To avoid damage to the product such as chipping and cracking, ensure the surface has reached room temperature before unrolling.

WARNINGS AND IMPORTANT INFORMATIONOnce the surface has been adhered to the wall, it cannot be repositioned or re-used. Follow the installation instructions to prevent damage to the wall.

Allow the surface to rest and flatten before installation.

The surface will only properly adhere to a clean, dry wall. Follow the wall preparation instructions and ensure your wall is completely dry before installing the surface.

    PREPARATION

Prepare the wall before installing the surface

The WhisperTek surface can be installed on

    Drywall

MDF (medium density fiberboard) G1S plywood (plywood with one smooth, finished side)

    Laminated wood

Drywall, MDF and G1S plywood must be primed, painted and sealed using a durable, smooth low-gloss latex paint. Any paint or plaster must be completely dry before beginning the surface installation.

    1. Wipe down the wall with an alcohol-based cleanerUse an alcohol-based, residue-free cleaner to remove all grease, dirt and dust.

Caution: Rubbing alcohol/isopropyl alcohol can remove paint if applied directly to the wall. If you are creating your own cleaner, use a 50/50 mixture of water and alcohol.

    2. Allow the wall to dry completelyEnsure the wall is completely dry before beginning the installation process. Moisture from the cleaning solution or fresh paint and plaster will prevent the surface from adhering to the wall.

Allow the surface to rest and flatten before installation

    1. Carefully unroll the surfaceBefore you remove the surface from the packaging, ensure it has adjusted to room temperature to reduce the risk of chipping or cracking. Examine the floor and remove any debris that might scratch or dent the surface, then carefully unroll with the adhesive liner facing up.

    2. Leave the surfaces to flattenFlattening the surface makes it easier to install. Place a heavy object that won’t puncture or damage the adhesive layer onto each corner to speed up the flattening process. Allow the surfaces to flatten for an hour or two.

How do I know if the surface is ready to install?

The surface will not flatten completely, but if the edges of the surface have visibly relaxed once you remove the objects weighing it down, then the surface is ready to install.

If the edges of the surface spring back up when the objects are removed, it needs more time to flatten before installation.

    ST E P 2MEASURE AND MARK

  • Fe b r u a r y 2 0 1 7 Pa ge 8

Measure and mark the installation location

Use your system’s installation drawing to determine the centerline of your system. You can download the installation drawing from our Customer support portal (https://nureva-span.uservoice.com/).

On the wall, use a pencil to mark where the center of your surface will go as well as the two outside edges.

Measure 80” (203 cm) from the floor and mark that spot to determine the installation height. Use that mark to align your laser level.

Make marks along the laser level line for the outside edges and the system centerline. Measure from each of those marks to the floor to ensure they are all 80” (203 cm) tall.

It is likely there will be a small variation in measurement if the floor is not perfectly level. If the variation in measurements is significant, follow these steps to average out the difference:

    - Find the difference between the highest and lowest measurement - Divide the difference by two - Move the laser level either up or down by that amount to establish the new height placement

Fold down a 6” (15 cm) wide horizontal strip at the top edge of the surface to where the liner is cut in the center. Next, fold down the top inner corner on the other side of the adhesive liner.

Once the surface has been adhered to the wall, it cannot be repositioned or reused

  • Fe b r u a r y 2 0 1 7 Pa ge 1 3

While person A holds one side of the surface, person B pulls the bottom of the surface away from the wall to remove the adhesive liner. Do not bend the surface at a sharp angle as this can cause creases on the surface. Once the liner has been removed, Person A must ensure they are supporting the bottom of the surface and keeping the surface taut while Person B smoothes it against the wall.

    Remove the adhesive liner

  • Fe b r u a r y 2 0 1 7 Pa ge 1 5

Once the first half is adhered, person A pulls the surface away from the wall carefully, keeping it taut while avoiding creasing the surface in the center. Person B goes behind the surface to remove the adhesive liner from the second half of the surface.

Person A holds the outside edge of the surface while person B smoothes it against the wall starting at the center and working progressively toward the outer edge using up-and-down strokes.

Adhere the second half of the surface

Apply pressure with the roller across the entire surfaceThe bond strength of the adhesive is dependent upon the the amount of adhesive-to-surface contact. Use the roller with firm pressure. Start at one end of the surface and ensure you roll over the entire surface area as you work to the other side.
