Alex Broom� eldRCAF, WWII, machinist for airplanes in

Ontario. Played hockey and lacrosse for the Airforce.

Vernon O. Best. Served 1942 - 1945 in England.

Bud McLeanRoyal Canadian Navy, Jan. 1944 - Nov.

1947. Served aboard Tribal Class Destroyer on Atlantic Convoys. Graduated British Commando Course for War in Paci� c.

Roy BlakeLong-time Miocene resident Roy Blake went

overseas on the Queen Elizabeth, March 17, 1942, with the Third Division. He served in the Signal

Corps in England for 18 months, then in Italy until his discharge in December 1945.

Corporal John Tim KnowlesJoined Army in 1941. Basic training

in Vernon with B.C. Dragoons. Served overseas in Italy and Holland in the Tank

Corps. Wounded in Nijmegen, Holland and sent home in 1945.

Roy Stewart ClementsGunner of the 4th Division, Ammunition

Column, Canadian Field Artillery.Born Dec. 3, 1893. Died Oct. 31, 1917.

Buried Potijze, Belgium.

E.G. (Tony) Woodland1914 - 1918 enlisted in Canadian Army and sent overseas. Was a member of his regimental band and held the rank of

Sergeant. Saw action in Belgium and France.Was gassed at Paschendale and sent home.

W.R. (Ralph) Woodland1941 - 1945 Signalman in the 8th Princess

Louise New Brunswick Hussars. Serving in Africa, Italy, France, Belgium,

Holland and Britain.

V.R. (Roy) WoodlandAfter completing his training in the RCMP he joined the Canadian Air Force. He was

an of� cer. Saw action in India, North Africa and Burma. Returned to Canada at the end

of the war.

Coy, Charles BRD 4th FB, QMRoyal Regiment of Canadian Artillery 11th

Battery, AKA Hamilton Field Battery, 1915 Part of 8th Field Regiment, RCA, fought at Ypres, the Somme, Passchendaele Cambie and the

Hundred Days.

Weldon CropleyServed from July 28, 1942 to February 12, 1946. Operated a Bren Gun Carrier in the 7th British Armoured Division. Medals awarded - France

Germany Star and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp.

Lorentz William (Bill) HembrofWarrant Of� cer 2nd Class Stationary Engineer.

Passed away October 31, 1999 in Courtenay, B.C. married Edme Marie (May) Cormier from

Moncton, N.B. May and Bill met during wartime in Moncton New Brunswick.

Clifford Orestes HammondJoined at Vancouver in 1915 with the artillary. Wounded twice by shrapnel, was a teamster, 6

horse teams hauling guns. Later transferred to the Seaforth Highlanders infantry. Returned in 1919,

died in 1924 from the effects of poisonous gas.

Captain John CorlessCanadian Armoured Corps. Awarded Croix

de Guerre Silver Star for exceptional bravery in battle of Buron, Normandy, 1944. Wounded by shrapnel. After he was appointed to teach tactics

at the British Military Collage at Sandhurst.

Lieutenant O/T Marion Leslie Corless#24 Canadian Hospital, Canadian Army

Overseas, Small� eld, Surrey, England. Served three years.

Corporal Roy Filmer Clements1921-2000. Served in RCAF Marine Section “Coast Watch” 1941-1945.

Coy, Arthur BayerJoined the airforce in 1939 served as a pilot until 1946.

Corporal Jeff SkeaSpent � ve years as a signaller with 1PPCLI. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2009/10 with Task

Force 3-09, Op Athena. He is currently with the 407 Long Range Patrol Squadron in the RCAF

as an airborne acoustics sensor operator.

Corporal Brad Taylor3 PPCLI Infantry. Deployed to

Afghanistan from June 2011 - March 2012. Currently stationed at CFB Edmonton.

Smith, Alex in 1943Joined the airforce in 1940, served as a

pilot until 1946.

Clarence LaBounty 1918 - 1988Born in Springhouse. Served during Second

World War with Princess Patricia Light Infantry. He was injured on the front line in Italy. He came home as an amputee - lost his leg. Member of the

Canadian Legion Branch 97.

Floyd F. Johnson 1910 - 1992Raised in the Williams Lake area. In 1939 Floyd joined the Army and served � ve years. He was in the Tank Corps as a Gunner. Injured many times and considered himself lucky to make it home.

Member of Legion #139.

William Kindret1920 to 1986, Royal Canadian Air Force,

Royal Candian Legion member.

Robert Hunter Jackson Served overseas with Seaforth Highlanders in WWII, 1939-1945. In May 1943 his troop was sent to Sicily and then Italy. Bob returned to

Vancouver in 1945 and to Williams Lake in 1953. Bob passed away Sept. 24, 2002 at the age of 82.

Lieutenant Hugh Lambe (1921 - 2006)1942 went overseas with Lake Superior Regiment. 1944 commissioned in York, England, wounded

in Belgium. In hospital in Ghent, Belgium. Transferred to Westminister Regiment in Holland.

Returned home on the Queen Mary 1946.

William LaBountyBorn at Springhouse, B.C. He served 4 years

with the Army Engineers Core in Northern West Europe and was in England on his way home to Canada when V.E. Day came. His brother

Clarence LaBounty also served in Italy.

Corporal George Albert BucklandBorn 1895 in Quebec, passed away March 1977 in Lac la Hache. Went overseas with a

load of horses in 1915. Served as a horseman and dispatch rider. Was in victory march into

Germany in 1918 with King George V.

Warren Gordon Holley J-40069Flying Of� cer, Royal Canadian Air Force

from 1942-1945. Served in Europe. Tailgunner in a Liberator.

Pilot o� cer John Walter KoppMarch 17, 1920 - Feb. 14, 1945.

Received Gold Operational Wings. Bombing instructor and pilot of a Lancaster Bomber.

Missing and presumed dead following a raid over Germany.

Shilo, Manitoba.

David WilliamsJoined at 18, mother pulled David out at 16. Served in Canada, basic training in Orillia,

Ontario. Member of the Royal Canadian Legion since 1945. David worked at Gibraltar Mine on

installation and then as solution operator.

Woodward, NormanTook a business course in June 1939 (age 19), signed up with RCAFF Accounts Branch, in

Victoria, Alliford Bay in Queen Charlotte, Bella Bella, and Pierce Alberta then to various stations

in eastern Canada. Discharged in 1946.

Noel Joseph GoodingJoined the Army June 1940 in Trail B.C. Belonged to the Stormont Dundas Glengarry Highlanders.

Served in the D. Day Invasion in Normandy as a Sargent. Received Medal of Honour from Minister of War, Paris France June 23, 1946.

Ove Johannesen Served as a Corporal with the R.C.A.S.C. #1

Canadian Convoy Co., 3rd Division from 1943 to 1946. His tour of duty took him to Belgium,

Holland and Germany.

Tony Borkowski - 1942 - 1945 Served in the RCAF was a trained

aircraft mechanic. He was posted to several RCAF stations in Western

Canada. Died Dec. 1984.

Herb Dell 1922 - 2002Joined the Army in 1941. Trade School

in Canada. Sent overseas in 1943 to England and Europe. Returned to

Canada in 1946, discharged June 1946.

Joseph LaPrairie - 1923 - 1976Enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces

- Queen’s Own Ri� es in 1941. Served overseas with the Transport division in

England and Germany.

Hank Peterson Served as a sniper in the

Denmark Regiment during WWII. Hank Peterson is now residing in Williams

Lake. Hank will be celebrating his 90th birthday

on December 26th.

Joe Borkowski RCAF - 1943 - 1946.Served in Canada and in U.K. with

411 Sub Patrol Squadron in Northern Ireland. Died July 1983.

Sgt. John Borkowski - 1941 - 1946.Served in the RCAF in Canada, U.K., India and Burma. In S.E. Asia he was

with 436 “Elephant” Squadron, air lifting supplies to the 14th Army until V.J. Day.

Dick BranchJoined the RCAF in Oct. 1941. Served in Canada as a Flight Instructor until 1944. In 1944 he was stationed in Scotland & � ew night surveillance

over the North Sea and English Channel. Returned home at Wars end in 1945.

Fred VedanJoined the army in 1942. In 1943 he was

shipped to England, Calgary Highlanders and Westminister Regiment. Fought in the Battle at

Casino, Italy. Then to Holland for the � nal battle of the war where it ended in 1945.

for its Annual Poppy Drive and

Remembrance Day Ceremonies.

The public is encouraged to attend the ceremonies

at the Gibraltar Room and at the

AFTER THE PARADEWe invite the community to attend your local Branch #139 Legion for pot luck, fellowship and memories following the service.

There will be a variety of entertainers.

Refreshments for all young parade participants will be available in the Legion Lower Hall.
