblers, but
hey, they can compete with pride and joy in Team Gym.
It hits the mark spot on. Well done.
The next event is SPORT for ALL being held at
Richmondshire GC, Catterick on February 26th, Entry
closing date is January 26th. This is a competition for
beginner gymnasts who may not have competed in any
event (other than a school competition) prior to taking
part.
