the Seal of

Notre Dame acaDemy

The seal of Notre Dame Academy combines four principal ideas: a devotion to Our Lady, patroness of the school; a love for the Trinity; the dedication of the Sisters of Notre Dame, sponsors of the school; and a strong commitment to Catholic education.

The Fleur-de-lis, French in origin, symbolizes Mary and recalls St. Julie Billiart, the spiritual mother of the Sisters of Notre Dame. The blue color of the seal is also representative of the Blessed Mother. The triangle indicates a love for the Trinity: God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit united in a single godhead. The ND (Notre Dame, Our Lady), with the surmounting cross, represents the Sisters of Notre Dame. The lamp is a symbol for academic learning and its flame indicates that it burns for the good of others. For Christians, the lamp takes on additional significance as a metaphor for the gospel. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

the heritage of

Notre Dame acaDemy

Notre Dame Academy was founded in 1906 by the Sisters of Notre Dame. Originally located on 5th Street in Covington, Kentucky, NDA began as a school dedicated to Mary. From the very beginning, this all-girl college preparatory school offered students academic excellence along with an opportunity to grow in the knowledge and practice of the Catholic faith.

Notre Dame Academy experienced tremendous growth in its enrollment over the years necessitating a move to its present campus in Park Hills, Kentucky, in 1963. NDA continues to provide a premier education in-fused with the spirit of St. Julie Billiart, proclaiming God’s goodness and provident care.

Notre Dame Academy has a strong academic tradition of empowering young women to make a difference in the world. The NDA community strives to instill in young women not only knowledge, but also spiritual and moral values that will prepare them for a life of success, community service and personal fulfillment.

Notre Dame Academy remains dedicated to the Educational Vision and Principles of the Sisters of Notre Dame as they are central to fulfilling the mission at Notre Dame Academy.

The SND Vision

Impelled by Jesus Christ and his mission and our rich educa-tional heritage, we provide a Catholic-Christian environment of educational excellence for the transformation of individuals and society. We form persons who are skilled and committed to jour-ney together in hope as witnesses and catalysts for the responsi-ble care of all God’s creation and for justice and peace, especially for those in the margins of society.

The SND Educational Principles

The Centrality of a Good and Provident GodThe Human Dignity of Each Person as an Image of GodThe Notre Dame Educator as a Gospel WitnessAn Integrated Education for Transformation
