2019 Hilton Head Island ConcoursSubmitted by Dave Kirkman

This year the Hilton Head Island Concours featured several of our club members showing their cars and winning major awards while I had the pleasure of showing Ms. Vera Park, the new exterior designer for Jaguar, around on Saturday morning. John Hoffman and Ivan Ruiz both showed cars on Saturday at the HHI Car Club Showcase. John showed his spectacular Aston Martin and Ivan took the Best European Car Award with his Iso Grifo. Ivan told me that his award, a beautiful crystal decanter, was the best award ever and would soon be filled to the brim with his favorite “beverage”. Even Myrna was pleased with this award and I’ll bet she gets to choose the “beverage”.

Ms. Vera Park is a very pleasant young lady, originally from South Korea prior to going to London and studying automotive design and winning several “First Awards”, had never been to America prior to our meeting on Saturday morning. Her charter is to work on the future design of the Jaguar I-Pace. Vera was extremely interested in the Jaguar E-Types on Saturday and the Jaguar XK’s on Sunday taking pictures and asking questions. She was accompanied by Ms. Amna Qureshi, another delightful young lady from Jaguar Marketing. The Sunday Concours d’ Elegance featured nineteen Jaguar XK’s in four classes. Robert Farris’s XK120 SE DHC took a Palmetto Award in a very strong XK120 Coupe

Class (Ron Gartner’s XK120 Coupe won Best in Class and Best Road and Track Car and competed for Best in Show); Kent and Melissa Hussey’s XK140 MC took best in their class and Roy Cleveland took best in the XK150 Class with his car. Carolyn Sikes won a Palmetto Award with her Corvette and was part of the “Women Driving America” (HHI program to feature women-owned automobiles). Ivan Ruiz also showed his Iso Grifo as a “Display” on Sunday in the Italian Style American Power Class and served as a first-time class judge at HHI.

Next year HHI will be featuring a Jaguar E-Type Class.

Festival of Speed at AvalonSubmitted b yJohn Hoffman

The Festival of Speed was held early in October at Avalon to benefit Children’s Health Care of Atlanta and showcased 150 exotic and vintage cars. Including several owned by NGJC members. At Center Green, James Strickland and Billie Leonard are standing by James’s 1967 Opalescent Silver Blue Jaguar E-Type Convertible that he has owned for 46 years.

They were dressed to reenact Prince Harry and Meghan as they left last year in an exact looking car for The Royal Wedding Reception. Craig Gustin received two awards, for Best European Classic and Most Stylish Classic. Both for his 1967 MK2. He received two nice crystal vases plus two bottles of refreshment. Craig has also owned the MK2 for over 40 years.

Atlanta Concours d’EleganceSubmitted by John Baxa

In its fourth year, the Atlanta Concours was held for the first time at the former Fort McPherson parade field—now part of the Tyler Perry Studio lot. Among the celebrities attending the show, singer and former Miss America Vanessa Williams looked over the Jaguars on exhibit, including NGJC members Glenn and Kathy Michalski’s XK-140 coupe as you can see in the picture.

The Cars of Iconic Black Americans exhibit, curated by Atlanta Concours board member Aaron Spaulding, was designed to highlight the cars of black celebrities and bring new patrons to the hobby. The exhibit included vehicles owned by Muhammad Ali, James Brown, Sam Cooke, Lena Horne and B.B. King among others.

Antique Automobile Club of America for 10 years. Bugg once shared with a local media outlet that he had a Ford from every year between 1927 through 1969, excluding the World War II years. He also owned a few older Fords, with his oldest Ford being a 1912 Ford Model T. Vehicles weren’t limited to Fords and also included notable monikers like those found on the Studebaker Hawk, a Hudson Hornet, a 1947 Frazer, and a 1932 Hudson. In his ownership was also the first car he ever purchased. Bugg owned his 1964 Chevy pickup truck that served as his workhorse when he owned an appliance store. “Some of us were impressed that he cares also for the lowly 4-door sedans that were so common on the roads of yesterday but which are scorned today by so many enthusiasts,” a member from a west Georgia car club noted about his collection.

You can go on a Youtube tour of the Bugg Collection with George himself:https://www.motorious.com/articles/news/378326/george-bugg-dies/
