Ranges 1940-1945. Medals: Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp, Italy Star, 1935 - 45 Star.

Vernon O. Best. Served 1942 - 1945 in England.

Roy BlakeLong-time Miocene resident Roy Blake went overseas

on the Queen Elizabeth March 17, 1942 with the Third Division. He served in the Signal Corps

in England for 18 months, then in Italy until his discharge in 1945.

Corporal George Albert BucklandBorn 1895 in Quebec, passed away March 1977 in

Lac la Hache. Went overseas with a load of horses in 1915. Served as a horseman and dispatch rider. Was on victory march into Germany in 1918 with King George V.. Returned to Canada in January 1919.

November 1947. Served aboard Tribal Class Destroyer on Atlantic Convoys. Graduated

British Commando course for War in Paci� c. Owned and operated Hunting / Fishing Lodge

at Chilko Lake, B.C. since 1957.

W.R. (Ralph) Woodland1941 - 1945 Signalman in the 8th Princess

Louise New Brunswick Hussars. Serving in Africa, Italy, France, Belgium,

Holland and Britain.

V.R. (Roy) WoodlandAfter completing his training in the RCMP he

joined the Canadian Air Force. He was an of� cer. Saw action in India, North Africa and Burma.

Returned to Canada at the end of the war.

E.G. (Tony) Woodland1914 - 1918 enlisted in Canadian Army and sent

overseas. Was a member of his regimental band and held the rank of Sergeant.

Saw action in Belgium and France.Was gassed at Paschendale and sent home.

Robert Hunter Jackson Served overseas with the Seaforth Highlanders in WW Two, 1939-1945. On Aug. 8, 1942 he married

Joan Dawson from Brighton England. May 1943 his troop was sent to Sicily and then Italy. Bob returned

to Vancouver in 1945 and moved to WL in 1953. Bob passed away Sept. 24, 2002 at the age of 82.

Normandy, France June 1944. Awarded the French Croix de Guerre by Le General de Gaulles

for bravery. Served 6 years.

Overseas, Small� eld, Surrey, England. Served three years.

Corporal John Tim KnowlesJoined Army in 1941. Basic training at Vernon

with B.C. Dragoons.Served overseas in Italy and Holland in the Tank

Corps. Wounded in Nijmegen, Holland and sent home in 1945.

Pilot o� cer John Walter KoppMarch 17, 1920 - Feb. 14, 1945. Received Gold

Operational Wings. Bombing instructor and pilot of a Lancaster Bomber. Missing and presumed

dead following a raid over Germany.
