Summer is a great time to think about a career in parks and
recreation. We have had several students who have done
internships at local parks as well as the University’s Cam-
pus Recreation and Wellness Center. Those experiences
have led some of you to make a career in this area. Re-
member that your degree is in Sport and Recreation Man-
agement. Some students strictly think about working for a
professional or college team. You just might be pleasantly
surprised about how rewarding parks and recreation can
be. You have an opportunity to serve many people, people
of all ages! Thank you to the cities of Coconut Creek and
Hialeah who feature internships in this issue of the NSU
Sport and Recreation Management Newsletter.
INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS NEW AND TRANSFER STUDENTS
Practicums and internships are a great way to get experi-
ence and network. Starting this fall, new students includ-
ing transfers majoring in Sport and Recreation will be re-
quired to do an internship. Therefore, it is never to early
to meet with Professor Olson to start planning an experi-
ence. Reading the newsletters is a great way to get to
know what is being offered. If you don’t see what you
would like to do, Professor Olson will help you explore
how to find an appropriate experience for you.
