In the World Wide Web, when visiting websites, we usually wish to save the site for future reference.

It could be a recipe site, your banking website, a blog you follow, or any other site you frequently visit.


Saving these sites involves using your browser’s built-in tool to make a “quick link”.

If you wish to access them elsewhere (not on your computer) what do you do ?

A method for sharing, organizing, searching and managing bookmarks of web resources.

The resources themselves aren't shared, merely bookmarks that reference them.


Social bookmarking tools have several core functions.

• Remote access for your bookmarks.

• Sharing with others – the social aspect !


And you thought social bookmarking was...


Social bookmarking is not only about the sharing of bookmarks with others.

Many of these tools allow for “tagging” the resource – a keyword(s) or phrase that the creator or viewer attributes to the resource.

What is Annotation ?

Annotation involves making comments to discuss the contents of a certain resource.

These comments can be made by way of margin notes, sticky tabs, highlighting text.

Annotating using Sticky Notes

Sticky notes can be used in many ways.

• teacher adds specific instructions

• guiding questions for student reading

• students respond on the sticky note itself

Annotating using Highlighting

Highlighting can draw student attention to specific information in a web resource.

It can also be used to simplify and bring out key points advanced-level passages or technical sources.

Search the web and start bookmarking.
