NW Ideas: Virtual Classrooms & Global Issues Club I would love to be part of a nonexistence Global & Student Issues Club. But one of the

problems is that nobody cares about Global Issues. One solution I have for that is Google

Classroom. So you go onto the classroom, join the discussion when it’s time, and if other

members aren’t commenting, use the “classmates” feature to email them. Than, the sponsor

teacher or a hand-picked student leads it by bringing up a topic. Other members of the club

discuss and debate it. Than, you can have club members show essay by email them to every-

body. The club would still meet in the sponsor teacher’s classroom every 2 weeks to month,

but if the sponsor teacher is busy, they could leave it up to the students. There would be

rules, such as no swearing. It also uses this new Google Classroom technology, and as every-

body knows, junior high students love using technology. If you wanted, you could have a

teacher supervise it, but it wouldn’t be absolutely necessary. Pros -More flexible times -No snacks needed -Still possible to have without sponsor teacher there -No classroom needed -Uses Technology Cons -No live, face to face, discussion -Unable to do without WIFI or Internet -Only works for discussion clubs

In conclusion, I think this would be a good idea and would rate it 8.3 out of 10. It has very

good Pros and uses technology. The only reason I didn’t give it a 10 out of 10 is because

there is now live discussion.

If you are online, use the Google Form to submit your own ideas. Attach your name, and you

are lucky and get picked, you will get credit for the idea and a story about it in Northwest

Passage.

P.S. If anybody is interested in starting and Global & Student Issues Club, contact

Patrick Taylor at [email protected].

The Seventh Grade STEM Visit

By Jenna Wang

On November 24, the entire seventh grade visited the MERF building located at the University of Iowa for a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Field Trip right in the morning, lasting all the way until lunch. The trip first started out in a large auditorium where special speakers gave the sev-enth graders an important talk about future jobs and the new opportunities out there that could interest them. There, they participated in a fun activity to combine interests into a dream job that could be their job someday. Afterwards, separated into groups, these seventh graders traveled out into the building to do two different fun activities planned just for them.

Below, we discuss a few of the activities:

Fire and Lasers

In this fun activity, seventh graders got to see spaceships launching into the air with fire trailing after their engines and a special inside look into the world of engineers. They participated in special knowledge activities about certain areas around the world and engineering tools to earn different prizes, such as a double-sided screwdriver, mini Frisbees, and small Hawkeye flags. The seventh graders who participated also had an inside look into lasers to what they do and how they are dangerous. They also saw a really huge laser and got to talk to a guy who worked with them. Not only did these students leave with an inside look in spaceships and engi-neers, but they also got to take home their very own laser.

Pig Dissection

In this “interesting” activity, students had the chance to watch a real live pig dissection; the whole body and all! This fateful pig was only five weeks old and was killed eight o'clock that morning of the STEM trip. But it was worth the experience, right? In this experiment, students got to choose what parts they wanted to see, (heart, bladder, esophagus, kidney) and two trained dissectors uncovered a blanket to reveal a pig with its head intact and the whole body

cut open, revealing its “contents” and smell. Even with these factors, students stood up and crowded around the pig as the dissectors pointed out special organs and quizzed students on their organ knowledge. Fact: The small intestine can stretch up to seventeen feet long!

There’s a picture of the pig below **:

** Warning the Picture be-low might not be for everyone.

Slang comparison; the 90’s and now By Emma-Grace Shoppa

Slang is a big part of our culture, sometimes we even develop it into our culture. Slang has changed a lot over time, some of it drastic! Even though it all means the same thing, there have been some weird and interesting changes.

Cool One of the most common words in our language, we have still made tons of slang for it.

Older slang for cool: Tight: “ That sweatshirt is tight!”

Wicked: “ Wow, Mockingjay part 1 was wicked!”

Newer slang for cool: The Bae: “ They’re the bae.” (typically used to describe a person).

An informal way of referring to someone

Most of the time, we refer to our friends by a nickname or some sort of slang that fits this defini-tion (because real names can be too hard).

Older slang

Cat: “ What’s going on cat?”

Dogg (alternative spellings are dawg and dog): “ Going to a movie, wanna come dawg?”

Newer slang

Dude: “ Dude, what the heck?” (was carried over from the 90’s)

Not going to happen

Sometimes we really don’t want to do something, but “not going to happen” is way too long, so of course this is an opportunity for slang.

Older slang

As if!: “ Hey, could you wash my car?” “ As if!”

Newer slang

NECK (also signified as a slap on the neck): “ Do your homework!” “Neck” or *slaps neck*

Page 6: Northwest Passage: The Moustache Issue

Northwest Passage, January 2015

6

House or Home

Friends always invite others to their house, so there needs to be a cooler and simpler way to say it, right?

Older slang

Crib: “ Having a party at the crib, wanna come?”

Newer slang

Place: “ Do you want to come over to my place tonight?”

Bad

Another commonly used word that almost everyone uses, so of course there has to be slang for it. Brutal: “ Man, that was brutal!”

Newer slang

Sucks: “ Gosh, that sucks.”

Okay

A simple word for agreeing with something, so there are lots of opportunities to make some amaz-ing slang for this word. Older slang

Aiight: “ So you're coming to my place, aiight?”

Newer slang

KK (or k): “Is that kk?”

Heavily Country

TV shows have let us experience the country life so we had to make slang especially for this popu-lar topic.

Older slang

Bama: “ Wow he acts like a bama!”

Newer slang

Redneck: “ Do you wanna watch that redneck show tonight?”

Bonus round! This is some of the craziest 90’s slang that I could find!

Oogly: adj. Ugly. “ She is so oogly!” Let’s dip!: v. Let’s leave. “ Come on, let’s dip.”

Atari: adj Used to describe horrid DJ’s “ He’s such an Atari!” Bones: n. Money “ Hey, could I borrow some bones?”

The Figures in My Hallway By Erin Moses

There are many figures in my hallway. This is a true sto-

ry, by the way. The figures go from the Shadow Men to the Stair

Witch. Both my sister and I used to see the figures. Mom

thought we were hallucinating. It all started with the Stair

Witch. We all get the feeling something is chasing us when we are com-

ing up stairs. But when Anna and I went up the stairs, we felt

watched. We would often turn around to see parts of a witch, in

a purple dress and black cloak. My sister would most of the

time see her nose, before she made a speedy break for the top

of the stairs. I sometimes saw her whole face! When I was about seven, and still seeing the Stair Witch,

I spied miniature versions of the witch, on broom sticks, fly-

ing over my curtain railing. I closed my eyes and opened them

again. The witches were gone. A few years later, when I was 11, I stopped seeing the

stair witch. I instead saw swirling black sand in Anna’s door-

way, forming a tall man in a clunky hat, carrying a gun. I

screamed, and then never saw him again. At about the same year, I feared leaving my room, because

of the man behind the open closet door. I saw him once, his

face pressed against the wall, also wearing a hat, and carrying

a gun. I had a similar experience, when a large creature, shaped

like a giant raisin came up on the end of the bed and stared at

me. It soon disappeared. A while later, an exact copy of my

sister with a very long neck appeared in front of my door. The

creature’s neck flopped around, causing the head to go through

the doorway. My sister Anna had an experience similar to mine. An exact

copy of me poked her in the middle of the night. She yelled

some profane words at it, and it made a strange noise, and ran

out. I then began waking up in strange places, like on the

floor of the hall, on the couch, even in my parent’s bedroom! I

had no recollection of sleepwalking. I know this came out

quickly, and I know that it sounds unreal, but I just wanted

you to know about the figures in my hallway.

Black Jaguar

By Patrick Taylor

Chapter 1: The Case in Cupertino

It was a dark and stormy night? Why Couldn't be a sunny day. Don’t be deceived by my nick-

name, Black Jaguar, or my usual black clothing. I love sunlight. I must not lie to you, since

you must know I am no longer involved with the now dissolved group Billionaire’s Spy Ring,

so it’s okay to say my real name is W. Jacob Black, Canadian Billionaire from profits invest-

ments and renewable energy. I was part of a spy ring, who would try to keep other billionaires

from doing bad things. I was in my coastal, bombproof mansion found in a mount in British

Columbia. I got a message on my smartwatch. It said, “ALERT ALERT. Data center has been

hacked. Go to Defence Communication Center immediately. I went up there to see a note on

the screen. It said, “Destroy Billionaire’s Spy Ring or these computers.” Luckily, they just

hacked into a small hard drive storing information about some “Apple is bad memes,” which

a HP employe posted on Twitter. The hack came from Cupertino, California and had the alias

“iCup Technician” thats what an Apple headquarters barista is called! I better call the billion-

aire's club and have a virtual conference. I called the 5 spymaster, The Librarian (Larry Page),

The Chihuahua (Mimi French), The Voyager (Cody Teton), me (The Jaguar), and our leader,

Mark Zuckerberg, (The Selfie). We all got online immediately to talk. Using my Surface tab-

let, we talked about what we should do. We eventually agreed to have me go and break into

Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California. I was disguised as Clifford MacIntosh, the

iCup technician who hacked, I got to the main data center, where I plugged in a USB key,

loaded with a virus. Then the speakers started speaking, “Freeze where you are and surrender

yourself now to the guards.” I saw some armed guards and ran. They fired at me, but I es-

caped. I flew back to my mansion, where I was finally home. Apple didn't attack me again

But somebody else did.

My house is built into a cliff, with a big glass “house” part. Thats where I spent most of my

time. If you would walk back, you would first find a door to the lobby, which led to the mari-

na, where I stored my yacht. It also led to an underground theater. If you keep going on the

passage, you would find an elevator to the data center, observatory and defence command

room. Keep going on the main corridor, you would find a passage, there, if you know which

ways to go, you could get to my safe and bunker. Somebody was running everywhere. Up to

the observatory, down to the bunker, out to the theater, back up to the data center. They had a

Nike symbol on their shirt, along with the words Philip Knight Spy. I was chasing him and

my security force captured him. What was that Nike chairman agent doing here? I personally

interrogated him in my interrogation room. He said he had illegally crossed the Canadian bor-

der to destroy me. We found bombs and smoke screens in his pocket.

Find out what happens to the spy, and the more dramatic the next chapter of Black Jaguar

Rest in Peace, Free Realms.

Background information, according to Wikipedia.com:

Free realms was a massively multiplayer online role playing video game developed by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) set in a fantasy-themed world, named Sacred Grove for the PC, Mac and PlayStation 3. The game was released on April 29, 2009, for the Windows PC. The game restricted free to play up to level 5, although there was access to additional game content via a membership fee. The game allowed the player to fight, interact with other players, and more. It was closed on March 31 2014. SOE stated that they no longer had enough re-sources to maintain so many servers. Shortly after the announcement, a fan community at-tempted to revive Free Realms with SOE's permission. SOE indicated that they won't license any use of the 'beta' of Free Realms or authorize a fan-made server.

Free Realms offered an optional membership for a single player, which allowed for 3 characters to be created per account (plus other benefits such as member-only quests, jobs, and items). Only one character can be played at a time; the game will kick extra active charac-ters. Before FreeRealms was shut down, SOE planned to offer a "family" membership that would allow multiple logins at the same time. Separate to memberships is the Station Cash cur-rency which can be used for premium features across Sony Online Entertainment games (including Free Realms).

It was announced by Sony Online Entertainment on January 24, 2014 that the game will be shut down on March 31, 2014, citing decreasing player numbers.

On March 31, 2014, at

9:00 PM, the game officially shut down. The game website now redirects to Sony Entertain-ment.

As a big fan of this game i was completely shocked that they did this, I put over 5000$

Into the game and i had a lot of (Rare) Virtual Items. I wrote this because i want the free

realms community to live on and make a new game.

Champion Spotlight: Riven, the Exile By: Eebbaa Felema

Hello, readers! Eebbaa again. Last issue I wrote an article explain-

ing basics about League of Legends; this issue article is about the

Champion Riven. First, some lore.

In Noxus, any citizen may rise to power regardless of race, gender,

or social standing - strength is all that matters. It was with committed

faith in this ideal that Riven strove to greatness. She showed early po-

tential as a soldier, forcing herself to master the weight of a long sword

when she was barely its height. She was ruthless and efficient as a war-

rior, but her true strength lay in her conviction. She entered battles with-

out any trace of doubt in her mind: no ethical pause, no fear of death.

Riven became a leader amongst her peers, poster child of the Noxian

spirit. So exceptional was her passion that the High Command recog-

nized her with a black stone rune sword forged and enchanted with

Noxian sorcery. The weapon was heavier than a kite shield and nearly as

broad - perfectly suited to her tastes. Soon after, she was deployed to Io-

nia as part of the Noxian invasion.

What began as war quickly became extermination. Noxian soldiers fol-

lowed the terrifying Zaunite war machines across fields of death. It was-

n't the glorious combat for which Riven trained. She carried out the or-

ders of her superiors, terminating the remnants of a beaten and fractured

Page 11: Northwest Passage: The Moustache Issue

Northwest Passage, January 2015

11

enemy with extreme prejudice. As the invasion continued, it became

clear that the Ionian society would not be reformed, merely eliminated.

During one bitter engagement, Riven's unit became surrounded by Ionian

forces. They called for support as the enemy closed in around them.

What they received instead was a barrage of biochemical terror launched

by Singed. Riven watched as around her Ionian and Noxian alike fell vic-

tim to an unspeakably gruesome fate. She managed to escape the bom-

bardment, though she could not erase the memory. Counted dead by

Noxus, she saw an opportunity to start anew. She shattered her sword,

severing ties with the past, and wandered in self-imposed exile - on a

quest to seek atonement and a way to save the pure Noxian vision in

which she believed. ''There is a place between war and murder in which

our demons lurk.'' Pretty deep, right? Riven is from Noxus, a country known for their noto-

riety and rivalry with Demacia. Riven is mainly a top-lane champion,

with a fairly high difficulty level, even more so if you play her in mid-

lane. You can find Cloud9 builds and game guides for her here. A Build

is the collection of items you can buy in-game that works best for your

champion. Cloud9 is a professional team that plays League competitively

as an eSports team. Riven’s Q, Broken Wings, causes her to dash forward

and attack at the same time, although its mostly used to move. Broken

Wings can be used three times consecutively. Riven’s W, Ki Burst, is an

explosion of runic energy that hurts enemies who are close to Riven, and

stuns them temporarily. Note: neither of these skills are skill shot moves,

so they have no range or way to aim them. You can see how to use these

skills here. Riven’s E is Valor, a skill that envelops her in a shield made

of runic power for 1.5 seconds. Riven has a difficulty of 8 out of 10, so

you shouldn’t attempt playing her unless you have looked at some info

either on the League Wiki, her official page, or on MOBAFire. That’s it

for this issue, readers. Next time, our champion spotlight will be on

Nami, the Tidecaller.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Imagine that you got picked to compete in three dangerous tasks, like fighting a dragon or making it

through a deadly maze. You are young and below the age limit for the competition. You are sure a dead-

ly enemy is after you.

In this book, Harry Potter somehow gets picked to compete in a deadly competition called the Triwizard

Tournament. Nobody knows how he got picked, because he is only 14, but Harry is sure someone wants

him killed. In this book Harry fights dragons, goes through a deadly maze, and battles an old enemy

who comes back to life.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the Harry Potter series or for people who like

fantasy novels. It would be appropriate for all ages.

Reviews:

“This book holds an excellent fantasy novel that really any age can enjoy. I've reread it so much and can

never get over Rowling's genius imagination”

“This book is packed with beautiful imagery, imagination, intricate plotting, intriguing story, satisfying

action, and life-impacting lessons. Some pieces may be too scary or inappropriate for younger children,

but it's so filled with positive messages that kids might be able to get over those parts. It's a magical sto-

ry for anyone”

The Smash Doctor -- How to Smash a 3DS

By Mikail Syed

I’m going to summarize a video for all of you, called How to Smash a Nintendo 3DS by TheSmashDoctor. It starts with the Smash Doctor saying, “Hello, and good day to you, I’m the Smash doctor, today we’ll be smashing a Nintendo 3DS.” Then, in font, it writes How to smash a Nintendo 3DS.”He says, with a hammer in his hand, “Now, before we smash the 3DS, let’s start with it’s predecessors (handheld Nintendo con- soles that came out before the 3DS), yeah?”

On a desk he has a 3DS, made in 2011, Nintendo DS, made in 2005, Gameboy Advance, made in 2000, and the Gameboy made in 1985 (he skipped the Color). He starts with the Gameboy, and explains some general information about it. He smashes it with a hammer, and it was funny. Next up comes the Gameboy Advance. He once again gives information, then uses a bat to smash it into pieces. Then, he touches the touchscreen on the DS. Then he says, “Backwards com-patibilty with the Gameboy Advance!” Then he rubs his cheeks with it and says, “Yeah.” Then they show him say “Touchscreen, yeah, Touchscreen!” He says, “Dude, it got two screens on it!” Then they show him saying “Yeah!” while rubbing it against his cheeks again. He smashes the console after telling us of the DS successors like the DSi and DSi LL (XL in Japan) and finally the 3DS. While smashing, he touches the touchscreen, and the touchscreen noises you hear on a DS is heard. Finally, there’s the 3DS. You can see him rewinding until he gets back to “Hello and good day to you, I’m the smash doctor, today we’re going to be smashing a Nintendo 3DS.” Then, he ex-plains some general information about the console, and he says, “I’m going to smash this!” Funny graphics show up, and he says, “In 3D!” with text saying In 3D (Not Really) and the graphics turn to normal. He smashes a lot of the console, and says:

“And that’s how you smash a Nintendo 3DS! Get a PSP!”

TheSmashDoctor

He is shown cleaning up the remains of the Gameboys and the DS’, until he notices a per-fect condition 3DS, and exclaims, “My 3DS! It’s still alive!” He is shown playing it, then tells the watcher thanks and to subscribe, and in the end, the funny graphics show up with the Smash Doc-

Eddie Wilson: The recently released Super Smash Brother for Wii U… has been released. I have already got-ten the game and unlocked all the characters and all the maps. This is a great game overall! The game has no storyline, just an online mode, a brawling mode, and solo mode. This game is extremely fun, it has introduced nine new characters, with one old one on the way. For this character you must own both the 3DS version of the game and the Wii U one. You will also get two music discs shipped to you.

The game adds many things. It adds a game mode that is like Mario Party, except smash ver-sion. You wander around the board and the amount of spaces you move depends on the amount you roll on the dice, around the board, there are powerups that will upgrade your characters. Around the board, there are also characters scattered around the board. When you collect these characters, you will use them to brawl. After all the turns are up, you will brawl with everyone with the characters you have gathered. The winner of this brawl will be the winner of the game. Another thing the game adds is 5-8 player smash! Now 8 players can battle on screen at the same time! Of course, there some maps you may not play while on this mode, because those maps are too small for 8 players to be on the screen at the same time. On the topic of maps, you can now hit 1 on the wii remote, or plus on the gamepad, and make any stage a flat stage, this was implemented because these flat stages are the most fair maps in the game, not giving anyone an advantage. You can also create your own map, this is much easier in this version of the game, because you use the wii u gamepad to draw the ground that the characters will be on.

Event mode in this game is back! There are certain events you have to complete, in these events, there are very strict circumstances that you must fight under. If you complete these, you could gain new stages, passes to crazy hand orders, or coins. Another thing it adds is angry birds… You hit a bomb to destroy a building and hit the targets inside. If it isn’t angry birds, what is it?

That pass I was talking about is a pass to the crazy hand order. There are master hand orders, and crazy hand orders. Master hand orders are events you get into for 500 gold and gain gold. Crazy hand orders you get into for 1000 gold or a crazy hand pass, and you can gain new movesets, gold, or music for the game. Movesets are things you can gain in the game to customize your characters. These custom characters have custom moves, and custom stats. These can be very useful if you are trying to beat something that is really hard.

This game can be controlled by so many different controllers, the gamepad, wii remote, wii re-mote and nunchuck, the wii u game controller, the wii u game controller pro, or the gamecube controller! To use the gamecube controller, you will have to get an adapter though. The new characters added are: Pacman, Megaman, Shulk, Duck hunt dog, Palutena, Dark Pit, Lucina, Robin, Villager, Little Mac, Greninja, Mii brawler, and Rosalina & Luma (one character). The returning characters are: Dr. Mario, and Mewtwo.

Overall, this game is a really good game! If you have a Wii U, you really need this game.

Page 15: Northwest Passage: The Moustache Issue

The Great War of Prefectures is a type of game not many people play. It’s more of a pixel ar-my kind of game where the object is to conquer the whole country of Japan with a state of your choice. After you conquer Japan, some random mystical islands appear and start to at-tack you. The “Aliens” are about 3 times as strong as any state army in Japan. Once you conquer a state, you get more revenue to acquire more soldiers. Every state you conquer in-cluding your starting one has a defensive advantage when other states invade you. You also have a choice to put a offensive/defensive effect on your state. You can level up your army rate so you can unlock 2 more soldiers. ( You start with a gladiator and archer, 1 lvl up you unlock a knight and defender, 2 lvl up you unlock a medic and a mechanic, 3 lvl ups you un-lock a ninja and a wizard, the 5th and final level you unlock a sniper and samurai.) During a battle, you can choose an strategy. You can also level up your strategy, so you can take a large advantage of your enemy. You begin your legacy with 100$ which you can spend on warriors. The more stares you conquer, the more money you earn per day. The hint to win-ning the game, is to get a lot of green giants, and kill the final aliens. To get the giants, you need select the green giant icon and put it on a state you control. One spawns in your army every 15 days. The better your troop is, the more it will cost, but some state icons spawn snipers or gladiators every couple of days.

The ending of the game is not so great. In fact, it is pretty lame, do you know how it ends?

“Congratulations!, So and So empire completed, back to the beginning?” The game is very addicting and intense, and winning the game takes a lot of patience and

time. A lot more different than Minecraft, but still really fun. It is a Flash game, so anyone can

jump in and play it. It is a 4 and a half star rating on a lot of different websites, include Kon-

gregate, Cool Buddy, and Flash Games.

The Crawlies

By Erin Moses

Every day I walk alone, listening to fuzzy tones, through my earbuds, the Crawlies crawl, bawling their loudest

bawl of bawls.

Screeching loud they say to me, your body later will lay at sea,

Roaring louder, increasing yet, will they stop, the answer is not yet, they scratch at my brain, and claw at my

eyes, why are these creatures in my insides?

Evilly laughing they nag at my heart, their pungent smell wafts like a fart. I won’t let them in, i won’t

let them win, the crawlies are exiting through my chin.

They float in my face, and fly in my ears, and cry and scream and bring me to tears.

When you die you’ll be forgotten, they chant.

When you die you’ll be neglected, they chant.

When you die, we’ll take over your life.

When you die, we’ll take your soul.

Thats all we need, your soul indeed, and then we’ll quick hop out and leave.

Cellosaur

By Erin Leigh Moses

The mighty Cellosaur stalks it’s prey, it’s toenails digging into the soft earth as it prepares to attack the Violinasaurus.

The cellosaur springs out of the horse-hair grass, and pounces on it’s kill.

Cellosaur rules all.

The Trumbirds fly to it’s mighty call, the Clarimingos squawking in confusion, as the Cellosaur drags the Violinasaurus to it’s cave.

What’s this? The mighty Cellosaur is feeding Xyloworms to the Violinasaurus! And repairing it’s bow! Could it be?

The Cellosaur bends over, it’s wooden toenails caked with earth, and begins to hum.

The notes played on the Cellosaur rule all. The music played by the Cellosaur rule all.

Cellosaur rules all.

Battlestar Galactica: Saga of a Star World review

By: Harry Westergaard

Doctor Who. Star Wars. Star Trek. If you are a fan of any or all of the shows I just named

(and if there are any you aren’t a fan of, I suggest you check it out!) and looking for more

shows like it, then I suggest you check out Battlestar Galactica. Preferably, the 1978 series,

but what the heck, each is equally as nerdy. The show follows the last Battlestar, Galactica

with a rag-tag fleet of ships, which are all that remains of the twelve colonies of humans

which were destroyed by the evil Cylons. They are now fleeing from the Cylons, who seek

to destroy all humans, and trying to find the fabled 13th colony, a planet known as earth.

Today, I’m here to review the first three parter of the show, which makes up the pilot. It

was also released as a film in 1979. Richard Hatch plays Apollo the main character. He’s the

son of Galactica’s commander, Adama,( Lorene Green, of Bonanza fame) and the captain of

the fleet. He’s good with kids, but other than that is the stereotypical hero. Dirk Benedict

(Faceman, from the A-team) plays Starbuck. He’s like a lot like Han Solo and easily one of

the most fun characters to watch on screen. He gets better as the show goes on. The best

part of the show are the Cylons. The costumes are fantastic, as are their voices. They have

really cool ships and that brings me to the next point, the space battles. Boy, are they

awesome! The model work is really cool by John Dykstra, who also did the effects for Star

Wars. The plot of the three parter itself is….okay. The first part really serves as the main

pilot, with parts two and three go to a different plot, about a planet that’s resources seem a

bit to good to be true. Part two is SUPER boring, and while the good cast does save it most

of the time, there is one problem. WHERE ARE THE BLOODY CYLONS????????????? I mean

come on! What? What's that, Oh, I haven't addressed how epic the cylons are because I

have just assumed everyone knew they were epic. Well, just look up at that picture up there

and tell me that doesn't look wizard. Then watch how epic and evil they are in the show,

and you will see how I’m disappointed that they aren’t in part two that much. They are

more interesting than the main characters! There are some interesting bug monsters and a

woman with two faces, but other than that this episode is just filler. The next episode

makes up for it with a magnificent ending with an epic battle against the Cylons. There are

a lot of good practical explosions and it really cool. Overall while the original Battlestar

Galactica show as a whole is recommended, I can’t say this episode is very good. Part one is

good for a pilot and part three has some of the most memorable battles in the show, but

part two is such a dull mess of filler! Overall, if this episode is too boring for you, and you

lose faith in the show, it improves right with the second episode, Lost Planet of The Gods.

7/10(Yeah, that battle at the end was pretty cool.)

If the first episodes don’t do it for you, here are some that will make up for it.

Lost Planet of the Gods

The best part about this episode is the fact that something is always happening. Mostly, I

mean, the second act of Part one is kind of boring but, It picks up right in act three. The

second part is an improvement, with great payoff after all of the build up of part one.

Overall, This episode is a vast improvement over the first three parter.
