GENERAL CONDITIONS OF ENTRY AND COMPETITION
The Ayr Pastoral Agricultural & Industrial Association Inc. is a member of the
Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies. As such, all entries are
accepted subject to the following:
This Show is conducted subject to the rules of the Queensland Chamber of
Agricultural Societies and the Rules of this Society and any regulation which
appears within the Schedule for the Individual Sections of this show.
Should there be any conflict between the rules of the Queensland Chamber of
Agricultural Societies, the Constitution and the Rules of this Society and the
Regulations appearing in the Schedule, the Constitution, Rules and Regulations
appearing in the Schedule of this Society shall prevail.

All persons upon entering any class in this Schedule agree to indemnify the Ayr
Pastoral Agricultural & Industrial Association Inc. against liability for any
accident, damage, loss or illness to any Exhibitor, Exhibit or Competitor and
agree that all Compensations are under the complete and total control of the
Ayr Pastoral Agricultural & Industrial Association Inc. whose decision in all
matters is final.
The Ayr Pastoral Agricultural & Industrial Association Inc:
1. will appoint Stewards to each Section as its representative in all matters;
2. will appoint Judges whose decision is final; and
3. reserves the right to make any decisions, inclusions or changes to this
Schedule including the Conditions of Entry and Competition without
further notice.
A Judge shall not have any information prior to or during judging at the 2019
Burdekin Show other than what is provided by the Ayr Pastoral Agricultural &
Industrial Association Inc.
DISPUTE RESOLUTION
Any protest by an Exhibitor must be lodged in writing with the Association’s
Secretary by 5.00 pm on Wednesday 26th June 2019 together with a Fee of
$30.00. This Fee will be forfeited if the Protest is considered be frivolous or
vexatious. All protests shall be decided by the Management Committee
whose decision shall be final.

SECTION 04 – SUGAR CANE
ENTRIES CLOSE: Friday 21st June 2019 @t 4.00 pm
ENTRY FEE: $5.00 – All Classes
PRIZE MONEY: 1st Prize: $70.00
2nd Prize: $50.00
3rd Prize: $20.00
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: It is essential that Exhibitors read the following
comprehensively.
1. Refer to the General Conditions of Entry and Competition printed in the
front of this Schedule.
2. Cane for CCS Competition must not be topped and is to be tied in bundles
of three (3) sticks.
3. Growers to deliver their cane for CCS Testing to the Ayr Showgrounds
Office area by 9.00 am Monday 24th June 2019.
4. Cane length for CCS Competition must be at least 2 meters in length to
growing tip.
5. Three (3) sticks for each of the CCS Classes 9-12 entered, must be
delivered to the Show-grounds for display purposes by 12.00 pm Tuesday
25th June 2019. N.B. Prize money will only be paid if the three sticks for
each CCS Class entered, are delivered to the Show-grounds for display.
6. All other exhibits must be delivered to the show-grounds by 12.00 pm
Tuesday 25th June 2019.
7. All exhibits must be the product of the Exhibitor unless otherwise stated,
and all cane must be grown under strict field conditions.
8. In order to assist Stewards, all exhibits should carry a tag bearing the
exhibitors name, class and variety, in which the exhibits are entered, and
is to be cut level with the ground, and correctly named. Cane will be
judged on growth.
9. Only varieties approved by the SRA for the Burdekin Region are eligible to
be entered.
10. All cane exhibited shall remain the property of the Show Association.
11. No exhibit is to appear in more than one class, and all sticks will be
considered regardless of shape.
12. Prize Monies are to be collected at the Show Office from Wednesday, 3rd
July to Friday 5th July 2019 between 3.00 pm & 6.00 pm each day. Unless
prior arrangements have been made with the Show Secretary, prize
monies not collected by 6.00 pm Friday 5th July 2019, becomes the
property of the Show Association.

CARROT CAKE
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup self-raising flour 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
½ teaspoon cinnamon ½ cup chopped pecan nuts
½ cup sultanas ½ cup chopped glace ginger
1 ½ cups grated carrot 2 eggs (lightly beaten)
1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed) ⅓ – ½ cup oil
METHOD:
1. In a large bowl, sift flour, soda and spices together.
2. Add sugar, nuts, carrots, sultanas, ginger, eggs and oil. Mix well.
3. Beat on medium speed for 5 minutes.
4. Place into a greased loaf tin 12 x 22 x 5cm and cook in a moderately slow
oven for ¾ to 1 hour. Cool on a cooling rack.

APRICOT AND CHOC CHIP CAKE
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup apricots chopped 1 cup apricot juice
125g butter ⅔ cup raw sugar
2 eggs separated 1½ cups coconut
1½ cups self - raising flour ½ cup milk chocolate chips
METHOD:
1. Combine apricot nectar & chopped apricots and stand for 1 hour.
2. Cream butter and sugar until white.
3. Beat egg yolks one at a time, and then transfer to a large bowl.
4. Stir in coconut, half the sifted flour and half the apricot mixture.
5. Then stir in the rest of the flour and apricot mix and choc bits.
6. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form, fold into mixture.
7. Pour mixture into a 25cm round well-greased cake tin.
8. Bake at 180c for 40 - 45 minutes.
9. Stand for 5 minutes, dust with icing sugar.

HUMMINGBIRD LOAF CAKE
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups (300g) self - raising flour 1 teaspoon baking powder
3 teaspoons mixed spice 1½ cups (260g) brown sugar
4 eggs, lightly beaten ⅔ cup (160ml) vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 cups (480g) grated carrot
⅔ cup (70g) walnuts, chopped
½ cup (120g) canned, crushed pineapple, drained
METHOD:
1. Preheat oven to 180c.
2. Place flour, baking powder, mixed spice and sugar in a large bowl and
mix to combine.
3. Add eggs, oil, vanilla, carrot, walnuts and pineapple and mix to
combine.
4. Pour into a 10 cm x 21cm (2 litre capacity) lightly greased loaf tin
lined with non-stick baking paper.
5. Bake for 45 minutes or until cooked when tested with a skewer.
6. Allow to cool in the tin for 5 minutes before turning out on to a wire rack
to cool completely.

1. All exhibits must be delivered to the Burdekin Multi-Purpose Hall at the
Ayr Showground, no later than 10.00 am Monday 24th June 2019.
2. All exhibits must have Exhibit Cards firmly attached, when delivered for
judging.
3. In any class having less than three (3) exhibits, only one prize will be
awarded. Whether this prize is first prize is left to the discretion of the
Judge whose decision is final.
4. No exhibit is to appear in more than one class.
5. Three (3) entries ONLY are the maximum permitted from any one
competitor in any class in this section.
6. An exhibit must have been completed in the last 2 years by the entrant.
7. A Novice is someone who has not won a prize in this Section in a

1. Exhibits in Classes 1–6 only are to be delivered to the Burdekin Multi-Purpose

competitor in any class of the Open or Juvenile Classes.
7. In any class having less than 3 exhibits, only one prize will be awarded.

Print size is not to exceed 40cm x 50cm [16” x 20”].
BEGINNER’S CLASSES:
Prints are not to exceed 20cm x 25cm [8” x 10”]. Once you have won
an award in the Photography Section of any show, you are no longer
classed as a Beginner.
JUNIOR CLASSES are divided in to four age categories. All exhibits must
be the work of the entrant.
DEFINITION OF CLASSES:
PEOPLE: Photographs of humans, in which the human interest provides
the main theme of the photograph.
NATURE: Photographs of birds, wild animals, wild flowers, native plants,
or geological specimens and formations. Domestic animals, pets or
formal flower arrangements are not admissible in this Section.
PHOTO JOURNALISM: 1 Single Photograph depicting a story of people,
places, and events. Each individual photograph will be classed as an
entry.
OPEN: A photograph of any subject matter not covered in above
class definitions.

1. All entries must be the sole work of the exhibitor, and no entry can be
entered in more than one class.
2. Each entry presented for judging, must have the Exhibitor’s Grade, (not
name) and Date of Birth printed on the back only of the exhibit. The
student’s name is to appear on the Entry Form only.
3. Exhibits must be delivered to the Show Office by 4.00 pm Wednesday 19th
June 2019 with Exhibit Cards attached.
4. Entry is to be neatly typed, using white paper, size A4.
5. Exhibits are to be collected between 9.00 am and 11.00 am Thursday 27th

NARRATIVE: The main purpose is to entertain and engage the reader in an
imaginative experience. Some Narratives may seek to explain a phenomenon
or to teach a lesson.
RECOUNT: The purpose is to tell what happened and this may involve the
author’s interpretation of events. There are different types including personal
recount where the author has been directly involved. A factual recount retells
an event or incident such as a newspaper report or accident report.
Imaginative recounts take on a fictitious role and relates imaginary events.
EXPOSITION: The purpose is to develop ideas and supporting details in order
to present a logical argument from a particular point of view. They may be
written to persuade readers to agree with the writer’s particular part of view.
They can compare and / or contrast topics and develop a case that will
persuade the reader that the writer’s premise is correct. It can analyse a topic
presenting all points of view and stating the logical conclusion or expecting
that the reader will form a logical conclusion.

POETRY: The language has been selected for its imagery and quality of sound.
Poetry can have a particular rhyme and rhythm. The pattern in one verse is
then repeated in other verses. Blank verse does not have rhyme as a general
rule.
