Dear ParentsEach year we have several drills to practice our safety procedures. We have fire drills, bus evacuation drills, tornado drills, and hard lock down drills. We practice these because we want to make sure that students and staff know what to do in the case of an emergency. Today we practiced a hard lock down. A hard lock down is implemented when there is an intruder in the building. During a hard lockdown drill the teachers lock the doors, turn off the lights, and the students hide quietly. We want all students and staff to be out of the view and quiet so that the intruder cannot see or hear them. A representative from the
police department, fire department, and district 186 Safety office all come over to conduct the drill with us. We did a fabulous job! The law enforcement representatives were impressed with how quietly and well hidden the students and staff were during the drill. It is reassuring to know that if there were a true emergency the students and staff would be able to react appropriately. Just a reminder--THIS WAS JUST A DRILL. There were no intruders at the school today.
