Since early September, 2014, Pakistan has experienced heavy monsoon and unusual flash floods which have brought havoc throughout Punjab, some parts of Sindh and AJK. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has reported losses of human lives, houses, property, crops and physical infrastructure. NRSP’s Response to Floods 2014 Having nationwide presence, NRSP has presence in all flood affected Districts of Punjab and Sindh in Pakistan and AJK with a network of grass roots level Community Organizations and a cadre of trained community volunteers/ activists. Like previously in Earthquake 2005 and Floods 2010 organization has responded to the Floods 2014 and started emergency rescue operations in worst hit affected areas. The salient features of response to the Floods 2014 are: Establishment of Emergency Response Center at Head Office in Islamabad. Likewise Regional Emergency Response Centers have also been established in Rawalakot (AJK), Jehlum, Sargodha, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, RahimYarKhan (Punjab) and Hydrabad (Sindh) Mobilization of already trained staff in disaster management Identification and mobilization of logistics e.g Vehicles, Warehouses etc NRSP Emergency Response FLOOD 2014

and AJK. The National Disaster Management

NRSP’s Response to Floods 2014

Having nationwide presence, NRSP has

presence in all flood affected Districts of

Punjab and Sindh in Pakistan and AJK with

previously in Earthquake 2005 and Floods

2010 organization has responded to the

• Mobilizing local communities through COs, VOs and LSOs

• Rapid Assessment of the flood damages through networks of COs, VOs and LSOs

• Working in close coordination with National and Provincial Disaster Management authorities, Provincial & District Governments and Line Departments

• Provision of food, water and medical support to the affected communities

Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction

Post 2005 Earthquake and 2010 Floods;

NRSP has demonstrated ability to implement

Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction

projects. As soon as the current relief phase

is over, NRSP will initiate the Recovery,

Rehabilitation and Reconstruction for which

NRSP is currently conducting damage

assessments and mobilizing donor support.

Warehouse facilities at NRSP

NRSP has a chain of warehouses that are/have been

used for emergency relief operations. The largest such

warehouse is in Sehala with a capacity of 200,000 cft

storage space. Others are in Sargodha (Punjab), Aza

Khel (KP), Turbat (Baluchistan) and Muzaffarabad (AJK).

With a unique network of stockpiling facility, NRSP has

the capacity to respond to the emergencies in any part

of Pakistan. An appropriate inventory management system and trained warehouse managers

are on board to control the in and outflow of the relief goods.
