Miss Julie byAugust Strindbergpresented by UK Touring TheatreBanned in the UK for 50 yearswhen first written, Miss Julieshocked critics across Europe withits frank portrayal of sexuality andinter-class relationships in 19thcentury society. While the servants’ partycontinues in the barn outside, aristocratic Miss Julie is drawn tothe kitchen and to the sociallyambitious Jean, her father’s valet. What starts as a harmlessflirtation soon descends into aferocious power struggle andbattle of the sexes, from whichneither can escape.
