An Interpersonal Relationship is a relatively long-term association between two or more people. This association may be based on emotions such as love and liking, regular business interactions, or some other type of social commitments.

Interpersonal relationships take place in a great variety of contexts, such as family, friends, marriage, acquaintances, work, clubs, neighborhoods, and churches.

Page 5: NRES

•What is the level of Interpersonal Relationship of students?

•Is there a significant relationship between the use of Social Networking Sites and Interpersonal Relationship of the students?

Page 6: NRES

Hypothesis

There is no significant relationship between social networking sites and interpersonal relationships of the students.

REVIEW RELATED LITERATUREThis chapter contains the review of related literature of the study and the justification of the conceptual and research literature gathered from books, journals, researches and online sources.

Page 8: NRES

A social networking site is a form of social network service created to encourage social relations among people with the use of the World Wide Web. It was created to be able to connect with friends easily and more comfortably, since we are now in a generation where internet is prevalent. We have been using these sites as it is part of our social norm.

The Different faces of Social Networking Sites(Beccai, Dec 2010)

Social Networking Sites

Page 9: NRES

You are putting out information about your name, location, age, gender, and many other types of information that you may not want to let others know. Most people would say be careful, but no one can be certain at any given time. As long as people can know who you exactly are, then some can find ways to do you in.

Improving Interpersonal Relationships(www.selfgrowth.com)

When you come to the realization that interpersonal relationships are based on needs then the steps following become simple and effective. To understand what a relationship is, how to bring one about, how to enhance one, and why relationships are diminished and lost, one must understand the power of a person’s needs. The most important things in the world, to us, are the things we believe that we need. The needs affect opinions, attitudes, and viewpoints. Generally we’re more aware of unfulfilled needs than the ones that are consistently met. Fundamental life needs in particular are so commonly accepted that we usually overlook them. No one is aware of the air breathed, the ground walked on, the water drunk, and yet these are the needs we miss most when gone. The key to good interpersonal relationships is simple once you understand the role that needs play in making a relationship weak, moderate, average, or strong.

Interpersonal Relationship

Problems arising out of interpersonal relationship (http://www.homeopathsaini.com)

Interpersonal relationships are a kind of give and take and understanding each other. Whenever, any difference of opinion surfaces between two individuals or among a group of people it affects the thought process of the person. Mind being the super computer of the human body works nonstop but throwing out signals constantly in the form of speech, emotions and gestures. Problems in interpersonal relationships give rise to feelings of bitterness, anger, hate and rancour. All these kind of negative emotions imbalances the thought process and bodily reactions of the person at the same time. Wrong or inappropriate decision making forms a part of the disturbed mind which further gives rise to so many unending chain reactions in the human mind their by spoiling the whole conducive atmosphere.

Theoretical and Framework

Jean Piaget’s: Theory of Cognitive Development

Social Networks, as a form of social constructivism, have the potential to foster the interaction through which knowledge and meaning is constructed. Jean Piaget, the Gestalt philosopher in the Theory of Cognitive Development has informed educational theory for decades. Social interaction, according to Piaget, is one of the most important social tools by which students learn. Social Networks are a virtual extension of that essential social interaction. Social Networking and online learning communities are keeping the teachers and students connected in and out of the classroom. Social Networks also allow for the exchange of information and ideas do not only within the confines of a classroom, but across schools, districts, states and the world.

Data Gathering Procedure•The researchers will distribute a survey form to each section in order to determine the users of social networking sites and must be accomplished within two to three days;

•An officer of each section will be selected to distribute the questionnaires;The copies of the main questionnaire will depend on the number of the respondents. However, extra copies will be reproduced if some respondents lost their questionnaires.

•The respondents will be given one day to answer the main questionnaire;

•An officer assigned of each section will collect the questionnaires;

•After the researchers collected the survey forms, a list of the respondents which are SNS users will be organized then copies of the main questionnaire will be produced;

•Once the deadline of the questionnaires arrived, the researchers will coordinate with the officers to retrieve all the questionnaires completely;

•The questionnaires gathered will contain all the needed data for the study and it will be organized, summarized, analyzed, and interpreted.

Statistical TreatmentThe researchers used the following statistical tools to analyze the results of the survey: Frequency is the number, proportion, or percentage of items in a particular category in a set of data, while Percentage is the proportion or share in relation to a whole. f  P = ------- x 100 % NWhere:P - Percentage.f - Number of respondents falling under a particular category.N - Total number of population. _ x = ∑x

DATA PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS OF FINDINGS

The following chapter will discuss the result of the designated methodologies outlined in the previous chapter. This chapter will begin with an overview of the exceptions made to the collected data. The research questions will be addressed through the calculation of the aforementioned descriptive statistics and the provision of the discussion chapter, where they will be compared and contrasted with each other and the information presented in the review of relevant literature.

Summary

Chapter 4

Page 27: NRES

This research poses both opportunities and challenges for students and their perspective department. Because students are using channels like Facebook more intensely, they may not be engaging with the “real world” to the extent that they might have in the past. For students’ affairs, this could mean a change in tactics for engaging with their students, placing additional emphasis on outreach through social media channels to engage with their students. Institutions and department should seek to engage and connect through these channels rather than simply spouting information. If there is no two-way communication occurring, chances are that information is falling on deaf ears of students. With institutions seeking to cut cost and be more efficient than ever while maintaining effectiveness, using social media as a tool for engagement, education and development might prove to be one of the solutions to this difficult task.

Fortunately, social media appears to be where the students are, institution simply need to plug in and take advantage of all of the possibilities availed to them through this ever-evolving channels of communication.
