JUDGEs’ BiOGrAPHiEs

CAttErsOn, tim | United States

Breeds/Bred: Italian Greyhound, Chihuahua, Pug

Owned/Exhibited: Brussels Griffon, Pomeranian

Timothy Catterson, of New Castle, Indiana, began exhibiting Italian Greyhounds in the mid-’70s. With his husband, Chuck Scott, he has bred and finished many champions in the breed, including a National specialty winner. Served as president of the national club and also judged their National more than once.

Mr. Catterson has been a judge since the 1980s and is approved for the Toy Group, Hound Group, Non-Sporting Group along with most of the Sporting Group and a few Working and Terrier breeds, Juniors and Best in Show. He has judged at many prestigious venues, including shows in Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Mr. Catterson has served as a Trustee of ‘Take the Lead’ since 1993.

Mr. Catterson is the president of the Anderson, Muncie, and past president of the Kokomo Kennel Clubs, and has been show chairman for the Muncie and Anderson shows for 25 years. He has served the Marion Kennel Club as AKC delegate and vice president. He belongs to the Italian Greyhound and Brussels Griffon AKC parent clubs, and the Central Indiana Pomeranian Club and the Pug Dog Club of Central Indiana. I have served in every position for these clubs and served as show chairman for over 100 dog shows.

Breeds: Airedale Terrier

Owned/Exhibited: Smooth & Wire Fox, Norfolk, Norwich and Lakeland Terriers and Pointer

I have bred and owned Airedales for a good portion of my life. Our first was very much a pet, and probably not purebred, but she started us on the path to find something better. We were lucky enough to purchase a very well bred bitch and as they say, the rest is history. We bred over 85 champions to date and wonderful companions as well. We have had two Best in Show winners as well as national, regional and local specialty winners. As with many other tried-and-true dog people, at one time or another, we have also owned a Smooth and Wire Fox Terrier, a Norfolk and Norwich, a Lakeland and a Pointer. However my first love has always been the Airedale.

I started judging over 30 years ago and have judged our national specialty several times as well as the Airedale Terrier Club of Canada National Specialty. It is always very special to me when I am asked to judge national specialty shows for breeds other than Airedales, and I have been lucky enough to have been asked often to do just that.

The dogs have been very good to me in that I have had the opportunity to travel the world. I have walked The Great Wall in China, toured the Forbidden City in China as well, spent time in Australia and New Zealand, toured around Buenos Aires, Argentina as well as Bogota, Colombia in South America, many countries in Europe and one of my crowning judging assignments was in South Africa where following the show, I was taken on a five-day safari in Krueger National Park – what an experience.

I also have a wonderful private life. We have a dairy farm in Southeast Wisconsin, four grown children and five super grandchildren. I love to cook, and bake, knit and read and I also love to volunteer at our hospital in the Recovery Room. As you can see, I don’t sit around a lot wondering what to do with my life, I have found many things to keep me occupied.

LYnE, virGiniA | Canada

Breeds/Bred: English Cocker Spaniel, Whippet

Owned/Exhibited: American Cocker Spaniel, Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Virginia Lyne, of Saanichton, British Columbia, Canada, began her career in 1953 exhibiting a Cocker Spaniel (American) in conformation and obedience. She is the breeder of multiple Best in Show and national specialty-winning Ranzfel English Cockers in the United States and Canada. She has also exhibited Pembroke Welsh Corgis and Whippets, and participates in obedience and tracking.

Ms Lyne began judging in Canada in 1969 and got her AKC license two years later. She has been an AKC all-breed judge since 1979. Ms. Lyne has judged across North America and around the world. She judged at the Westminster Dog Show four times. She judged the Sporting Group in 2003.

Ms Lyne is past president of the Canadian Dog Judges Association and a member of the Dog Judges Association of America. She served on the executive boards of the English Cocker Spaniel Club of America and English Cocker Spaniel Club of Canada. Ms Lyne has written extensively about English Cockers, and has been a moderator and presenter at judges’ education seminars on both sides of the border.

Ms Lyne’s life work was education. She retired in 1996 after 35 years in secondary school education, teaching English and working as a guidance counselor. Probably as a result of this background, she is committed to judges’ education and has been active in seminar presentations and judges training for many years.

viCE, DArrYL | United States

Breeds/Bred: Miniature Pinschers, Brussels Griffons

Owned/Exhibited: Great Danes, Giant Schnauzers, Bullmastiffs, Kerry Blue Terriers

I started breeding dogs in the early ’70s, but settled into Miniature Pinschers and Brussels Griffons in the late ’70s. I bred many champions in both breeds with little breeding each year. I showed my own dogs and helped a few friends a long the way. I also had Working breeds through the years. I have owned Great Danes, Giant Schnauzers and Bullmastiffs. I now have my second Kerry Blue Terrier. I started judging in 1994, and have judged in many other countries as well as all over the US. I have judged both of my breeds National Specialty twice. I have been privileged to judge many other breed specialties through the years. I always feel it’s such an honour to be asked to judge any breed specialty. I truly love to judge and enjoy every one of my assignments.

I have been married for 36 years and have a one wonderful daughter and one perfect 15-year-old granddaughter. I have belonged to many dogs clubs through the years, but now I am Vice-President of the Kennel Club of Palm Springs. I also belong to Orange Empire Dog Club and the American Brussels Griffon Association. I am very active in our Kennel Club of Palm Springs. We put on one of the largest and most beautiful dog shows in the United States, with entries of well over 3,000 dogs each day. I am looking forward to judging your shows.

LUCKEY-rOWtOn, michelleKenai Borzoi & Wind River Dobermans

I have been in the sport of purebred dogs, since 1968, first with a Brittney Spaniel and then a Doberman in 1975. I was drawn to the beauty of the Borzoi in 1977. After 41 years I am still amazed by this intelligent, powerful, yet graceful breed. I take great pride in breeding and exhibiting quality dogs and have been rewarded with much recognition, including multiple BIS winners in four different countries, as well as winning at Westminster, and our Regional and National Specialties. I also am extremely proud of our performance winners on the field and in the ring, and those dogs that are doing therapy work with elders and children. Dobermans have always been a passion and I re-entered the breed in 2002. I consider it a privilege and honour to be selected to judge the Royal Canin National Breeders’ Classic.

tOrrAnCE, LyndaSophisticate Shih Tzu

My life in purebred dogs began as a child showing our Standard Smooth Dachshunds both in conformation and junior showmanship. Growing up and doing the shows with friends Luke Ehricht, Kristi Francis and Billy Milne, my interest in many breeds developed, especially for the high-maintenance coated breeds. My first coated breed was one that my parent’s thought was hairy enough, a Standard Long-haired Dachshund. However, my idea was to have a solid black-masked gold Shih Tzu from probably what was Luke’s first-ever litter while still a teenager, and then my own American Cocker Spaniel, which was the breed I was awarded my first Best in Show with.

I bred Shih Tzu under the Sophisticate kennel name and produced 45 champions, including Best in Show winners in three countries. I stopped breeding when it became impossible to show our own dogs while handling professionally.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOTAPING Still photography and videotaping or filming will be conducted at the Caledon Kennel Association show. Your entry in, or attendance at, the Caledon Kennel Association show constitutes your permission and consent to the Caledon Kennel Association and its assignees and licensees photographing, videotaping or filming to use the resulting photographic pictures, videotapes or films of yourself, your agents and/or your dogs for any purpose whatsoever and without payment or further release.” No photography or videotaping may be conducted for the purpose of resale within the show precincts by anyone other than the official Show Photographer and other candid photographers and videographers without express written consent from the Caledon Kennel Association.

I began showing dogs professionally in 1979 with my first-ever top-winning dog, who was the foundation Pomeranian for what would become the world famous Chriscendo Pomeranian kennel. I enjoyed a very successful handling career lasting 36 years. Through the years I had the honour of showing many of Canada’s top-winning dogs for well-known breeders and owners whose dogs were awarded well over 400 Best in Shows, with numerous of them setting breed records, which still stand today.

Today I have the privilege through my ShowScene weekly magazine of watching and following the careers of many top-winning dogs from Canada, the US, and Mexico, who are with us weekly. I have found this to be just as exciting.

Thank you for inviting me to be apart of the judging panel for the 2018 Royal Canin National Breeders’ Classic, I know first hand the dedication breeders have in producing and preserving their family of dogs. I look forward to seeing some lovely dogs. Thank you to Royal Canin and the Caledon Kennel Association for supporting the breeders with this event, without them there would be no purebred dog fancy.

vAnDEnDOOL, tonyTimberline German Shepherds

I began breeding German Shepherds under the kennel name “Timberline” in 1995. I’ve handled more than 100 German Shepherds to their championships, bred 42 CKC champions, several AKC Champions, performance-titled dogs, futurity/maturity winners, several BIS winners and an ROMC dam. I bred and exhibited the #1 Female GSDs in Canada in 2011 and 2012. I am the Vice-President of the GSDCC Inc., licensed to judge GSD since 2010, and have completed numerous assignments within Canada and the U.S., and judged Intersex Males and Futurity/Maturity Females at the 2015 Canadian Nationals. I have a great appreciation for the nobility, intelligence, loyalty and beautiful movement of the GSD.

PLEASE PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOGS Let’s show the public how responsible we are as dog owners. It’s your responsibility.
