On behalf of the teachers
and staff at Cashton Middle
School and Cashton High
School, I want to be the
first to say how happy we
are to have students back in
our hallways! We are proud
of our students, our tradi-
tion and our excellent school
district. We value setting
goals with high expectations,
accountability, and communi-
cation. Through our district
and school goals, we will
strive to help all students
learn at high levels and have
each student career and
college ready. This is
achieved through a team
effort that starts with
strong relationships among
our students, parents, and
staff.
As we transition into a pa-
perless society, we utilize a
variety of digital communi-
cations to stay in touch
with each other. I want to
emphasize and encourage
students to stop in and for
parents and guardians to
call when you are in need of
something or have a con-
cern. Information is impor-
tant and necessary; commu-
nication via email or a
phone call does wonders in
bridging our relationship
and understanding of each
individual student. Helping
students be successful is
our number one priority!
Family Access, Student
Access, and our websites
are all resources that we
use to communicate atten-
dance, discipline, lunch ac-
count, homework, academic
grades, and other important
information to students and
parents. This information is
accessible in real time, and
I encourage students and
parents to take advantage
of these resources.
Once again, I am delighted
to have students back in
school and look forward to a
fun and exciting school year
filled with countless oppor-
tunities for learning and
growth. It is an honor to
serve the students, parents,
and staff of Cashton Middle
School and Cashton High
School and our community.

Principal’s Message from Mrs. Butzler
Parent/Teacher Conferences Scheduled
The Cashton Middle/High School will once again be holding Parent/Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, November
12 and Thursday, November 14 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:15p.m. The middle and high school teachers do not set up
specific appointment times for parents to come in. It runs on a first come first serve basis. For easy access to
see who is available, the middle school teachers will be in the cafeteria and high school teachers will be located
in the high school gym. Getting involved in your child’s education can truly make a difference in the success they
have here at Cashton and into their futures.
Although the school year is just beginning for academic classes, the music department has already been in full swing. Beginning and 6th grade band students had the opportunity to take 8 weeks of introductory courses where they learn the ropes of their instruments. Students from 7th grade all the way up through high school seniors also had an oppor-tunity for a weekly one-on-one instrumental lessons over the 8 week period. Both 7th, 8th and high school students also attended summer marching band practices in the final full week of August. These practices give students a jump start to the school year and help prepare students for the Fall Festival parade. In the coming months the bands and choirs will be preparing for late fall and early winter performances. In a few weeks time, interested students will also have the opportunity to sign-up for participation in the biannual variety show. The variety show will feature various vocal and instrumental solos and small ensemble pieces as well as some large group performances from the choirs and bands. Students will be limited on the number of different performances that they can participate in. Students will not need to try out for their spots in the show, but must receive approval by Mr. Muraski or Mrs. Kenworthy. Some other op-tions that will be considered for performance are comedy, forensics, poetry, dance, theatrical shorts (skits), or variety acts (vaudeville).

Science News by: Mrs. Lundeen
I’m excited to begin this school year with a few new classes in the Science Department. We are offering a course
called “Double Dose” in Chemistry and Biology this year. Students enrolled in DD Chem or DD Bio will get an extra op-
portunity to work on daily lessons and homework during Double Dose class time. This is an excellent way for students to
learn at their own pace and practice science concepts with the teacher at their side.
As the school year begins, I encourage you take advantage of all the online resources provided for our classes. To or-
ganize these online opportunities, I have created our own classroom website, bit.ly/cashtonscience. One of the most
important links on this website is the homework link. Here, parents and students can keep track of daily class activi-
ties, including homework assignments, due dates and tests. The website also has links to copies of classroom notes,
online editions of textbooks and classroom calendars. These are just a few of the opportunities the online resources
provide. Check out our website!
I would also like to encourage students to get involved in science this year. We have many opportunities to explore sci-
ence at CHS. One way is to join Roots & Shoots, our science club. Roots & Shoots is a service based club devoted to
helping the community in which we live. Roots & Shoots was created by the Jane Goodall Institute in an effort to im-
prove our communities, the animals in our surroundings and our environment. Another way to get involved in science is
to join the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium team. Students have the opportunity to present a science re-
search project to a group of judges to earn scholarship money for the college of their choice. Along the way, they also
meet new people and may even do some global traveling!
Again, welcome- I look forward to an interesting, exciting and successful year in Science! Please feel free to contact
me with any questions throughout the school year, via phone, email or in person. Enjoy the school year!

Indoor Environmental Quality Management Plan
Cashton School District
Annual Notice
The Cashton School District can use a website, student handbook, local newspaper, or other appropriate means to
notify students, staff, and the community that the district has an IEQ management plan in place. This annual
publication is part of the Cashton School District’s communication plan within the IEQ Management plan.
The Cashton School District would like to inform staff, students, parents, and the public of the district’s indoor
environmental quality (IEQ) management plan. The plan was initially developed in 2013 and is reviewed as neces-
sary. The plan was developed as deemed appropriate for the district. Questions and concerns should be directed
to the IEQ Coordinator. Copies of the plan are available at the district office for a fee. The district office is
located at 540 Coe Street, Cashton, WI 54619.

Below is a referendum progress update that provides some key developments and details the continued need for facili-ties committee and faculty feedback. ELEMENTARY PROJECT FINAL DESIGN The architects have completed the final design elements for the elementary project. Over the next few weeks the Ar-chitectural Design will be used to develop a Construction Document. The Construction Document will facilitate the bidding process that will culminate in the selection of a qualified general contractor. The scope of the elementary pro-ject will require about 5-months of construction. Our target final completion date is August 15, 2014. This will require the project starting March, 2014. Obviously the weather makes it a challenge to predict the exact project timeline, however, completing the project prior to the 2014-15 school year is a priority. According to industry experts the ideal time to get a competitive bid for a spring project is in late fall or early winter. We will use this timeline when developing the bidding process.
Referendum Update

The elementary addition will take place at the northwest corner of the existing building. The addition will include seven new classrooms. The rooms are scheduled to become 4K, 5K, Primary Special Education, and Primary Title I classrooms. The addition also includes new bathrooms in between the 4K rooms and outside of the new main of-fice. The redesigned main office will have a secure vestibule at the entrance, expanded work and storage areas, a centrally located nurse’s office, and a small conference room for parent meetings or teacher collaboration time. The yellow spaces indicate remodeled areas for the School Psychologist, Paraprofessionals, and the Speech/Language Teacher.
A new cafeteria will be built by filling in the courtyard. The new cafeteria will better accommodate the elementary stu-dent enrollment and allow for the old cafeteria space to be used for academics, physical education, CCLC, and small performances. Storage will be added in the kitchen and in the new cafeteria.
MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT At the Annual Meeting in September, the electorate voted to give the Board of Education the authority to acquire the three properties highlighted in the picture below. The actual vote was 73-Yes and 25-No.

Referendum Update (cont.)
Prior to the District purchasing these properties, we must complete a land survey; conduct a Phase I Environmental As-sessment; and appraise each property. Mr. Bell has scheduled each of these, and they should be completed over the next couple weeks.
Mr. Bell will be asking SDS Architects to begin the process of creating multiple interior and exterior designs for the MS/HS project. The goal is to present this information to the Facilities and Faculty committees by the end of October. The exact dates for these workshops have not been set.
The electorate also authorized the Board of Education to sell obsolete and/or unneeded school property. The plan is to schedule an auction after the asbestos abatement process at 525 Coe Street and the Lewis Street apartments is com-plete. It will be hard to predict the exact date of the auction until this process is complete. However, we will make sure to publicize the date of the auction in the Cashton Record.
We are confident that the elementary project is ready for the general contractor bidding process. Indications are that we will have a number of capable and qualified firms that will be bidding on the project. SDS is coordinating the exact bid date in a manner that will allow for the most competitive bids.
