My name is Von Ruder, but friends call
me “Aspen”. I have been an A.S.E. Certified
Master Mechanic in Gainesville since 1983.
After years of working in large corporate
shops, I’ve become disillusioned (disgusted)
with the ethics in my field. So I now work for
myself – and clientele – from my home. I
have a unique “Carmic” approach to auto
repair. It is my Sadhana. My Path. It is how I
give back to this sometimes crazy yet wondrous world of ours.
The next time you need a mechanic, I’d be honored if you’d
consider my services.
At Kind Auto, it’s not all about the money. Inspections and esti-
mates are always free. Honest advice is but a phone call
away. You can drop your car off or sit in the K.A.R. Back Porch
Waiting Lounge with WIFI, sun bathe on a chaise, or chat with me
while I work.

In honor of The Transgender Day of Remembrance, the Pride Community Center will host
“Movie and Sharing” on Tuesday, November 20th at 6:30pm. There will be a showing of the film
“Breakfast on Pluto” and afterwards attendees will be invited to share their
remembrances.
Neil Jordan directs “Breakfast on Pluto,” a spirited romp based on Patrick
McCabe's roisterous novel. Born the love child of a priest (Liam Neeson) in a
conservative Irish hamlet, transvestite Patrick Braden (Cillian Murphy) leaves
small-town life behind and heads to swinging 1970s London to find the mother
who abandoned him years ago. Along the way, Braden -- who's a trouble
magnet -- unwittingly takes up with an Irish Republican Army gunrunner.
Please join us for this special event which is free and open to all. Light
refreshments will be provided.
LGBT Foster/Adoption Training
Can you commit to providing a loving caring home for a
child in need?
Partnership for Strong Families will host an information session on foster and adoptive care Saturday November 10th at 12:30pm, lo-cated at the PRIDE center. With 32 foster homes and over fifty children in foster care in Alachua County today, children are being placed an hour or more away from their homes. Join us as we discuss requirements and the dire need for quality foster homes. We will explore the truths and myths facing
lesbian and gay foster parents from two of our same-sex foster and adoptive families. We hope to see you become a part of the movement!
“Life Planning”
Tuesday, November 13th
6:30 pm
Adam D. Roark will present information focusing on the importance of estate planning
(especially the idea that your partner has no rights/powers unless you give them), how you can plan to avoid probate and guardianships, and financial planning.
Ryan Westerburg of Merrill Lynch will be speaking about the importance of planning for retirement, protecting yourself (and partner, children, family, etc.) in an uncertain economy, and sound investment strategies. For more info, contact Adam D. Roark, Attorney at Law, LL.M. in Taxation, at Roark Law Firm, P.A. at (352) 226-8005. Event will be held at the Pride Community Center, 3131 NW 13th St, Gainesville. Attendance is free. Light snacks will be provided.

Wild Iris Books Prepares to Move Locations with Sale by Michelle Provenzano
With hope in her eyes, Cheryl Calhoun hangs a bright red sale sign in the front window of her store. After 20 years in business, Wild Iris Books, 802 W. University Ave., will move and downsize its inventory with a 20 percent-off sale. Calhoun co-owns the store with Erica Merrell. “I’ve been here for 8 years. It’s sad to see this space go,” Calhoun said. “I think we’re moving forward, though, in a community that represents not only feminism, but the integration of that in today’s culture.” The store will remain in its current location until Dec. 22, and the sale will go on until the store’s move, Merrell said. “We want to honor the space and legacy here,” Merrell said. “We want to be here through the holidays for the customers, keep our sale going and hopefully end with a celebration.” Calhoun said she and Merrell have been looking for new locations and have a ver-bal agreement with the owner of a smaller storefront. Wild Iris Books will not announce its new location until it establishes a written agreement. The sale covers all merchandise, excluding consignment items and e-readers. There is also a garage sale table, where prices range from a quarter to $3, Merrell said. The merchandise on the table will be updated whenever there is an empty space. In addition to the sale, the owners have reached out to the community to get its opinion about what it would like
to see in the new store, Calhoun said. “With our customers’ help, we can re-imagine what a feminist bookstore in 2012 should look like,” she said. Calhoun said big plans are in the works for the new store. “We’ve come a long way in the last 20 years,” she said, “but we still have a long way to go.” excerpt from www.alligator.org

November 4: “Albert Nobbs”
Having for decades disguised herself as a man while working as a butler in a posh 19th-century Dublin hotel, a woman
calling herself Albert Nobbs reconsiders her charade when a handsome painter
arrives on the scene.
December 2: “Big Dreams in Little Hope”
When they're sent to the tiny backwoods town of Little Hope to collect market research interviews, co-working
opposites Linda and Kelly find there's literally no room at the inn, and they're forced to stay together at a local youth hostel. But sharing such a tight space produces interesting results. Writer-
director Erin Greenwell helms this unconventional buddy flick with a lesbian twist.

Based on writer Christopher Ish-erwood's critically acclaimed memoir, Christopher and His
Kind, this landmark BBC adapta-tion gives a fascinating glimpse into the decadent and politically unstable world of 1930s Berlin. A young, wide-eyed Christopher
escapes repressive English society and arrives in Berlin at a time when the cabaret scene is in full
swing. Launched into the thriving gay subculture, Christo-pher embarks on a potent journey of self-discovery amidst
the vibrant atmosphere of Berlin's cabaret nightlife and the dark rise of Nazi politics.

PCCNCF’s 10th Anniversary/Birthday Party was a fun celebration! With around 80 members and supporters in attendance, the atmosphere was happy and
festive. Partygoers feasted on delicious hors d’oeuvres, birthday cake, and ice cream. Prizes were provided for the attendee wearing the oldest PRIDE T-shirt, as well as to the member with the oldest current membership card. A 50/50 raffle, great piano music (sing-along) by Laurel Lamme, and nostalgic decorations rounded out the occasion. Perhaps the biggest hit of the evening was the slideshow, “The First 10 Years,” which was full of great snapshots taken at various PCC events. This was a fabulous event made even better by connecting and catching up with old friends. PCC thanks all who attended for making this birthday a very special one indeed. We look forward to another 10 years!
