* November 8, 2011 * - permanent indian frontier (wasnt permanent) - indian kids kidnapped and forced to go to boarding schools called the carlie schools. -one way to bring indian culture to an end, was to attempt to make anglos out of them, to educate the children of the anglo( white man's) culture so that they could forget about their own. -schools were in south dokota. They were not allowed to speak their native tongues and had to wear ducts caps. -they were punished if they spoke their native languages. -their native tongues were often cut off. -they were beaten, they cut off their hair, were laughed at, and wish that they hope no one else had to go thru that. Even had to create their own language cause they "lost" their own. -natives no longer could speak cree- native language. Once returned after boarding school, they were once again around their native relatives, but only were able to speak english. -75% of native people were unemployed. -"took the children away"- -They were forced into boarding schools, and white religion. -setting took place in canada. -in 1864, there was an episode called sand creek in easten colorado near ft. lyon. the colorado

-B/w 1821 and 1836, large numbers of anglos flowed into

texas and brought slaves with them. The mexican govt

perhibated it. Reffered to as " contract laborers". The

indiviuals who owned slaves and had them work for them

for the rest of their lives.

- By march of 1836, a group of texans defeted the

mexican govt. Texas the were an independent, or a

public nation. Or The lone star state. Texas is unque

because it was a seperat nation before it even became a

state. In 1845, the political anglos, forced the natives

from their homes.

-Tejanos- mexican ppl along the rio grand for centuries.

-When the anglos are elected, they lust after the land

that are held by the tejanos.

_spanish land grants- granted land to the tejanos.

-The legilature granted laws that took the land from

them.

-the inro of slavery into texas and the implifications of

it.

-as texas then moves from the lone star into statehood

in 1836-1845, the tejanos are removed from their lands.

- its not until 1875, that texas rounds up the most feared

and fierced native people called the camanche people.

- They are then taken to ft. sil, Oklahoma.

-Mexican govt disatisfied with the boundary b/w texas

and mexico.

-Area called the disputed land.

-president polk decides to send the US military into that

land to see what will happen.

-He says "american blood has been shed on american

- statement claimed NOT true by Abe lincoln who served

one term in the house of representatives. The reason he

only served 1 term is because he stood up in the house

of congress and said it wasnt true at all. He said " Mr.

President, show us the exact spot upon which the

american blood has been shed" He was referred to as "

spotty Lincoln" because he is opposed to the war.
