PENTECOST OFFERINGJune 12, 2011

At Pentecost we celebrate the coming of theHoly Spirit as the bringer of new life. Be-cause of the Spirit’s coming, we no longerhave to depend on ourselves but can knowthe transforming and creative love of Godthat makes the impossible possible. The Pentecost Offering is one of our fourannual churchwide Special Offerings of thePCUSA. Through it, we bring God’s trans-forming love to children at risk. We helpGod and nurture the faith of Presbyterianyoung people, and we equip a new gen-eration of church leader-ship through the PCUSAYouth Adult VolunteerProgram. The 40% of the offeringthat stays in our congre-gation will go to our localFavor House, a familyabuse and protection cen-ter, for their "Paths to Safety" project. This years theme, “So I Send You” (John20:21), reminds us that, as Jesus was sentby God to heal a hurting world, we alsoare called to that task. We are called to acton the basis of our faith.Through our generous gifts to the Pente-cost Offering, we can make tangible, posi-tive changes in our church, our communityand our world.
