Notes from the Pastor
** Thank you to all who participated in the taping of
“Discovering Our Faith” this past week with
Archbishop Gustavo. A special Thank You to Sr. Cal
who helped arrange the format of the program.
** Please, for the next couple of weeks, pray for the
Respect for Life. As Christians we believe that life is
so sacred that God could not allow it to be defeated by
death. Each of us are called to preserve life and the
spirit of all people. At the heart of Catholic Social
Teaching is the belief that the life and dignity of the
human person is central to who we are and how we
live. We are all called to be pro life, living in awe and
respect for all of God’s creation, especially His master-
piece...the human person.
Thank you for your continued support & generosity. Stewardship for the weekend of 10/5/14

Family Reflection Time on the Gospel
Reflecting on the Word Have you heard the joke about the person touring heaven, and asking about a secluded area, only to be told: “That’s for Catholics. They think they’re the only ones here!” The irony of this joke is it can be funny when told to a member of any Christian group. The fact is, the kingdom of God could never include secluded areas. It will be a feast as described in this parable, filled with “bad and good alike.” God invites all to share in eternal life. On the way home from Mass What did you hear in the Gospel about who is invited to God’s party? Is there anyone who is not invited? Living the Word Think of a challenging but feasible way to invite someone atypical to a meal or snack with your family. This might be dinner in your home, a meal in a restaurant, or even an afterschool or after-activity treat. Talk about who your family might not normally invite to eat with you—a child who is a “loner,” a new student, a neighbor you barely know, or even a person in need. Before and after, talk about sharing God’s invitation to all by spending time with those whom we don’t know, in safe ways.

Baptism Certificates
Baptism certificates for children preparing for the Sacrament of Eucharist are due in one week. The deadline to turn in Baptism certificates is Oct. 19. Please bring your child’s Baptism certificate to the parish office during business hours to be photocopied. We will return the original certificate to you. Or give the certificate to Sr. Cal on Sunday when you bring your child to class.
Family Faith Formation
The next Family Faith Formation gathering is next Sunday, Oct. 19 at 9 a.m. in the Parish Family Center. The topic is “Where Heaven and Earth Meet: An Overview of the Mass.” Fr. Dennis is the presenter. If your family would like to participate in this session, call or email me to sign up so that we can plan for enough food and handouts.

Prayer to the Holy Family for the Synod
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate
the splendor of true love, to you we turn with trust. Holy Family of Nazareth,
grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer,
authentic schools of the Gospel and small domestic Churches.
Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again experience violence,
rejection and division: may all who have been hurt or scandalized find
ready comfort and healing. Holy Family of Nazareth, may the approaching Synod of Bishops
make us once more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family,
and its beauty in God’s plan. Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
graciously hear our prayer. Amen
