Governors’ Day On Thursday 28th April, all the school’s Governors were in school for the whole day. They took time out of their regular day jobs to visit Northwold. After spending time in all the classrooms during the course of the morning, they then held an assembly, where they introduced themselves and answered questions from the children. A lot of children wondered what our governors would do if they weren’t governors at Northwold. Most answered that they couldn’t really imagine not being governors. We are really fortunate to have such a dedicated group of people helping to run the school. Again our thanks go to the governors for giving up their valuable time to be at Northwold.
Raheem – European BBJ Champion Regular readers of the newsletter will know about the incredible exploits of Raheem (Year 6 India) in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Back in February he came third in the World Championships in California. A couple of weekends back, Raheem became the European Champion in his age and weight group. Raheem and his coach, Marco, took to the school stage last week in a special assembly. They demonstrated some of the sport’s basic moves, as well as Raheem’s signature moves, that have brought him such success. Despite his phenomenal success, he told the school how important resilience is to his achievements. Sometimes he loses a bout, but he has the mental strength to get up, start again and aim for the top. We can all learn from his achievements. Coach Marco said that the sport is hoping to become an Olympic Sport in 2024. Maybe we’ll be cheering on a certain ex-Northwold pupil to a gold medal.

Ireland Trip – London Transport Museum
On Monday, Ireland visited the London Transport Museum. "We saw lots of buses and tubes from the olden days." – D'Angelo
We have used the buses as an inspiration for our story writing.
Espresso – Learning resource We have a large number of online resources that children can access from home. We are pleased to announce that you have another fantastic resource to use to support your child’s learning. Espresso has resources across the whole curriculum. As part of our subscription we have paid for the school’s children to have access to the resources. We love them. We hope you like them too. Enabling Enterprise – Crossrail – Year 4 “On Thursday 28th April, half of Brazil and Jamaica classes went on a trip to the Crossrail Offices. It was an Enabling Enterprise workshop. We had to create a strong tower from newspapers. The tallest and strongest tower would be the winner. There were four teams and my team won.” – Presley (Brazil) Look at the amazing view from the Crossrail Offices, on the 30th floor of the Citigroup skyscraper in Canary Wharf.
Predator! – Spain Trip Year 3 Spain went to the Natural History Museum on
Wednesday 27th
April to do a fossils workshop for our
Cornerstones topic 'Predator!' and also as part of our
science topic on 'Rocks.' We even got a chance to go to
the dinosaur exhibit and learn about how dinosaurs lived
and what they might have looked like. The trip was
described as 'brilliant fun' by Abdulmaleek.
After School Clubs The After School clubs have now started. Nearly all the clubs are full and we have sent out the confirmation letters. A few places are still available for Dance (Wednesday) and African Drumming (Wednesday). If your child has not got a place in their first choice of club and they are interested in the above clubs, please collect and complete the ‘club’ form in the Office.

Wednesday Coffee Mornings Every Wednesday from 9.00-9.30am there will be a coffee morning held in the Canteen. Each week, one of the school’s leaders will be talking about their area of responsibility. Why not join other parents afterwards for a coffee? e-Safety – T is for Tell
Let’s finish our review of the SMART rules for being online. T is for Tell. Your child will have so many fantastic and enjoyable experiences using the internet. However, every now and then they will see or hear something that makes them feel uncomfortable or worried. It could be rude language, inappropriate pictures of bullying. They may be afraid of telling someone about it, as they may fear that they will no longer be allowed to use the internet. So it is important that they feel confident to tell you, or a trusted adult, what has happened and let you deal with the matter. Talk to your child regularly about what they are doing online and agree what to do when these unpleasant events do (occasionally) happen. If there are any areas of e-Safety you want to know more about, please feel free to discuss it with Mr Braune, your child’s teacher or one of the school’s leaders.
