INTERNSHIP WITH A
“HOME RUN!”
Play Ball is a Major League Baseball initiative in cooperation with the Miami Marlins and the U.S. Conference of Mayors. It’s designed to promote healthy living habits through fitness and sports. The Town of Davie has joined by encouraging the youth of Davie to participate in base-ball by giving them the opportunity to be on a real field and learn baseball fundamentals through specialized skill stations. Jason, pictured above in the orange shirt, organized this year's Play Ball event which was
held on Tiger Field at Bamford Sports Complex and featured youth ages 5-13yrs old from the Sunshine Child Care Program. Special guests for the event in-cluded Miami Marlins Youth Co-ordinator Jason Ramos (teal shirt above) and Town of Davie Councilmember Caryl Hattan and Mayor Judy Paul (western hats to the right).

NEWS AND NOTES The NSU Book Store has a new location in the University Park Plaza. Look for
them in #108. Since space is limited. The store primarily sells books. NSU gear
may be purchased at their store in the Don Taft University Center.
Do you have your 2018 Parking Decal? If not, head over to the One Stop Shop
in the Horvitz Building. Make sure you complete the application and bring a
copy of your auto registration.
Henderson Counseling Center is now located at 3440 South University Drive.
Join the Conine Golf Classic Committee for some great experience. The com-
mittee meets at Memorial Hospital Pembroke which is 4.5 miles south of the Da-
vie Campus on University Drive. We meet once a month through the end of the
year on select Friday’s from 8:30 - 10:00 AM. The first meeting is Friday, August
25th. Contact Professor Olson if interested ([email protected] or (954) 383-
1132). In addition, save the date for the 24th Annual Conine Celebrity Golf Clas-
sic which will be Monday, January 22, 2018. Many students have volunteered
over the years and have added the all day event to their resume. The tourna-
ment benefits the Conine Clubhouse at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foun-
dation. Again, contact Professor Olson who serves as the Volunteer Coordinator
and she will get you on her list of volunteers.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW? James Turner, NSU ‘13, was an intern at Roger Dean Stadi-
um in 2013. He moved on to historic Dodger Town in Vero
Beach as Assistant Athletic Director. For the last 2 1/2 years,
he has worked at Hayes Locums in Fort
Lauderdale as a Senior Consultant help-
ing staff hospitals. He is still interested
in sports but says his education at NSU
has prepared him for the world of work
and he continues to read the Sport and
Recreation Management Newsletter.
Michael Festa, NSU ‘10, is the Parks Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Doral.
Gabrielle McCue, NSU ‘17, landed a job
with the Florida Panthers. She is an Activa-
tion Specialist for Corporate Partnerships.
She reports that part of her responsibilities
is a scheduled trip to Barbados this month.

has been working with the Dolphin’s
Video Department under the direc-
tion of Mike Nobler (gray T) since
the start of summer. Recently Alex
Tabeek, NSU ’18, (far right) joined
him and they are compiling videos
from practices that coaches and
players review.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW? CAN YOU PICK OUT TWO NSU STUDENTS IN THIS
SCREEN SHOT FROM THE NFL NETWORK?
Shawn Stricker is filming the quarterbacks with a pole camera while Alex Tabeek had just arrived the
day before and was learning the “ropes” along with experiencing the excitement surrounding a new
quarterback.
