Kidde has recalled more than 40 million fire extin-guishers used in homes, vehicles and boats because they can become clogged or fail to discharge during a fire.

According to Josh Harris, Texas A&M University-Tex-arkana Quality Assurance/Environmental Health and Safety Officer, the Nov. 2 recall included 134 models of push-button and plas-tic-handle extinguishers in the U.S. and Canada made from 1973 through August 15 of this year.

The fire extinguishers in Texas A&M University-Tex-arkana facilities have metal handles and are not affected by this recall.

“If you have a fire extinguish-er in your home or vehicle, please check to ensure that it does not meet the recall cri-teria,” Harris said. “If it does, owners should contact Kidde to ask for a free replacement and for instructions on how to return recalled models.”

After receiving a notice from Harris, Purchasing Buyer Viv-ian Holmes said she checked her fire extinguishers at home and found that five had been recalled.

She called Kidde customer service and was told replace-ment extinguishers would be delivered to her home within two weeks.

Kidde can be reached at (855) 271-0773 or at www.kidde.com.
